It means because sony had pretty naff security where it actually mattered we can sign our own stuff so the ps3 will always think its legit sony firmwares or whatever with no exploits or hacks getting in the way of anything.

This is what's so good about it and future proof, it will take a hardware revision to block this and they simply cant revoke the private key now so anyone with a current hardware revision and that is about 60 million ps3`s in the wild can utilise this.

This is possibly the biggest thing to happen in the console hacking world ever.

I agree.. there was once a point I thought ps3 would never get hacked lol and now it turns out it gets the best hack ever.

Is it worth stocking up on games now ?

Or are we likely to see another flood of games coming through once we have news of the new hacks ?

If we are able to sign our own code it seems likely we will get full untouched discs ? And since the JB stuff has been altered or stripped in some way... (I might be wrong ?) then these games may not work as they should ?

One of the other things I am REALLY looking forward to is the possibilty to be able to use my PS3 as a proper media centre and streem .MKV files direct from my main PC which I can them move into an upstairs bedroom.

To me that would make my PS3 worth it's weight in gold !

The PSP master key has been found inside the PS3 as well. Not that anyone cares about the PSP anymore but still.

Also a custom firmware has been released that allows PSN access again, however doesn't work with the backup managers etc so can only play games off the disc. No time at all until that changes again though

So,should I buy a secondhand PS3 now? I'm worried the prices will shoot up and the availability of used units will go down once everyone knows about this.

The PS3 will make an awesome media center. Gawd, I hate Sony since they took away the "other os" feature. Pissed me off that they disabled something I paid extra for.

KaKaRoTo said he has no intentions of building in backup support in his CFW so far all you can do with that Firmware is install homebrew that is properly signed with the new 3.55 license (so for none of the aps are). However given that the ps3 security has been walked all over since the release of the root key, it wont be long until someone enables back up support and signs the 3.55 license on backup manager then we should be good from there on.

I'm in no rush to play any ps3 games so I will wait until they disable the blue ray check so the ps3 will read / write straight from hard drive. Then I will pick up a ps3 with a broken blue ray for $20 and enjoy some of the exclusive ps3 titles.

The 3.5 firmware eboot's have been signed for 3.41 firmware now, so GT5 etc is playable

Do we know if the non-USB hacks will allow online play on "backup" games? Do you need to have the latest firmware to be able to play online?

If it allows online play, I'll be getting myself a ps3 as I rarely play solo games!

Confirmed working with Hermes 4b with 3.50 spoof on a P3Go Dongle on both a phat and a slim ps3 on 3.41.

alonso, any answers to that would be guessing right now I think.

I would say probably not however with what's happening at the moment you never know, we might just get psn access in the end.

If we can sign our own stuff then I don't see how Sony could stop online play ? I am hoping to be able to play online with it, or at least have the option of playing originals online and copies offline but easily swapping between the two.

Typical aint it? We can't play copied games on the PS3 and as soon as it looks like we'll be able to people want online MP too

Personally I can live without MP if I can play the games I want ,if I need MP I'll do what I do with PC games and buy the originals that I want to play online.
