If you got an unexpected windfall of at least £25, 000 what would you spend it on or invest it in?

#1535084 by EQDonor (Power User) at 2013-07-02 18:21:27 (3 weeks ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

£15K into savings bonds
£10K on a holiday and stuff

As a Norwegian, if I came into £25 000 that wouldn't be allot, and I would probably invest it in some kind of hedge fund, PE or venture capital, just to have the possibility of having some return on it. I am young as well, and don't really need the money now, so I can afford the risk.

If I did come into a lot of money though, say at least £100 000, I would probably invest it in property to get a steady flow of cash to supplement my normal wage. My hope is to buy enough property to be able to live of the rent and increase in value. Don't know about the timing on property in Norway now though, but right now no investment is even close to safe. Might as well buy something with real value instead of inflated shares in companies or unsecured deposits in bank accounts.

I would hire a grammar teacher who would teach me how to write and spell.

I'd like to say that I'd invest it wisely.

But mopst probably it'd go on tattoos, parties and up my nose haha

That amount I'd pre-pay next years college tuition for my girl, or maybe get mrs mb some nice jewelry and shoes.  If it were big money, buy a few thousand acres in the Rockies and go hunting every day.

Buy cars/trucks from a police auction for cheap and resale ASAP...rinse and repeat.

Buy old silver or gold jewelry on the cheap and resale when the economy improves.
A ring for $20-50 could be resold for 5-10 X's the amount.

Pay of some loans, nice vacation and something fun that i normally wouldn't spend money on. If i got a lot of money it would be invested in a house for me then the rest in real estate for comfortable money

Currently, £25, 000 = $3,9934.57 CDN
Invest in paying down mortgage on home, $10,000.
Purchase a decent, not too old, used vehicle for no greater than $10,000.
$10,000 into RRSP's and the rest, $9,934.57, would go to a local charity. Which charity... probably the local soup kitchen or battered women's shelter.

Put it on the stock market. £15k on long term stocks and £10 on high risk ones like AMD and Microsoft.
