Since the "Leaks" and mentions are piling up and getting ever more specific, I thought I might aswell open a thread regarding this:
http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive- … nveiled-2/
http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-orbis-unveiled/

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-ha … specs-leak
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-ha … en-console

CPUs: 8-Core from AMD, based on x64/x86-Architecture with 1.6-1.8Ghz per Core
GPUs: DirectX 11.1-based from AMD/ATI with 12 (Microsoft) and 18 (Sony) compute units and 800Mhz
RAM: 8GB DDR3 + 32MB SRAM (Microsoft) and 8GB GDDR5 (Sony)
Optical drives: Both come sporting Blu-Ray drives supporting 50GB (maybe even 100GB) disks

The Reveal will either happen at the upcoming GDC (March 2013): http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/1851 … _talks.php

Or at the latest during the E3 set for June, where all the new games are also likely to be announced, Microsoft put up a Countdown for: http://majornelson.com/2013/01/02/countdown-to-e3-2013/ and Sony made very specific mentions regarding: http://www.develop-online.net/news/4297 … -Sony-exec

All of the big hyped "AAA" games of the year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_in_video_gaming fall on Q1+Q2 2013 before June (Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, South Park: The Stick of Truth, God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgment, Metro: Last Light, Star Trek, Remember Me, The Last of Us) aside from a few of the KickStarter PC games. A bunch of new projects for Q3+Q4 2013 and beyond are likely going to be the topic at the next E3.

There was also some news regarding new Controllers, for instance that the Xbox comes with an in-built "Kinect" and the PlayStation 4 will have a redesigned controller with a "Touchpad", a little more about that in this article: http://kotaku.com/5977849/the-playstati … ecs-so-far

Also in regards to a new Account system and likely new "Digital Rights Management":

Quote:

Sony is trying to change the way you think about user accounts with the PS4. As it stands now, and this applies to all current consoles the PS3 (and the Wii U), when you log in, you log in as a single user. With Orbis, Sony is moving the place of "ownership" away from the console, with something it calls "multi-user simultaneous logins."

Which means that the PS4 will let more than one person be logged into the same system at the same time. It achieves this by linking control pads to user accounts; as each new controller syncs with the system, that player's account can be logged in as well. Accounts won't be "locked" to a controller; you'll simply be prompted to sign in to an account every time an extra pad is connected to the console.

One application we learned about for this feature would be that, were four players in a co-op battle able to defeat a boss, then all four would receive trophies.

We only learned of this feature in relation to local accounts stored on the console itself. It's unclear whether you'd also be able to do this via the PlayStation Network if you were playing online.

Really looking forward to the new gen especially the xbox.

They seem to be looking at new ways to play as well as power.
I hope this will make it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsxXnSztPoI
Also like the augmented reality glasses idea

Im sure i will end up not being able to resist getting the new sony console at launch as well.........my wifes going to well pissed off.

Just hope the developers have the balls to make real use of the extra power and dont just delevope call of duty 15 with higher polygons and nice fx

edit - and if either decide to impliment the one game per customer tech then they can both piss up a rope.
(aka you cannot buy or sell second hand games, once you buy it its yours and its not worth a penny to anyone else/

The only interest I personally have in them is that they won't hold back PC gaming quite as much and we'll get better games (and based on DX11). Other than that all interest is purely "academic".

I'm looking forward to the Oculus Rift a lot more than any Next-Gen console

Edit: I'm pretty sure they both will have some form of selective per-user DRM that specific publishers at least can employ, similar to how Steam works.
They would have to be extremely stupid from a business-perspective to not at least keep that door wide open, since neither the publishers nor platform owners (royalties) get any money from sales that GameStop and similar shops make.

good point, lets face it todays pc hardware is already capable of producing what we will see in the next gen consoles.
The current consoles have no doubt crippled the true potential of the pc.
However you can see why, i mean why piss about creating new games from scratch when they can churn out shit call of duty with little development time - less time = less money outlay.
It will be a case of de ja vue in several years

This!

We already have next-gen consoles. It's a big box that sits under our desk. I play most of my games with a ps3 controller on the PC (unless it's an FPS/MMO and unless the game is a terrible port).

The only reason to ever buy consoles is for console specific games. Other than that it's just waste of money for an inferior machine.

Yes you play them with a console pad, but what we are saying is the pc could produce so much more than you will find in todays games

And yes the only reason to buy a console is for those specific games to which there are many

Did you just confirm what I said? Because thats exactly what I said. They wont hold back the PC. I even quoted dexter saying it.

sorry i was not clear, reading it back your right it looks daft:lol:

No what i was meaning was the fact consoles in general have held back the pc in terms of letting developers create new games and ideas.
Yes you may have a machine capable of next gen graphics but it aint going to happen until you see the new gen consoles. Then after that its a long wait
They come along once in 5 years or so.................

edit - You cray?
whats that like

Also of note:

“The origin of the term “Cray” from the “Niggas In Paris” single is actually not a shortened form of “crazy”, nor is it “cray”, It’s actually “Kray. It’s in reference to the schizophrenic twins Ronald and Reginald Kray… The Kray twins who were the crime lords of London in the 50’s and 60’s… The police failed to locate them on numerous occasions, which is where the line “Ball so hard, muhhfuckas wanna find me, that shit Kray…” comes from.”

Xbox 360 has this feature in almost the same way since launch =)

The PS3 has done everything I could ask of it and more so I'd probably stick to Sony. Stats honestly mean jack to me when it comes to consoles as most of the first generation games are mostly graphic show off games.

Either way, I would not get it till a year or two later when the prices come down

BDA decides on who uses the blu ray technology. I don't no if this means royalties will go to sony etc... but sony doesn't own blu ray. (i could be totally wrong buts that's what i thought)

Actually the rights are owned by many companys including Sony, Apple, Panasonic, Samsung, Dell, Hitachi and so on. All but Microsoft.

I'm not saying next-gen xbox isnt gonna have it, they just don't have any association with Blu-Ray. And who cares, it's disk space...

Nothing to do with disk space... The ability to play blu ray movies on the next xbox is a must. That's something Sony done right with the ps3 add this feature to the next xbox then its a win win situation for xbox users.

Just yesterday i was playing DMC on pc with a xbox controller the graphics are the same as the xbox ...... massive fail in my opinion

If you are not happy with playing console ports on PC then buy a console or just be happy with what you have. Nextgen consoles might make things alot better for PC users when it comes to ports but i don't see the big deal myself as you pick what to buy and what system to play it on.
