I've recently upgraded my internet connection using vDSL. As such, my old ADSL modem definitely wasn't going to cut it.

I got a new device from my ISP, but it's really crap. It can't achieve the speed it should (not that it matters all that much - WiFi is a bit of an issue now) and it's interface is a convoluted mess.

All I need is a vDSL modem which can be used in bridge mode (so that my actual wireless router initiates and controls the connection). I was looking around local shops, and "xDSL"modems  (there were no "vDSL" modems specifically) all have RJ45 WAN ports. The device I've got is using a standard telephone WAN input.

Of course, you can plug in a telephone cable into an Ethernet port... But I want to make sure - are these xDSL modems I'm seeing actually able to make use of my telephone line or is this a different kind of tech?

When you see xDSL, it just means it supports multiple DSL technologies.

You would need to read the specifications(usually on the box or the manufacturers website) to see what they mean by xDSL.
Hopefully, it would include VDSL/VDSL2; if not the modem would not be the right one for you.
