Am trying to donate but keep getting blocked. Having problem donating and ratio low. How do I donate keep getting http://www.torrentbytes.net/donate.php was not found on this server error 404
I can't answer the question as to why it's down, but if you're hoping to donate to 'fix your ratio' don't bank on it. Torrentbytes doesn't operate a Pay2Leech system, nor does it artificially alter your ratio by giving you 'x' gigabytes towards your upload.
You get nothing in return for donating except knowing that you're helping to keep the site alive and help pay the server/hosting bills.
We did have something else for a bit but it got taken down for a while as not all could be paid on it. Looking at the thread that was 2 months ago and there was supposed to be something or other maybe in a month... Curious what the situation on this is in general now.
Situation currently seems quite catastrophic. Each step taken towards getting something put together has resulted in equal amounts of steps taken back due to various reasons.
So far the site has been funded by sheer stubbornness with some help from a few very kind individuals, but that road seems to be nearing its end. At this moment we have no way of getting the site bills paid, but we're trying to hang on to a few last straws and hopefully come out from this hole. If that does not work the site services will eventually get canceled due to unpaid bills and the site will cease to exist.
Now I'm aware about the 39 page long discussion in "the end of torrentbytes" topic. But I can't seem to recall if this option was mentioned (probably was). I've tried searching but honestly, how to use the search-option is beyond me.
Don't want to be a repetitive ass hole and suggest the same thing twenty times and force the staff to answer it sooooo many times.
But here goes: Is it not possible to switch server and evertthing on it to a new host that accepts bitcoins for example?
Anyways, a few months has gone by now and still no solution. So I guess this is it. It was nice knowing y'all!
I´m not a bitcoin expert but would it not be possible for an admin to have a bitcoin account at for example mtgox, and that everyone else donate to that account. Then you can exchange from that account and use the real money to pay the servers? I´ve read that bitcoins has become very popular in drug business because you cannot trace it..
But then you would need people to donate in Bitcoins which any would not. Also a Bitcoin may drop in value overnight. You may have enough to pay the bills 2 times over but come to bill payment date you might not have anywhere near enough.
In theory it's ok, but perhaps to volatile for the long term. Would be far better if used in conjunction with other methods but other methods are where the trouble appears to be.
Also I do not believe they want to switch hosts for various reasons, many of which I understand.
As sad as it sounds, there comes a time it seems when it's just going to become to difficult for people to keep sites like this alive with the aid of donations and I think more sites will find the same issues over the coming months/years.
Unless the sites owners want to pay for the site from their own money from their own accounts (And these things are not cheap) I don't see a solution. . . .
We're waiting for some doable way of making the money go from those shirts to the service providers?
Which has been the exact problem all along.
Switching providers would be an option if we managed to find one cheap enough offering good enough hardware/terms and "allowing" to be registered with made up details.

Ok, but i was thinking if 1415 users (32%) buy a t-shirt lest say that costs 15 € the site will have 21225 € just from the t-shirts.
What exactly is it that makes this site completely screwed in terms of the normal viable means and others, now more high profile by a long way, not get touched? Other than open registrations? And if it really is that, purely on a basis of keeping the site going maybe its time to rethink that policy?
Edit: Just to point out i know you had the classic means and they were then destroyed several times by what sounds like some nab that got banned and had a temper trantrum.

I have recently heard of that effecting a few other torrent sites, as soon as one donation method gets up someone is contacting the provider with evidence to get them shut down. It could boil down to simply someone with a grudge who was treated like a twat in the forums by some asshat staff reporting the accounts. The sites original paypal account was reported in this manner, how do i know, well it was in my name. There was also allot more too it than I decided to share. The person (s) who did report knew what they were doing and covered a few bases.
This entire situation would have been avoided if it wasn't for a few ego's.
I am pretty sure the site will survive, I just don't think the right people are dealing with it that's all.
I'm struggling to reconcile Tokol's and BoB's opinions/comments.
While I am a member of other sites, this is easily my longest membership (including predecessors..) and favourite.
Serious question guys - if the worst comes to the worst, will the site just disappear or will we have at least some notice?

That is the main thing, that i want to know. Also, if the site disappears, is there a way that members can be aware if for eg. a new site is founded?

Guys 0 to do with me. I gave up all aspects of staffing when tokol and sniper decided VBG was more important to the site. I wanted him gone they chose him, so i left. So since then 0 to do with me folks. Personally i would've funded the site for as long as needed. Shit happens though.

Which is not the way it went.
I had a post from you in my inbox you wanting vbg to be demoted right on that moment ( I guess tokol had aswell).
However I was not online when it was sent. When I then came back to online (+ 15 hours from that message) and was able to read that pm and have any input on the matter, you already had decided that you are out. Tokol was in similar situation like me, due real life working.
There never was any conversation about the matter, you had already posted in staff forums that you are out before I (and I guess tokol aswell) had anything to say.

The issue had been ongoing for some time, and had been discussed.

I am sure there will be notice given of closure if it comes to that. I don't see them just closing the doors. If people are lost for a site to go to then my site will take the entire user base to keep everyone together if there is interest. There are already plenty of members there from here already.
But.... It might not come to that yet although it looks kinda bleak
i want to help and "give it a shot".
i want to make a donation, then make it once and once again.
i don't need some extra GBs or other kind of privileges.
well. how do i make a donation?
let's choose a guy from Stuff Team, he (she) will be a bookkeaper (moneykeaper).
he (she) has an standalone paypal's (with merchant option) account (or just bank current account).
then i just pay as a custumer of that service.
for example, payment instruction: "for the site maintenance and support" or other consulting services (we can use something like "development" etc.)
then, the bookkeeper will pay the bills to host owner, provider etc.
p.s.
sorry for my english...
just want to make a donation.
paypal preferable.
why?
i can make a bank transaction using simple bank transfer via SWIFT or WesternUnion etc.
i just need all the data: bank id, reciever id, payments instruction.
i'm not a big fish... so, i don't think that the authorities, FATF or angry aliens from another dimension will trackback on me.
