One feature suggestion: Subtitles,
I use subtitles to watch my episodes, will be nice to have a feature that will rename also the .srt subtitle file (or other filetypes for the subtitles)
yah and sme subtitles are more than one file idx and sub and rar .....it only works for adding them manually in the app using file>select file
I'm not getting it to work...
I select all files, and then choose the subtitle file and nothing happen.
Will be better if we were able to select more than one file..

This is not how the program is intended to be used.
You should be going to the file/folder first, then right-clicking...
just like when you rename a file normally.
also selecting a folder is indeed a good way to do it. but don't forget that SR will still accept queue additions once it's loaded. you could right click on 15 files, select SmartRename (at which point SR will start donig its thing), then you could go back to the folder and select another 15 files and select SmartRename, the files will then be added to the queue.
very true. the only slight problem with this is, when browsing a directory, files are 'usually' sorted by name. so to select the first batch of 15 files is easy, however, as files are being renamed, they get shifted up and down the file list, so selecting the 2nd batch of 15 files is not that straight forward.
a solution would possibly be to be able to add files to the queue without these being renamed yet, and have like a 'GO' button to kick off the process.
but again it comes back to the folder solution, which works well
Version 3.1 of SmartRename is now available. There are some big speed improvements in this version, along with improved drag/drop handling and full XP/Vista theme support. You can now also customize supported filetypes. I highly recommend users of previous versions upgrade.
Also a spiffy new website with all the info you need: here.
One question. I've added "srt" to the context menu but the smartrename option doesn't show when I right click an srt file or when I select multiple files which contain both avi/mkv and srt.
Whoa mate, wth? Did you get insulted because of my question? :/ That wasn't my intention at all, I know you are giving the program away for free and I appreciate it.
I thought this thread was meant as a "suggest features" etc as well, so I gave it a shot, wasn't expecting any tech support.
Sorry I didn't read the description through, and I've tried it out now. It works perfect with the filter list-option, really handy program

You should still be able to add the file manually and also drag it into the program.
It probably isnt on your context menu because .srt files are an unknown format on your system (ie they aren't associated with anything).
First associate them with something so they become a known filetype and then add the extension in smartrename.
Alternatively if your .srt are in the same folder as the tv episode, right click on the folder instead and that will load both avi and srt files.

I associated my srt files with notepad and now everything is honky dory! Thanks again for this sweet app

Version 3.2 of SmartRename is now available. This version adds a new "exceptions" feature. Along with the ability to retry failed queue items and also view item info.
Please check out the included help guide for more info on the new features.
I love this app, been using it side by side with the Simpsons DVDRips, works like a charm! Saves tons of work.
Btw, kind of a "bug" I noticed: If I extract some episodes, in f.ex:
C:\Downloads\The.Simpsons.S07.DVDRip\The.Simpsons.S07E01.Who.Shot.Mr.Burns.Part.2.DVDRip.XviD-MEDiEVAL\the.simpsons.701-med
(I usually just F3 inside the folder, search for .rar or .part01 to get just ione rarfile from each episode, and then just extract them all in the same folder)
At the most times, it will rename just one episode, and the rest will fail.
However, if I move all of the episodes just two steps back, to:
C:\Downloads\The.Simpsons.S07.DVDRip\
It works, it will rename all of them.
Dunno if it even counts as a bug, I just move'em before renaming now But in case you wanted to know.

When you are renaming the .avis and it fails, what is the full path of the files?

i have to thank you ever so much
my dad has been manually renaming shows for a year now just coz he likes things tidy i just told him about your program and he is extremely excited
i just tested it and it works great thank you so much i will be using this for ever
if you continue this project an idea if you like i don't know how easy or hard it would be to have an auto updater or check for latest version built into the program, but i just realized you have in the help area a link to the site so the site would show you if there was a newer version
other than that its the best thing since sliced bread
two great big thumps up

i have considered an autoupdater, but i personally dont use them.
if you use the site link in the program, the site will point out if there is a newer version available.
what does everybody else think about an autoupdate feature?
