I understand many people here are PC gamers exclusively, so please try and open up your mind a little and see how this can change the gaming market rather than your own gaming habbits.
Ouya is an Android-driven console that's been put on Kickstarter. I have backed it with $150 which will get me the console, 2 controllers and international shipping. That works out about £96 and it seems that you are easily getting your money worth with this one. They seem like they know what they are doing and they have already garnered a lot of interest of game developers already.
On my 360 & PS3 I love the minis & arcade games on it, but it lacks imho in AAA titles - some of the most fun "arcade" and casual games are born on iPhone / Android so having a console to fill that gap seems like a good idea.
Just wish the spec was beefier.. im sure they could have put a small gpu in there.. but I guess that would bump the price

Yeah I've seen a lot about this. If this is a success I'll be very surprised. Hope I'm wrong though.

This seems to be worth the price just for twitch.tv alone.. Yeah I know I can drag a cable through the whole house and just connect the tv to my PC but.. it's not convenient at all. Also you should be able to run all emulators on it like NES, SNES etc. All old consoles in 1 with a good controller seems totally worth it aswell.
Will definitely have my eyes open for this one.

Well I've built a budget PC for not much more. Really I don't think this console makes that much sense but the service they're providing will I assume run on other Tegra 3 devices so if I get a Tegra 3 phone or tablet with HDMI out is there any reason I can't just connect a controller and join in?
1. Android based console. Everyone knows games on cell phones is far from optimized. There are some titles that looks great on iPhone but the games runs so bad and the gameplay is often so basic there is hardly any gameplay at all.
Just look at Infinity Blade. Game looks great, low fps like crazy and it just swipe and watch movie type of game.
2. Crappy hardware. Tegra 3 is a crappy chip. Does not help that it is hard to optimize the code for Tegra chipset. So we can't expect games that looks better or even on par with Infinity Blade. So to get the frames per second high enough to compete with consoles like Playstation and Playstation 2 the graphics has to be turned down so much they are probably going to slightly better than PS1 but worse than PS2.
3. No tripple A game developers. So far not a single good game has been released for the phones. We have shit like angry birds that is just a rip-off from older games back in mid 80s. Do we really want to play all those mini-games on a big screen tv? Is it not enough that we have them in collections of hundreds on cheap discs for PC from your local games store for only €1?
Conclusion: Do we really want to buy a console that is several years behind in development just to play shit like angry birds?
Why not buy a used PS2 and play games that looks better and has LOTS of better titles?
This shit is going to bomb hard.

Some major non-believers here... So it's being marketed as a games console, but if you can use it as a multimedia machine like the WDTV or AC.Ryan, and install Android apps doesn't that somewhat redeem itself?

I agree mostly. But not the part about games optimized for Tegra 3 looking good. They still seem to run like shit.

Well both yes and no. Gaming on it will be better than on phone because of your gamepad. And the ability to play movies easily like media station will be better than both PS3 and xbox.
So yeah it is not all that bad if you are looking for a cheap media station. Might get one for my parents!
I backed it. Not so much for the gaming aspect, but as a media and information hub.
My only misgiving is, that by the time it comes out in March 2013, Android 4.0 will be way out of date. I can only hope they'll keep updating their OS version as they go along, so that then it's released, it at least ships with whatever version of Android is current.

The thing that really makes me wonder about this thing is won't it be out of date pretty quickly?
Android version aside, what about hardware. The Tegra 4 is coming in Q1 of 2013 so by it's release it will kinda be outdated. What am I missing here, won't that matter?
I cannot see this succeeding personally, but good luck to them!
For me the only way i can see a use is for my son and children in general, adults will soon see the limitations of the hardware for the solution it is being sold as.
As a media solution it could be a cheap alternative, maybe one to keep an eye out on.

Well Tegra 3 chipset was out of date aprox 9 months before it was released. Only the hype from Nvidia that kept it alive.
In terms of performance it is better than most phones but there are some dual core ones that is better and has been out MONTHS before the Tegra 3 was released.
For an example if you compare the Tegra 3 with PVR from iPhone 4s the 4s wins with out breaking a sweat. Then if you compare the PVR from PS Vita with the PVR from Ipad 3 there is aprox 4 times difference in memory -> Cpu bandwidth.
So in other words for gaming a handheld Sony device has more than twice the power than a Tegra 3 console that is not even released.
Buy a modded Xbox with 80gb HDD and you have the best emulator console ever with the original xbox library. And what comes to mediaplayers there are more than a few good systems around with native 1080p playback for way less than $100. Android is a mobile system and I really can't see any future for Ouya, I feel sorry for those who jumped in to the bandwagon and gave their hard earned money to these scammers

They obviously have money to waste and few braincells in how to spend it. However it could be a modern collectable, shit that fail miserably tend to be collectable eg. Sinclair C5
I can see great potential for this. I know myself there are games on my iphone id love to play on a bigger screen.
The streaming would be awesome as the device is cheap. Anyone can code to it legally so im sure some of the more serious coders would toy with it and then there would be a comp to make the best code as they want to be number one.
So, does anyone have this system yet? Games for it? Anything to report to the great unwashed that haven't got their hands on one?
I have it but I don't have anything good to say about it so if I were you I would wait a while before getting one.
First thing is that the performance on the system is pretty bad. There are some games that looks a bit better than PS2 graphics and some games having image enchancing effects giving the impression games looks better than on PS3. BUT the framerate is very poor often and you get some massive fps drops.
The overall quality of the games is that of a cellphone. So you might find one game that will last about 5 minutes before it becomes very repetitive and disturbingly boring.
Since they are using the Ouya store and not google playstore the number of games is very limited.
There is a massive latency on the controller to the console. If you are a gamer that has played quite a few games with controller you will notice this latency pretty badly while others that never play games won't notice it at all. My guess is that there is something between 50-150ms latency on the controller.
So as a gaming machine you can't go much lower than this.
BUT I'm looking forward to when XBMC gets released for it and if it will be possible to build a decent mediabox out of it connected to a NAS with movies and similar. Time will tell.
