Okie so I downloaded the entire album hoping me not liking the single was a fluke because generally I like Daft Punk's earlier stuff.

I was wrong. As someone else pointed out they have lost their trademark sound and now it just sounds like two computer geeks channelling Earth Wind and Fire.

I seriously cannot for the life of me fathom posts like the one above this. Because at least to me this is completely unlistenable  Maybe you guys missed the 70's the first time around and this is all a new sound for you but it sounds like my childhood regurgitated and modernized. I am sure many people will think it's "Brilliant" but I'd bet most of those people would think that an album of fart sounds set to digitized singing computer voices made by "Daft Punk" would be brilliant too.

just listened to the tracks and have to say i feel the same.
Didnt do it for me at all.

Before you read the rest of my post please understand this... I was... Sorry, I still am a huge fan of Daft Punk. It's very rare I can make either a playlist to listen to or playlist to DJ that doesn't include a daft punk track. I love so many of their tracks from albums, singles, movie scores etc.

So with this multi-year absense I was naturally ecstatic when I first heard rumour of their new album. Then 'Get Lucky' came out and while different to stuff they done before, I freakin loved it. I've played it to the death and I still enjoy listening to it.

And then the album leaked... Fucking hell, you can't imagine how disappointed I am. Some of the tracks I can get on board with and are growing on me. I would definitely say I really like them. But overall the entire album just sucks. It reminds me of random boring music you'd get while waiting inside an elevator. I know Daft Punk warned us before release that this album would be totally different to their previous work, but some of the tracks have no business being a Daft Punk track, it's just too out-of-character and I will never get or like them.

Tracklist with my own personal opinion/verdict. Don't quote me saying "bullshit" or calling me crazy - it's my own opinion and you won't change it. If you don't like it, I don't really care.

1. “Give Life Back to Music” (featuring Nile Rodgers)
Really like it! For me this is Daft Punk through-and-through so an intro track it instantly got me pumped and excited for the rest of the album.

2. “The Game of Love”
Errr, WTF? I liked the vocals but this is far too laid back and chilled out to get into. If I want chillout, I don't think of Daft Punk but with this track, it seems they want to change that. I just don't understand this one at all... It's so far away from all their previous work. It sounds very 80's and so flat and lifeless.

3. “Giorgio by Moroder” (featuring Giorgio Moroder)
The first 2min is Giorgio introducing himself. I don't want a DJ's intro, I WANT DAFT PUNK MUSIC! The intro feels too out of place and it just doesn't belong there. The track itself is gender confused - we get a stretch of solid jazz (not a jazz fan, bit it seemed okay) then it jumps into the same 80's chillout crap from track 2 with more of Giorgio talking bollocks through it

4. “Within” (featuring Chilly Gonzales)
I don't want to rage too hard so the less said about this track, especially this track AS A DAFT PUNK TRACK the better. It's utter rubbish - there's just nothing going on in it to hold my attention. It's far too slow, far too mellow, far too "lovey lala"

5. “Instant Crush” (featuring Julian Casablancas)
It's a goddamn 90's love song ballad with robotic vocals... But somehow, I really like it. It seems reminiscent of some of their earlier work and this ones really growing on me

6. “Lose Yourself to Dance” (featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers)
Reserving judgement. Didn't like it much at first but on the 4th playthrough, I'm starting to get into it. The backing music itself I'm not crazy about but the mix of robot voice with Pharrell's I really get and click with. It's a pretty decent mash-up

7. “Touch” (featuring Paul Williams)
Hate the vocals. Hate the lyrics. Hate the music. From the 3 & half minute mark this becomes gameshow music. Get this to hell off this Daft Punk album, it doesn't belong!

8. “Get Lucky” (featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers)
It's this albums "One More Time" and I instantly loved it from the first leak playthrough. It's a perfect blend of what Daft Punk's all about and it doesn't get much better than this.

9. “Beyond”
It's that little intro tune you get before the movie starts, then proceeds into a full blown intro that you would get before some Victorian theatre drama. And then it goes to the same rubbish in track 2 & 3

10. “Motherboard”
More rubbish with some samples and loops that feel too alien and out-of-place. Too much 'atmosphere' especially around the 4min mark that seemed pointless. Considering there's no vocals to get in the way, this music-only track could have been epic. I like from about 4:30 to about 5:05 but that's it.

11. “Fragments of Time” (featuring Todd Edwards)
No strong feelings for or against but just not for me. If I heard this track solo, before this album leaked, not a single one of you out there would EVER have guessed this was a Daft Punk track and for that very reason, I don't think it belongs. Still, it's in fitting with the overall "suck" factor of this album... God knows what Daft Punk were thinking.

12. “Doin’ It Right” (featuring Panda Bear)
Yup, quite like it. Again it's growing on me with each playthrough - has Daft Punks fingerprint but lacks a lot of style. Makes up with it thanks to a catchy beat and decent vocals though.

