I wasn't sure if there was a thread already started but i couldn't find one.
So guess this can be used to discuss any PS 3 jailbreak news.

A real public downgrader has just been released for anyone unlucky enough to be on 3.50

I actually think a sticky for everything PS3 Jailbreak related would be a good idea but I dunno if the mods will go for that.

The speed and amount of progress being made is superb and it all needs put in one place for tb`ers in my opinion.

Asking "noob" questions on PSX scene pretty much gets you flamed or insulted because those guys are understandably a bit sick of the same old "noob" questions they get all the time.

Its been a crazy few days for sure but finally after all the madness we do get the actual USB masterkey !

After the bloody so called masterkey we got posted earlier today was wrong hehe

For anyone wondering I believe this in a nutshell means we can upgrade to 3.50 to play our retail Turismo for example (until 3.50 is inevitably hacked) and then downgrade easily to play pre 3.50 games and homebrew through jailbreak.

Not had a chance to fully read up on the latest developments but I do get the impression that 3.50 jailbreak is just around the corner and not a single game requires or has been compiled by the firmware yet, although I am sure all new releases will require it its the same old cat and dog game but as I said a load of times now, no one can beat hackers and open scene homebrew developers, no one !

Btw what device are you using ? was going to get a teensy board but those things are like gold dust so I ordered 2 P3Go`s that should be arriving shortly.

Heard good things about them from loads of places and they can take all the most common payloads and the specs are really high.

I bought the minimus device by team xecuter works perfectly for me. But i think in time i will need a newer device with a bigger flash

kakarato found the working master key today so the public downgrader PSGrade is finally functional

I will be glad when 3.50 is hacked because of the games that have been compiled use the 3.50 SDK like GT 5 and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Was tempted by the Minimus but once the P3Go went open source I couldn't resist.

Especially at the price point too.

I am sure they will fix it, I can't see it giving them too much trouble with the work they have already done but it's a big problem until it is sorted!

I read its something to do with the files being replaced with debug ones. The debug consoles didn't have blu-ray playback support. So by the sounds of it, it will be fairly easy to fix

You know what... I'm rebranding this topic "The Official PS3 Jailbreak Topic". I didn't realise just how many "other" JB topics there were so to stop more of them popping up, please use this topic for all PS3 jailbreak discussions including new software, hardware, exploits, issues and workarounds etc. Topic is also stickied as the PS3 JB really does seem to have taken off and the scene seem pretty good with new releases too, so it doesnt look like a flash in the pan either.

I reckon the recent 3.55 update is because Sony themselves have discovered a hole that will allow 3.5 to be JB and so want to patch it quickly before any hackers exploit it. That's my theory anyway.

Now, onto myself. My PS3 has not yet arrived from Amazon with my GT5 bundle, but when it arrives how do I actually go about this jailbreak stuff? I know there's not a fully working 3.5 JB yet so I need to pray my PS arrives with 3.41 (which I doubt since it's part of a GT5 bundle?). I already have several of the PS3 games downloaded from here - what next?

Providing it does have 3.50 (which is probably will for reason you said) You need to buy one of the USB devices that are available. Personally i use http://www.modtraders.co.uk/minimus32.html but any of the ones mentioned here will work. So you have the P3Go, PS3 Break, X3 Max and the list goes on.

Once you have one you need to download the payload .hex file for your specific board whether it be PL3 or Hermes 4B and depending on what dongle you have depends on the method used to get the .hex on there. After that you use the usual boot method to jailbreak (power swtich off, insert dongle, power switch on, then power button quickly followed by eject)

I am no expert but I am trying to keep up with what's happening so I will try and answer the best I can.

Your ps3 might arrive with 3.50 (definitely wont ship with 3.55) which can be downgraded although you have probably read the above comments about a few issues certain people are having but I am extremely confident this is not a big problem, can be fixed easily and wont affect most of us anyway.

You need to buy a dongle or a programmable usb dev board like the Teensy++ but the programmable usb dev boards are extremely hard to get at the moment.

I chose the P3go because its a great price, has very high specs and is open source however from what I gather its not the easiest dongle to upgrade and work with however its still supposed to be so simple pretty much anyone will be able to work with it.

I posted this in another thread but I will post it again regarding games and if they work from internal. external, need a disk in the drive (any game disk btw) and what payload they work with.

I am still waiting for my dongle to arrive but the way I see it is when it comes I follow the upgrade instructions for my dongle (on the P3go site), place the latest and hopefully best payload onto the dongle and then pop it into my ps3 usb board and boot.

I think I may have to use a usb thumbstick or external hard drive in order to install the homebrew (I.E backup launcher, ftp etc etc) but I could be mistaken in my case as I think I can do this from the P3go dongle itself.

As soon as my dongle arrives I will be looking much deeper into the workings of it but I believe it differs slightly with different dongles.

If anyone can correct me where I am wrong (if I am lol) please do as I openly admit I am not an expert on the subject.

Sounds easy enough... How do you find out what board your PS3 has without opening it up, and where are the hex files downloaded from?

(decision to get a PS3 was made only a week ago, so this is all new to me - i've checked a couple of the MANY topics but not finding much help for a 'noob')

To find out what firmware version you have go to the system menu on the xmb, then system information and your firmware version will be displayed there.

You can download the .hex files from http://psx-scene.com/forums/cmps_index.php or http://www.ps3-hacks.com/ or http://www.ps3hax.net/ plus loads of other places.

Just need to do a little search around the site to find the right news posts and the .hex files will be in there.

As dave73 said there are lists around to display what games work on internal/external drives. When everything is up and running you might want to set up your PS3 so you can FTP games to it. This is because some games have files bigger than 4GB (limitation of FAT 32) so you cant just put them onto the PS3.

Im not saying i'm an expert but i know my fair share of stuff regarding this topic so if anyone needs any help with anything just drop me a PM or post here

well you can put them on the ps3 (internal drive) if they have files over 4gb but cant do it with an external drive as the ps3 only supports fat32 external drives, the internal drive has no such limitations.

I believe you just ftp the games to the internal ps3 hard drive (you might want to consider upgrading the ps3 internal drive to something bigger)

hi,
i have a quick question:

do i need a working bluray-drive to play games with JB?

because my drive is dying on me again. and i might get a slim... replacement laseres with quality are hard to come by these days. too bad its on 5.5 allready, damn GT5.. but i think we will see more downgrade and JB stuff in 2011.

If you want to play the games that require a disk in the drive then yes, if not then I am pretty sure you will be fine if your drive is fucked.

All the games with Working with disc next to the name need a disk in the drive.

edit: Matrix PS3 Mini dongle $6.66 USD *THE* cheapest downgrade and 'any payload hex' solution in the world!

Question nr 1. If i downgrade to 3.41 and jailbrak it, could i upgrade it again?

Question mr 2. Could i burn the iso out or do i have to transfear them to the ps3 via ftp client???

Question nr 3. Do i need anything specific to downgrade or jailbreak it??

Question nr 4.Can someone make a guid on this device?? or tell me what to do?

Question nr 5. Can i download games from TB and just burn them and insert in my ps3 if i jailbreak it?
