Rounding up and detaining political opposition is frighteningly naziesque.

yeah this entire thing is very troubling. The guy did win an open election where I dont recall accusations of fraud and the people passed that constitution, but you get enough loud mouth protestors in the street and suddenly that all goes out the window?

The people running the current government are all assholes ripping off the tax payers and unlike the rest of the world the past few decades...they threw them out of office FAST.

Learn from them.

They just don't really understand the concept of democracy and learning to live with election results.

If he was really doing anything criminal, they should have set their country up to be able to impeach the man, but they didn't..

Now they are going to start all over again.  Egypt 3.0

Pretty much this.  ^^^

It's not a matter of "feeling Bad" for anybody, but Brown Shirt tactics like storming media outlets and grabbing up and detaining duly elected politicians makes them just as bad as those they oppose. Civilized people settle grievances in a civilized manner, not through mob mentality and gang rapes.

To "settle grievances in a civilized manner" with hard-core Islamist is a bit difficult.I don`t think anybody need another Iran look alike country so close to Europe.Or maybe I`m wrong because someone is supplying the religious nut-jobs from Syria with weapons..

They were Islamist before they were elected and people voted for them on that account in a free and open election. The west cant keep telling these countries that democracy is the way to go and than turn around and criticize them when they dont elect liberal secular governments. That said the more I read about this the more it seems like this has nothing to do with any of that and more to do with Morsi ruffling the military's features with his reaching out to (Shiite) Iran and these demonstrations were just a convenient excuse to throw him out.

Wasn't there like 20 candidates or something stupid like that?  Too many candidates = largest minority faction winning the election.  <- there is probably an Obama joke in there somewhere.

I honestly don't think they are ready for a President.  Maybe a Quorum is more their speed right now.

I am gonna laugh my ass off when the Brotherhood wins the Presidency again, if they opt for such an option.

Kicking out an Islamist....I see nothing wrong with that. It`s also a kind of an warning (a wake up call) for Erdogan.

IMO the only  way for a sort of democracy for an Muslim country is kemalism that mean:

Republicanism
Nationalism
Populism
Secularism
Statism
Revolutionism

With military acting as the guardian of Kemalist ideology, the official state ideology, especially of the secular aspects of Kemalism. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Armed_Forces)

...all this sounds and looks a bit strange for a a "classical" western democracy ,but for Muslim world it works.

.

the problem is the majority in that country are Islamist who voted for an Islamist and whose Islamist leader was legitimized by king Obama and his administration. That is why a silly demonstration with a hundred thousand loud mouths is a ridiculous reason to overthrow a fairly elected government, the Islamist majority now is going to brutalize those people and the military is going to be helpless to stop it. The minority are about to find out why you use elections to change governments in a democracy and not coups.

I don't live in the local, don't believe much of anything in the news and about half of what I think I see...but it is said many who voted him in wanted him out and 20% of the population held protests.

Story is that one minority that voted for him wanted him out because he had not attacked Israel.

Like the guy who pointed out...20 minorities running for office and the largest one wins the most votes.
A pure democracy is a path to ruin.

There was never any democracy in the ME. Leave it to the American administration to think they can create democratic governments overnight. The European and US democracies took hundreds of years to form. Only governments can be destroyed over night. Good things take a long time to create. As for Egypt, Morsi never had the support of the military. Mubarak did which is why he was able to hold power for so long. Furthermore he gave a minimum of support for religious minorities. Something Morsi has not done, because he is an islamist. The Egyptians are not united around a common cause that will provide them with stability and this will end in civil war, is my guess.

Looking at it like this I think we will have another Syria on our hands pretty soon.
