It seems SWGEmu is back in the news again recently.
A lot of positive reviews floating around these days, I avoided it in the past because it wasn't complete.

I stumbled across a little FAQ here:  http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/ … n_and_how/

And it got me interested again.

Here's the full install guide:  http://www.swgemu.com/forums/content.ph … all-SWGEmu

You'll need the Empire Divided disc set, it's about 1.7 GB, you can find ISO rips in a lot of places (public trackers) to get started.  I'm installing now... Never played SWG before, this should be exciting.

Very tempted.. played from release, through NGE and then to the close.. it was a relief when things were over.

Mixed feelings on trying it again.. let us know how you get on

Holy this old thing. Jesus, I remember when it first went underground, just after combat upgrade or something. We then joked that it would be done in 2010...

Swg anyhow was the best mmo and game I ever played though, played from like month 1 to the combat upgrade. With that said, hope it work out for  you xionic

Could be useful if you're playing a crafter.

One of the fricking best MMO's ever. And, still to this day, the graphics are decent (considering the engine used is 10+ years old).

Loved the basics of mixing/matching the way you wanted to be... a medic/crafter/combat ... you could do it. Damn I miss the game (pre-nge that is)

MMO that died is best ever? Mmm nostalgia is a fond thing, shame it never lives up. Personally never played so i cant give mine, but glancing at "features" or actually anything, even wow in its current shitty for is still on for me and while i maybe still paying for that i havent logged in in maybe 4-5months lol

Dont be retarded. Swg was shut down becouse 2 very rushed and idiotic gamechanges that made most of the sub base leave (yeah people left back in those days and just didnt leave the sub on like your ass). But the biggest fact was the upcoming realese of Swtor and they didnt want any competion for the same universe  (soe/la). Swg ran for a whole 8 years and when it was released it was fucking gamechanging.

you know nothing about nostalgia...

SWG was awesome, it did things no other MMO has the balls to do. Other than UO and EVE. Anyone playing WoW or similiar really does not realise the potential of the MMO platform... tragic that such watered down experiences manage to do so incredibly well.

I did play it way back. Maybe 1.5-2 years ago, just when Suncrusher was released. It had quite a bit of everything implanted. Can't really rememeber what was missing out but I managed to get 2 characters up (1 mfencer/mdoc and 1 with mcm adn some crafting proffesion). I remember though the reason I quit was that the jedi system bugged out for some people and it was account bound, I was one of those people and i was just gutted.

If I remember right, all the proffesions where included, crafting, survuieng (spelling?), combat, pvp, jedi system ect ect.

It was alot of fun managed to get most of my old guild back and I'm sure theres alot of more stuff in game now.

played this when i was bored with WoW, played like a month and then got bored of all the open area to run to, felt even more running around like a t*at like in WoW

ofc i got hocked right away on swtor, never got that feeling with wow or swg

Since you got player buildings in the actual world in SWG you need large areas where people can put them.

#1531843 by orince (Power User) at 2013-05-23 04:22:27 (2 months ago) - [Report]Top

#1531868 by Sargoth (Power User) at 2013-05-23 07:10:39 (2 months ago) - [Report]Top

Don't recall what server I played on, but I had a TKM, smuggler, scout wookie! Which later trained squad leader. Also had a human BH.

@Chill Also didn't SOE's Star Wars license expire?

#1531870 by Xi0nicDonor (Power User) at 2013-05-23 07:15:44 (2 months ago) - [Report]Top

A lot of MMO developers sell the license for their game to multiple companies, who then run their "own version" of the game.  It's popular with Korean MMO's, some of them have like 4+ different versions of the SAME GAME being run by different companies at the same time.  Some English, Korean, Japanese, etc.

I wish the same trend were popular with western MMO's, especially dead ones.
SoE could sell the license for SWG to other companies, who would then run the game themself.

That was a feature in the game when it was released. I played it quite a bit back then and while I still think Ultima Online was the best MMO, SWG was the only one coming even close. So many others have a stale world where players cannot make any impact, in SWG you see big miningoperations, playerrun cities etc. etc.
That's what MMOs are supposed to be about, not stupid grinding and redoing the same raids over and over...

not to mention playerdriven ecnonomy and where stuff like "soul/account/character" bound items is not implented in the game at all.

Old euro-chimmaera vet here
played in [rDe] voted best rebel guild on server

no way? what guild/faction? Well it was the player/community event driven SFR (in the sunfall cantina on tatooine) awards in 2004. Tried to find the video on it, think it was recorded but to no avail

I flitted between a few

H2H
RA
Doomcraft
Resurgence

Switched to be a dirty imp at one point though
