It does require a lot of work afaik. Tried to downgrade, I get error code that file is curropted 8002f157. Rebooted the ps3, now it keeps going into recovery mode and when I try to update to anything, all I get is "Checking....Please wait." Looks like the loading indicator on top right freeze-and-go? Nothing else seems to happen. Is it safe to assume, it's fucked pretty much? I tried to put the old hdd back in, same thing, eventhough it's not formated and everything is same as before I took it out. Yes you're right, it still currently requires a hardware flasher to get an OFW 3.56 - 4.31 PS3 to any custom firmware. The best option is to find someone to downgrade for you, locally if possible so you don't have to fork out for 2 courier trips. BTW, I don't recommend connecting to PSN (or allowing the PS3 an internet connection) on custom firmware period.
