This was the only site still using the classic icons. I'm sure as hell gonna miss that.

I like the icons. On most other sites I'm just confused and annoyed with how ugly and unfamiliar their icons are. Wonder why the competition is needed, haven't seen anything about in the forums.
call me nostalgic as well but i gotta agree being one of the very few still using these has it's charm.

I might submit something similar. At the moment there's too many similarities between some categories, as well as some problems with the composition. As I said, those were just a quick effort; I'll definitely be contributing an icon set or two for the final judgement.
Well, there is always the posibility that it could be a choice in the profile settings what icon-pack should be used. Or someone could easily create a greasemonkey script or browserspecific plugins that replaces the new icons with the old. A little change is good!

Unlike you guys i am looking forward to see some of the entries. It is time to change. I know people are resistance to change by nature but this will be good. Take the new site layout for example, it turned out great!
Plus, we have some very talented people in the site!
Bit annoying to see people going on about some perceived negativity.
People aren't "always" against change. Actually people are quite rational when it comes to change, determining the pros and cons before deciding if change is necessary and/or worth it. In fact, I've seen quite a few reasons here why people don't want the icons to change, yet not a single reason to change them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the entries. Just not so confident about the outcome, since the current icons are very well made and have historical value that will not easily be replaced.
personally i think the original icons look good, but so does SmackSmash's icons.
I'm wondering if this is worth continuing tho?

PS, the last two icons does not match the torrent (if anyone was wondering).
If there are going to be new icons I aim to make sure that they are more easily recognisible than the originals - seeing as this is their main purpose. I've divided the categories into groups and assigned each group a primary/secondary color as follows;
ORANGE - Anime
YELLOW - Apps
GREEN - Games
RED - Movies
PURPLE - Music
BLUE - TV
GREY - XXX
Packs and Non-scene will have a banner or something as you can see in the screenshot.
This makes it very easy to identify a particular category quickly. Once that is done, each format within a particular category is identified by the shade of the categories colour in which it appears. For example x264 would be a dark shade, and xvid would be a lighter shade. Look, it's easier to show you;
