Couple questions for you PS3 guys

1) what dongles have people used? (links would be greatly appreciated!)
2) can you play online with your downloaded/"backed up" games?
3) any cases of ps3s being banned (like the xbox360s)?

thanks a lot guys

Mine has still not arrived but I went with the P3go as its specs are above any other dongle on the market and its open source (most other dongles are too to be fair)..

No, no online player, pretty sure even with spoofed 3.55 payload online still does not work

No, fairly sure no one has actually been banned yet as sony just keep blocking online play for those without the latest firmware and of course jailbreakers cant have the latest firmware yet and have to have older or spoofed firmware.

Okay, so I figured backups/copies wouldnt work online. At one point the JB firmware matched the one Sony was signing for consoles - when the two firmware versions match, do original games still work online? Just in case there's ever a clever hacker that can 'spoof' the current FW version to Sony servers even though it's running 3.5 or w/e.

Well at the moment the latest firmware is 3.55 and we don't have a hack for 3.50 yet and I am pretty sure you have to have 3.55 (not spoofed) to play online.

I don't think originals will work online at the moment no matter what we do, don't think we can downgrade from 3.55 yet otherwise you could just update to 3.55 to play retail games online then downgrade to 3.41 afterwords to jailbreak your ps3 again.

Apparently there are new ps3 exploits being unveiled at a hacker conference that's happening shortly and I think most people are hoping for a 3.55 hack but this is one of those wait and see situations.

not sure exactly what this means to the average user but posting it anyway.

my brother's got a ps3 today and its 3.42, i can do the update to 3.5 manually right?

#1363152 by kristoficusDonor (The crust on a pizza) at 2010-12-25 16:03:42 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

So, my PS3 has arrived and it has 3.41 on it - I believe this is jailbreakable, right?

Now, my dilemma is I have GT5 sitting right here and i'm itching to play it. If I jailbreak, is there a GT5 'backup' out there that I can play (offline of course) on the 3.41 jailbreak without updating to 3.5? Or is 3.5 100% necessary to play it?

#1363157 by unknown[9089] at 2010-12-25 16:35:34 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I am a little drunk so bear with me

I think GT5 requires 3.50, not the latest 3.55 firmware and I do know that you can downgrade from 3.50 pretty easily to 3.41 in order to jailbreak and run backups.

However downgrading seams to be disabling bluray playback on allot of consoles.

I assume yours is a slim though as its new and I think you would be fine with downgrading.

So with that in mind and assuming your ps3 will not lose bluray functionality after a downgrade I believe you should be able to put GT5 in your ps3, upgrade firmware to 3.50 from the disk (not online as you will get 3.55) and when you want to jailbreak your ps3 to play pre 3.50 backups and/or homebrew you simply downgrade to 3.41 (its very easy to do !) and when you want to play GT5 you just let it update via the disk to 350, rinse and repeat when needed.

But please, before you do any of this wait for confirmation or ask in the psx-scene forums because as I say I am a little drunk and might have got my wires crossed.

Might be throwing our dongles in the bin shortly chaps

PS3 Hax Network wrote:

The first few minutes of the conference were spent explaining the state of security on other consoles (Wii, 360, etc). Following this, the group went on to explain the current state of affairs on the PS3. First, explaining Geohot’s memory line glitching exploit from earlier this year. The team then went on to explain the current PS3 security bypasses, such as jailbreaking and service mode/downgrading.

Approximately a half hour in, the team revealed their new PS3 secrets, the moment we all were waiting for. One of the major highlights here was, dongle-less jailbreaking by overflowing the bootup NOR flash, giving complete control over the system. The other major feat, was calculating the public private keys (due to botched security), giving users the ability to sign their own SELFs Following this, the team declared Sony’s security to be EPIC FAIL!

The recent advent of these new exploits means current firmware is vulnerable, v3.55 and possibly beyond. It will be very difficult for Sony to fix the described exploits.

