OMG!!!!!!!!!

Read tis article:

Certain “highly anticipated” Xbox 360 title filling four discs worth of space

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

We’d figured as early as February that Microsoft would forgo placing a next-gen optical drive in the Xbox 360 for a myriad of acceptable reasons, but we couldn’t help but keep the nagging issue of disc space from lingering in the back of our minds. From the high-res textures fit for an HDTV to the higher polygon counts befitting a next-gen console, the space available on standard DVDs is suddenly in increasingly short supply. So far we’ve yet to see an Xbox 360 game take up more than a single disc, but if the most recent issue of Game Informer is any indication, Microsoft may soon be sweating their decision to pass up on a next-gen storage format.

The issue takes an in-depth look at all the features of the Xbox 360, and while GI is generally quite taken with the 360’s performance, functionality, and especially its controller, they unearth some unsettling details regarding the console’s diminuitive storage capacity. According to Game Informer, nearly every developer they talked to at X05 expressed difficulties fitting their launch titles onto a single disc. One unnamed yet “highly anticipated” game in particular is said to currently occupy a full four 9Gb DVDs. Elder Scrolls IV immediately jumps to mind [UPDATE: or perhaps not, duuur], but any of those Japanese RPGs that Microsoft is always touting are also likely candidates. Microsoft’s J Allard downplayed the storage issues, citing that improved compression rates in the future will allow much more data to be held on an individual disc, and that the pre-launch crunch forced many current 360 titles to use space far more inefficiently than they would have otherwise.

Microsoft has already hinted that a future add-on may be developed to allow the 360 to handle high-def movies, but that the device would be unrelated to gaming. Should the status quo remain unchanged, that means that Xbox 360 owners will be stuck with standard DVD media until at least the next console generation, circa 2010. And, obviously, just because a title is relegated to multiple discs doesn’t mean that it can’t be a great game—just look at Final Fantasy VII. But in this modern era, will consumers still put up with swapping discs mid-play? Games which are linear, such as Halo, may have little to lose by opting for a multi-disc format, but games which are, er… cubic, such as Grand Theft Auto, may take a significant hit in their ease of playability. All told, did Microsoft make the right decision when choosing the 360’s optical drive? If not, would they risk segmenting their fanbase by releasing a newer, HD-DVD enabled box in the future?

now com'on this site is biased isnt it, i mean look at the site name.

As i have said i have read that the ps3 is not going to be out until 2007
these sources are respected magazines in the uk and dont bullshit or hype.

Im not going to start fighting you by googling links and posting them.
because i could find sites to say its not out until 2007.

But think about this.

Sony knows that the PS3 will not be out until 2007
So what do they do?
Do they tell people?

Feck no becuase they know people will go out and buy a 360.

Has sony stated in stone that the ps3 will be out in 2006?
Nope, only wispers and no promises.

Think what you like.
Wait for the ps3, but while you are i will have had well over a year of next gen gaming and killer titles.

Tell you what i will do you a deal
If the ps3 comes out in 2006 i will post a photo of my ass in this forum ok.

I've heared that you can only play with your 360 if you got a HDTV Screen, otherwise the graphic is looking like the normal XBox. Is this true, because i got no HD TV and i want to buy a Xbox soon?

#474686 by Carpy (Anti - Royalist) at 2005-12-07 23:06:58 (7 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

na i would say they still look alot better than current gen consoles, so long as you connect it via component cable. At least you can get 480p which is alot better than rgb scart connection.
If not then the graphics are a little washed out, but you can still see some nice effects and smooth gameplay.

My advice would be to save up for a 19'' monitor and connect it via the vga cable, you will be able to play games at 720p which looks great.

you can pick up a nice 19'' widescreen tft for as little as 250 pounds

What does 720p mean? 720 pixel or what? I got a 19" TFT already, so its better to play on a TFT as on a HDTV or normal TV screen?

P stands for Progressive scan
I stands for interlaced

P is better
it gives you a smoother picture

720p is a screen resolution of 1280x720
1080i is a screen resolution of 1920x1,080

So long as your monitor can display at least 1280x720 then you can use the vga cable and you will be able to play games in hd 720p.

As for what format is best TFT or CRT, i would say tft so long as it has a good response time 15ms and below.

how does the xbox 360 games look on a standard TV.
Im saving up to get a HDTV but for the mean time im gonna have to stick to a standard T.V.

the 360 dont look as good on a regular tv but

ppl who say it looks crap or say it loosk like a normal xbox need to seriously get a grip ..

if you have a reasonably modern tv prefferably widescreen , it will blow your mind !

hdtv does improve the clarity and sharpness noticeably but unless your on a realy old crappy tv you will still get a nice sharp reletavely "next gen" look from your 360 on a regular tv .. of course hdtv is what ppl should go for

I second that.

I play my Xbox 360 on a standard 28" widescreen tv and the graphics are amazing. I'm sure that if i played it on a HDTV, it would really blow my mind since it already looks fabulous on a regular tv.

just be sure to use a rgb scart or if possible a component cable (comes with the full system).
I have tried Kameo and PGR3 in 480p, 720p & 1080i

The results

Kameo
480p - looks light years ahead of anything out on current gen consoles
720p -  Sharp and silky smoooth
You just got to check out the grand battle level in Kameo
The scale of it will blow you away. Think of LOTR ROTK, 1000's of NPCS but all in real time, no slow down nothing, just smooth as a babys ass.
1080i - static images look even better than 720p but once you start moving about you get slight image lag

PGR3
480p - looks light years ahead of anything out on current gen consoles
720p -  Sharp and silky smoooth
1080i - A little image lag, but not as bad as Kameo

Just make sure you use either a rgb scart cable or component cable.
Component will give you a little better picture than rgb scart.

do they just plug into the back of the tv.
i know its a noob question but i suk wen it comes to tvs and such

This should help

If your tv pretty old or a cheap make then i dont think it will have a component connection.
If it does not then rgb scart is your best bet, its simple to connect as it carries video and audio.
just be sure to check your tv has a rgb enabled scart connection.

As for component, that only carries video signals but dont worry the 360 component cable comes with audio cables attached.

If you dont have either a rgb scart or component connection then i would buy a new tv before you get a 360.

its funny hearing people say gfx arnt that great. But what they are forgetting is these are the first games for it. In a year or so the developers will now the full capabilities of the 360 and will start bringing out visually stunning games.
The people who are doubting its greatness need to wait for 6 months or so before they judge the graphical capabilities.

And the PCs will be twice as poweful as the xbox360 by then, and the games will look even greater on the pc.

#481429 by unknown[66354] at 2005-12-14 08:20:09 (7 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

they will always be more powerful but i dont think people can afford to buy a new 500 pound gfx card ever few months and then buy a 200+ processor aswell plus other shit.
the games at the minute are only running on one core for the 360 once the developers use the power of all 3 that will be great.
