For those of you that want to know how much a cheap seedbox costs, expect to pay about 20 $ a month.  I am an admin on a seedbox that offers unmetered bandwidth (about 20 meg dedicated, but still damn quick) I can't tell you on the public forum who it is tho due to the rules above =)

If you want your own seedbox and you have a linux box/xbox/something similar, then all you need is Torrentflux.  It's a great piece of opensource software that runs off of mysql and php.  Pretty easy to install on a computer.  If you need any help, the forums are very helpful.

*Azureus and uTorrent also have these capabilities too, so if you're unexperienced, these might be better solutions, but if you know SQL & PHP, then Torrentflux is definitely the way to go.

I've been with The Planet (hxxp://www.theplanet.com) for a loooooooong time, business requirements meant I needed a decent SLA and their technicians are usually really top notch!

Just picked up a server from LeaseWeb though, keep business seperate from personal 'n all... Everything seems to be going OK; loving the ability to pay with Paypal, and they offer more bandwidth for less cost.

What kinda program do you guys use to track how much bandwitch you have been using?

#752587 by unknown[24393] at 2006-12-23 03:07:58 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I would recommend http://readerror.gmxhome.de/

It is the best free meter

and for those running linux on their seedboxes,
"vnStat" is a great and simple program for tracking bandwidth usage.

I have server from dedibox international at the moment but I'm not very happy with it. Price is pretty high for sucky shared connection, I only get max 2-3mb/s upload and 6mb/s download. And then me and linux are not the best friends.

I'm thinking about getting windows 2003 box next. If you have any good suggestions dont hesitate to PM me. Reqs are at least 160Gb HDD and faster than 20mbit connection (dedicated) and windows 2003 is bonus.

Also I'm interested to hear comments about KeyWeb's servers.

Hello, There have been alot of dedibox Busts lately for illegal activities doing torrenting, I had a BoD server but it got busted, However i advice you to get leaseweb.com, Or vectoral.info

hxxp://giga-international.com/

Somebody try this server? it's really cheap

#755022 by chrono03Donor (Power User) at 2006-12-27 07:54:12 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

keep in mind that unlimited does not mean unmetered... Be careful and make sure you know how much you can transfer per month

#756087 by unknown[138547] at 2006-12-29 03:22:44 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Updated Again:

After trying about 5 different companies, and looking through webhosting talk...I would use:

Vectoral
Plans from 19-199/ month
Bandwidth from 150GB-5TB

I've been very satisfied

After I would get a seedbox, I would follow manaldski's tutorial for utorrent, especially for 100mbit

Well,

I have used a combination of hosts:

All of these are 100mbit
EV1Servers used to work but for some reason does not work anymore...
Serverbeach is still good (2TB Limit)...

The only thing I've noticed is that "dedibox.fr" is the only host kicking ass so to speak on the speed. The are several users on here uploading at max speed when I just on a torrent. Too bad you have to be a resident of France

you don't, just buy from a reseller... i wouldn't reccomend dedibox tho, people have been getting bad speeds with em

#756501 by unknown[24393] at 2006-12-29 23:19:25 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

If you are from Europe go with Leaseweb. If you're in the US go with Layeredtech. It is better to get a capped server rather than an unlimited one.

#756511 by unknown[127207] at 2006-12-29 23:41:04 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Or get vectoral.info

Cheap.

#757507 by unknown[136724] at 2006-12-31 21:02:06 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

My advice for capped servers: LayeredTech. They offer 1.5TB bandwidth with every server. Also, don't get a 1TB server. Its easy to go through 1TB, or at least it was easy for me. (I was an uploader at another torrent site)

#757542 by unknown[127207] at 2006-12-31 22:33:32 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yes capped is the best for torrenting.

I suggest for Cheap EU servers,

Vectoral.info
LeaseWeb.com

US.

Softlayer.com
Layeredtech.com

If you get linux make sure you know how linux works, Knowing the commands etc...

Or if you have no knowledge about linux, get Windows 2003 web edition Which is gonna cost you extra, There is always way's to get pirated windows

#757642 by unknown[136724] at 2007-01-01 02:08:11 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I highly recommend Windows 2003, its just like if you're running a windows system at home. download utorrent (or your preferred torrent client) and its just like any other windows computer

Anyone having upload speed issues with LayeredTech. On a torrent with say 15 leechers/21 seeds I can max out the box D/L but only get 4.0kb upload and I can't figure out why.

Its a pretty much new box, all its got extra is bittorrent and torrentflux.

Any ideas

It's the amount of "Leechers" Leeching of you.
Example: If there is 100 Seeders And 30 Leechers, The 100 Seeders speeds will all add up and the leechers will download the Maximinum speed.
If you download the newest torrents with 1 Seeder and 60 Leechers you will seed the amount of speed your Seedbox is capable of.

Appreciate the reply.

That stat i posted was wrong its actually 21 leechers/15 seeds. surely I can connect to more than only one peer and get 4.0kb?

Now I can't connect to any. Despite the fact there are 20 leechers still

Leechers could be seeding part of the file, so they are acting as a seeder although they are showing as a leecher.