The team then displayed the website http://fail0verflow.com/ were we assume will host examples of the new exploits and further details. They stated that easy to use tools would be coming next month.

edit again:

you just need the 3.50 FW to play gt5 but dont download it from sony(web site) as its the 3.55 and i found a 3.50 with the 3.55 included lol,

Sony can bring out as many firmwares as they like now, this machine is wide open due to their own stupid mistakes.

Its fucking EPIC that the real hardcore hackers only bothered to look at the machines security when Sony removed Other OS, talk about shooting yourself in the foot multiple times

edit: this thread should be renamed to the Official PS3 Hacking Thread because Jailbreak is going to be history shortly, still a nice little method to get us started with PS3 hacking though but its going to be a short lived exploit for sure.

So how to do it the easiest and cheapest way ?

It wont cost a penny and should be extremely simple to do, we just have to hold on until these guys clean up and release the tools then all hell breaks loose on the ps3 scene.

This is not like some group of hackers making a site and trying to fool us into thinking they have something like we have had so many times in the past too.

Fakers don't go to the biggest hacker convention in the world and explain the method and show it in action.

Although now because the method has been explained other people may be able to reproduce this quickly and release stuff sooner, either way this is sony being shafted bigtime by their own retardation.

Watch this space, if we thought Jailbreak was big news and I personally did then Jailbreak will be nothing compared to what is heading our way.

2011 will be the year for PS3, but not for $ony

#1364303 by unknown[9089] at 2010-12-30 16:49:50 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Sony will still make huge profits, sell loads of games and will barely be affected financially by this.

You just have to look at the history of hacked consoles to know this.

2011 will be the year for playstation modders.

Everything else will remain pretty much the same I am sure.

Why do people use the terms $ony, and Micro$oft?
I don't get it. Aren't they allowed to make money from their products? You don't HAVE to use it, so you can keep your money in your pocket....

they are billion dollar corporations.

No one said they are not allowed to make money, do you have an on topic point to make in this thread or are you just going to piss and moan because of the way people write certain things ?

and people who chime into a thread with off topic irrelevant bullshit, if you guys don't like the way someone types $ony then GTFO.

Now lets get back on topic please.

I've fancied a PS3 for ages now but the hoops you have to jump through in order to jailbreak them has put me off......watching this thread with baited breath.

I 'll buy a PS3 if it's easy to copy games for them but I just don't have the disposable income to spend £50 on a game that I may or may not even like.

Just watch the sales of the PS3 go through the roof once this exploit becomes well known.

#1364450 by unknown[9089] at 2010-12-31 11:13:35 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Thing is its technically not an exploit or a hack, or at least the end result wont be.

It means because sony had pretty naff security where it actually mattered we can sign our own stuff so the ps3 will always think its legit sony firmwares or whatever with no exploits or hacks getting in the way of anything.

This is what's so good about it and future proof, it will take a hardware revision to block this and they simply cant revoke the private key now so anyone with a current hardware revision and that is about 60 million ps3`s in the wild can utilise this.

This is possibly the biggest thing to happen in the console hacking world ever.

#1364486 by EarwigDonor (VIP) at 2010-12-31 14:47:25 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

So will this need to have games burned to BluRay or still be playable from Hard Disc ? With that in mind is it possible to use a 2TB USB drive or soemthing as you are not going to get many games on the internal 320GB :-(

#1364490 by unknown[9089] at 2010-12-31 15:02:28 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Nothing should change in the way we play games with the exception we can sign our backup loaders with the legit sony key so they can and will run on any firmware version on any of the current hardware revision of the ps3.

The backup loaders might evolve and be able to play all games from internal or external but at the moment some work internal, some don't, and vica versa.

I do hope and don't see any reason why now we cant get fully fledged custom dashboards and firmwares that will allow any size internal ps3 hard drive because at the moment I believe its limited by sony to 650gb and even then you only get 5oo and odd GB.

Having all games run from either internal or external is the most important thing to start with I think, having a 2tb external is no problem at all.

I have 13 games on an 80gb external btw, only a handful of PS3 games are actually that big to be honest.

I am going to sort out some of my files and format one of my 1tb externals and give it to my son for games, my bet is that will be enough for a long long time.

That's how i did, 2TB External and have  more than 30 games if not more...
