Updated most/all of the icons (scroll up) - generally simplified and subcategory icons enlarged. I'm not too sure about XXX/web with the exposed midriff. It seems very... vulgar
Comments/critiques are appreciated. This thread is quiet.
A suggestion to allow an easy transition between the old icon and new ones could be to keep the new colours very similar to the old ones.
Taking for example the mock up made above by tengen, current red icons at the moment are the pc games category. But on tengen's new set a Red icon now means movies/xvid, i'm sure people could get used to it but it would take a little time.
current tby icons are just right, maybe smooth their border and make it blue like the website's center/background border, but that's about it
This is what I've been going for, I have done 4 here, i know its not a lot but i have actually spent along time on these lol. Am trying to keep the original colour but yet keep the logo simple and clean. Let me know what you think before i do more.
Well i for 1 had to read "xvid" or "hd" on these 2 icons because there exactly the same and almost identical colours
So i fail to see the different? On the site i cant tell the different without reading it
Could change the colour to something completely different on 1 of them but then you would get people maybe saying its not the same colour so they don't like it.
Edit,... No comments in 21 hours lol. Anyhow, mine almost done now.

I like the idea that users could switch back to the old icons.
In my view there is nothing wrong with them? I can clearly see the differences quickly. Maybe that is because I'm a long term Tb user.
The new icons should be a quick look to check what kind of release it is. What it all comes down to is that people apparently can't be bothered to read the torrent-name.
One more tip for the designers out there. I can remember a discussion about the xbox icons being blue and ps3 being green. I would use the marketing colours for the icons of a specific genre. So yes.. Xbox being green, Ps3 being blue. Blueray releases blue. XxX rated pink...
This competition is a great idea and I look forward to the changes. Although, I'm sorry if I'm stepping on some people's feelings with the following but all the images as of now that are still available aren't really good.
Too many different colors will make TB look childish and confusing and that weird text is indeed annoying.
As a reminder you may have forgotten (since you're probably doing it yourself), most of us will take a subconscious look at the image and a quick reading of the torrent's text will tell the rest of the story. We're usually looking for something or a specific kind of torrent.
Icons don't need to be individually very different from one another, color identifiers for categories are also a must... please no sub-color categories lol

What do you mean with sub-color categories? There are 33 categories, but you'd like movies as one categories for instance, tv another? As for sawgspawn's contribution? I really like his work, though I find the color codes confusing. If I want a 720 TV torrent, I'd have to read the category sideways (why I put my text vertical) because the icon is the same for every type of TV 'cept for packs. Please clarify
In my contribution I tried to work with consistent colors. IMO that would be that every pack no matter the category is one color, everything in HD is another color and then the icon itself explains what category it is. I've also tried to keep as many colors as possible close to those that are now, such as x264 is green, xvid is blue, PC is red etc. Though I've tried to color code some other types of categories such as DVDr are all orange no matter the category, same with packs.
Personally I look at the color to recognize if it's a x264 or DVDrip. Maybe that's just me.
*Edit*
Hmm, I wasn't quiet honest about my color codes. It appears that Anime for instance are all red to fit my idea about the japanese flag, as for some other categories Anyway, I'm posting my entry.

@sawgspawn: They look nice! Wouldn't mind those at all, and would be easy to get use to.
Some people were wondering about scene and non scene. An idea is all symbols stay the same for either or else that would be way to many symbols. All scene releases continue to have black text naming the torrent, but non scene text is TB blue. I believe it would be very easy to distinguish while scrolling through.