13. “Contact” (featuring DJ Falcon)
Track should have finished at 4:48. Really like it from start until that point and then the rubbish they buffer it out with just feels so pointless and above all, is helluva annoying. I like the track until that point but because I know it's coming, I dread it

Again I want to re-iterate that I'm a big fan of Daft Punk, and I've loved so much of their work. Since the began, they have developed a fan base and following thanks to their unique style. Most of their tracks carry that Daft Punk DNA and fingerprint that makes them so recognisable, but this album is so disappointing that it's ruined my image of them and I will never get hyped for another Daft Punk release again because of it. So many of the tracks from R.A.M lack the daft punk magic and many have no business being on a Daft Punk album. Many if you will disagree with me - that's cool. You let me have my opinion, i'll let you have yours.

Good observations from kristoficus. I agree with most of it, and specially the part where you mention the lack of "Daft Punk DNA". Tron Legacy on the other hand, which was their latest work, was really well done (tron legacy remixes was even better).

I give the disc a 6,5/10.

So I guess we should all listen to "dumbstep" right?

1. "Give life back to music" - Funk. Disco. Give life back to music. When i first heard the vocals, i thought it was too "breathy", but now i'm loving it!

2. "The Game of love" -  I hated that vocoder on the first playtrough, but it has grown on me. I love the part from 3:42 and out. Sounds beautiful.

3. "Giorgio By Moroder" - This was so new for me. I didn't quite grasp the concept when i first heard it. But now? I'm grooving so hard when the tune starts.

4. "Within" - Nah. It is still growing on me though...

5. "Instant Crush" - That chorus! It's cheesy as only french restaurants can deliver and it took me a while to like it. I've accepted it now.

6. "Lose yourself to dance"  - Yes, please! C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon! The feel! The vibe! AAAWW!!

7. "Touch" - Disney musicals? No. Just no.

8. "Get Lucky" - The radio edit is awful compared to this. But it has the vibe, it has it all. I AM LOVING IT!

9. "Beyond" - Just cut away that pokemon intro, and you have a nice tune.

10. "Motherboard" - Different, wet, dry, synthesized. It has grown on me so much.

11. "Fragments of Time" - Wait for the solo(3:07). West Coast vibe. Pure fun all the way through!

12. "Doin' it right" - One of my favorites. Loved it since the leak.

13. "Contact" - Mad. Crazy. Epic. ON A FUCKING JOOOURNEEEEYY!!!

I've listened to the album quite extensively since the 13th, and on my first few listens, i felt so angry and disappointed. It wasn't the album i expected at all. I wanted something like Discovery so bad.

But now, i've come to accept that it isn't Discovery. It will never be Discovery. But give it a chance. Let it grow on you. Appreciate the work that has gone into this album. The percussion work is so crisp on all tracks. Not feeling it? Lose yourself to dance, man! On headphones! C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'moooon!

On headphones!? You crazy person!

A good tip is to never have any high expectations because then you're never going to be disappointed. I kind of like the music, it's not very distracting so it's nice to listen to whenever I draw but if I were to sit down and just listen to music there are better alternatives (for me personally)

You gotta appreciate the stereo work on LYTD, and i have pretty decent headphones, but not a decent stereo. :/

Finally found the time to listen to this album, all i can say is... lol, What a lot of shite.

Got to track 6 and turned it off, what a dissapointment, the vox effect gets tireing and annoying after 6 tracks.

Wonder if they have as much control over things as what they make out, or wether Guy and Thomas were put under pressure from their music label to collaborate and release an album.
Ive been a fan of theirs since the 90`s, have most of their albums/singles on vinyl, but i certainly wont be adding any of these to my collection, sadly.
Hopefully they get back on track with future releases, i`m not holding my breath for another 9 years tho.

If you where  a football fan and your team is losing the game you will stop being a fan or just star to cheer for someone else ?

anyway i am a fan, and i say i like it, its not the best but its ok.

Just about to listen to it, people getting mad it doesnt sound like their old albums?. People/things evolve over time, ie VBG would of liked penis 10 years ago but that has changed now he is married to some Italian. Cars change over time, we dont have the one set type of movie etc.

It was just like me and justice, had exceptions it was going to sound like their old album so i was let down but given time it grew on me.

Already mentioned that. But as I said not all new directions/evolutions for bands works out well. I gave the example of Alternatallica's album Load

Agree with both Pengo & VBG's post there. Thing is, gradual evolution isn't all that bad but with an aggressive evolution... You gotta understand why the album's getting such a bad wrap from fans. All of their work up until their Tron score all had the 'DNA' and 'fingerprint' I've been speaking of. Most of their tracks have that dance element to it and it's easy to spot a Daft Punk track. With this new album, there's very VERY little of 'old' Daft Punk here. I wouldn't mind them taking a new direction but it's because of just how different this one is... It was a major shock to me.

And some people are mentioning how each individual track is a masterpiece in it's own right. I won't deny you of that opinion because I have no right to, but even if I disregard this as an album and just as a random compilation, I still think exactly the same of the tracks as I did before, except without the original comparisons.

Anyway, I'm off to make my own Daft Punk compilation of only their best tracks. I'll try and pretend to myself that 'Random Access Memories' wasn't this piece of junk album, but this new compilation I'm making... then i'll be happy.

Tron score was great. And this new album is pretty sweet as well, don't sound much like the old Daft Punk any of them though... still, nice music.
