First world problem: CPU is so fast is makes Sleeping Dogs run "too quickly".
Ah you youngsters have no idea of the problems games had with timing in the 286 era. Upgrading to a 386 made some games run so fast they were impossible to win.
DL'd the update and, lo' behold, the game worked flawless for me, no stutter, smooth cameras, daylight and all... for about ten minutes. After that i got the same problems as before, awful stuttering/FPS dropping like mad. Tried a lot of suggested workarounds from the official forums, nothing works. Not too mad, since i arrived at the second mission that involves gunplay ("The Wedding") and it is just awful, really, really awful. I am quite saddened by this since i had a lot fun with this game up till now, even had me playing with all the graphic issues before, and it was tormenting at times.
It seems that update from v1.4 to 1.5 weights 23 MB.... if it is true, Skidrow have made some mistake...
Are the HD Textures included in the original release?
It's a separate download on steam and the size would fit ... someone playing the original release should say if it's possible to enable the high res textures in the options before applying the latest patch.

What are your system specs?
I played through the P2P release, 1.4 with HD textres without any issues. Installed the 1.5 23mb delta update patch today, only checked if it ran, and finished a side mission so far.
If you run Gerforce cards in SLI there is a SLI fix.
Remove any current Sleeping Dogs profiles if you've created a custom one to force SLI via nvidia control panel.
Now export your current profile with Nvidia 3D Settings Profile Manager then edit the exported text file, copy n paste the quoted text(to where ever it goes alphabeticly), save then import the edited profile.
Finished. Not bad. Nothing spectacular in terms of gameplay but fun enough. If repetitive and annoying at times. Good story, just like watching an asian crime flick. Also Old Salty Crab.
Apparently the guys who made/distributed/whatever this game gave some cash to some other guy and he made this. Neat.
Anyone that actually managed to patch their game to 1.5, and still have HD textures, if you'd be so nice please PM me the exact releases and patches you used, method you used, etc
Been scouring through comments and some seem to have made it work, for others not at all. I'm currently using the vanis(k?) release, since the skidrow one apparently doesn't have hd textures.

I haven't actually tried patching it yet, since i deleted the install files >_> But i guess i'll give it a go and see what happens, could just back up the folder i guess. Will probably end with it fucked up anyways but xD
So first try ended with me not being able to use hd textures, trying again now.
@sargoth, just says "needs hd texture dlc"
Although, which patch did you use? I use the small 1.5 one, are you using the 7gb skidfail one? Might have to give that a go then if this doesn't work yet again.
Nope.. no hd textures. Works with 1.4, after i apply 1.5 i can't enable them anymore. Trying to force it via the xml settings file and read only doesn't seem to work either.
Well, i gave up on that for the moment and decided to DL an repacked release with 1.5 and "12 dlcs" so we'll see xD At least according to a number of comments it works.
Everything works great now! 1.5, hd textures, etc. Release i used is "Sleeping Dogs.v 1.5 + 12 DLC (New Disk) (RUS, ENG, Multi7 \ ENG, CHN)(updated on 01.09.2012) [Repack] by Fenixx"
Played through this and can say that on the whole I probably liked it better than GTA IV, especially since it did a bunch of things in a new way or took certain elements that worked from other games, for instance the melee system being similar to the Batman: Arkham game series.
The most negative thing about it is probably all the stuff (and characters) in the game where they by all accounts probably wanted to do something more with it, but likely ran out of time and budget... for instance a bunch of the mini-games like the "drug busts", a bunch of characters like all the female acquaintances and a bunch of missions that either don't flow very well or didn't seem finished.
