He is one of the greatest authors I have read. The books are excellent.

I believe this show has potential as long as they keep it serious.

Not really sure what piss poor shows you mean. I usually enjoy the shows that come from HBO, at least the big name shows like Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Pacific, Carnivāle,... were very good in my opinion. Must be a difference of taste then.
Unless that was sarcasm ?

Anyway I'm staying positive, everything so far seems to say it will be a good show ( Martin is even writing the script for episode 6 or 7, if I'm not mistaken )

Personally, I can't wait for it! The books are awesome and finally a fantasy series will be taken seriously.
HBO is the only network that has the ability to give this show justice.

HBO also made "The Wire" and "Entourage" which are both kickass shows in my opinon

This show looks a bit too much "Lord of the Rings", but since it's a show and not a movie it could be pretty intresting and HBO always make great tv-shows.

Sean Bean is in it also, tbh i don't know if it's like Lord of the Rings, it certainly looked a bit like it after a quick read through this thread.

I have never had as high expectations for a show, will probably be disappointed because of that, but the books just got so much potential as a long tv-show!

This show/book is nothing like Lord of the Rings at all, about the only similarity is Sean Bean.

You forgot about Rome. That was an awesome show. Also you forgot about True Blood. (I believe that's HBO) Another really great show. (If you skip season 2. That whole maenad (sp?) storyling was stupid.)

I got the books on my to do list, not sure if I should watch this show until I've read them to get as much out of them as possible, but then again the show might feel all wrong after I've read the books. I don't know, it does looks pretty good.
