How many people have seen the trailer? I am looking forward to this tv series..now that many other cool sci-fi tv shows have been cancelled..do you think this one has a chance?
steven spielberg is a good director.. it will premiere in 2 weeks..with a full 2 hour episode
because of spielbergs reputation..the tv show will premiere in tv channels across europe and latin america less than a week after the U.S. premiere..
I just hope they dont mess around and just get right into it. These shows have a real problem where they always try to drag everything out causing people to bail before it starts getting good.

Gotta agree here, seems like the days of long story lines, with deep character build ups are all but gone (there are a few exceptions) Show need to hit the ground running or they are gone, even shows that do are still cancelled nowadays!

If the ricefarmers of vietcong can outsmart, outwit and kill the technically superior americans I don't see why the technical inferior rednecks shouldn't be able to do the same to aliens. All about using the hometurf.

Let's not be silly here it's no where near the same as Vietnam. The technological advances needed for interstellar travel let alone intergalactic travel would mean that they're so technologically advanced that their tech would probably look like magic to us, that's assuming they didn't just come from Mars.
If they're advanced enough to make it here from another Star Sytem then how do you even begin to explain how it's plausible for us to mount any defence, think about how far away we are from even making it to Mars.
Anyway who knows I guess the writers could deal with these issues in Stargate we stole, retrofitted, adopted and traded alien tech so it could work out if we somehow begin to understand how to outwit them I hope they do sort it cause it'll seem ridiculous to a lot of us otherwise.
We're aliens to them as well on an alien world so maybe their tech aint well adjusted to that. And maybe it took them a billion years to reach spacetravelling, so they're not that adaptable. Guerilla warfare is guerilla warfare, you don't have to be technically superior to win.
I have no idea what the premise of the show is though, haven't seen any trailers or clips or read anything. Just saying that unless they're going to blow the entire planet to smithereens and wants to kill every human alive, there's plenty of plausible ways for humanity to fight back.

Your placing way too much faith in Guerilla warfare. Guerilla warfare isn't really gonna overcome this kinda level of massively advanced tech, a simple scan of earth's topography from orbit and devices for tracking lifeforms or movement and it should really be over in a matter of minutes, assuming they're capable of this.
Sure we don't know how adaptable they are but even if they couldn't master interstellar travel and they've been travelling for billions of years in multi-generational ships we're still talking about a race so far beyond us we shouldn't stand a chance. If they're intent on invasion I'd also assume they've prepared themselves for annihilating most forms of resistance, they have weapons and can probably defend themselves.
I'm no longer buying this idea that Energy weapons face off against our projectile weapons, that's old fashioned sci-fi bollocks that no longer sits well with me. I agree that there are interesting & plausible ways we can face off against them but not some rag tag group of civilians with no real tech somehow managing to not only survive but fight back, no sir I don't like the sound of that.
Guess a more fair comparison would be when America got populated by Europeans.

We think of it in vastly different terms cause I see it as say WW2 Allied Forces vs Whatever Armies we have in about 2000+ years.
I can't get my head past how much of a difference there is between a medieval Army vs one with missiles, guns and planes and to me at least the distance in technological advancement between us and a proper space fairing race is far beyond that.
Plus this show doesn't seem to be about us at our very best, from the looks of it, it's these small groups trying to survive. In these circumstances are they really gonna fight back?
I read one post that said how interesting it would be if this wasn't so much humanity fighting back and really succeeding but it's last hurrah before the end. I kinda like the sound of that. Imagine as the series progresses we witness the mounting losses and hope ebbing away as we watch the last of humanity crushed by Alien invaders, maybe take the bastards down with us.
It would be incredibly brave if they went that way but I doubt they will cause man that would be bleak.
Once any warfare hits the ground level it becomes much more about tactics than weaponry. Sure at first it will be one sided, but its only a matter of time before the less advanced side acquires the other sides advanced weaponry and it starts to even out. That said short of needing a human slave force I would figure any alien invasion would first start with some sort of advanced biological weapon that annihilates us before they even place one tentacle on the ground.
Yeah, they probably could just obliterate us from orbit, and then move in and occupy the vacant earth. Short of needing slaves or us as food, or break us down into bio liquified goo for use in various processes, I don't see why they wouldn't.
You are projecting human qualities onto aliens. Or perhaps human technology development patterns. Who's to say they won't be tiny ethereal amoebas flying in watery bowls of light incapable of doing serious harm to us. I bet they will be all like 'well shit' after their flotilla of doom realizes they will just get blown away like dandelion seeds. Now wouldn't that be awesome.

Well if we're talking about real life yeah I suppose we have to take into account that Aliens could potentially be so different from us that even though they're so advanced they may not be able to sufficiently understand us to properly fight us, not that I really buy that though we're pretty easy to kill.
In this series they're shown to be advanced, they have ships that can fly through our atmosphere that don't appear to be aerodynamic, they have energy weapons and I'm assuming that they must have shielding in order to fly through space.
Plus any race that invades us has probably planned it, hell they may even be professional invaders and when the series starts they've already wiped out the majority of humanity. I think they may be keeping some of alive for a reason as I've just seen a preview where one cast member said 'they came for the children' so that kinda make sense cause given all that we really should be wiped out pretty easily.
I guess we'll see how well or badly they deal with the implausibility of humanity fighting back.
Well as I said back when the thread was started I'm looking forward to every scifi show, this one included, but I still stand by my prediction that it's going to suck. When is it supposed to air anyway?
