I have played CoD2 on xbox 360 WITHOUT hdtv and the graphics were pretty much the same, if not better, than on my pc - with all settings maxed. But the difference HDTV makes (from my experience with watching dvds on both hdtv and sdtv) would mean that on a HD tv, xbox 360 would look better than a pc!

I think it's a good buy. 400 bucks for HD gaming + MCE compatability. Totally worth it and I can't wait to get mine (If I ever do...stupid shortages).

its funny hearing people say gfx arnt that great. But what they are forgetting is these are the first games for it. In a year or so the developers will now the full capabilities of the 360 and will start bringing out visually stunning games.
The people who are doubting its greatness need to wait for 6 months or so before they judge the graphical capabilities.

The xbox 360 is incredibly powerful for a £300 system

The games do look good, and they will look a whole lot better in a year or so when developers get used to the architecture and new engines are released (unreal 3 etc).  Hell i've got one ordered and am looking foreward to it's arrival.  However saying the graphics are  currently better than any PC can handle is just daft.  Carpy used the example of gears of war...  It uses the unreal 3 engine which is known to run fine on the 6800 series of cards, let alone the new generation.

The full capacity of the latest gen graphics card has no where near been tapped at the moment.  Anything that the xbox 360 is pumping out at the moment can easily be achieved on current hi spec PCs.  Saying it's superior at present is just plain wrong.  Infact it's likely PCs are better.  COD2 for example can look better on PCs because of the better AA that can be achieved (the 360 uses 4x or 2x, whereas a 7800GTX or x1800xt can run at 8x AA and still achieve extremely good FPS).

The xbox 360 is approximatly the equivalent of a top spec PC at present.  In a year it's likely the graphics will be superior to that of the  current hi spec, because of the nature of consoles and how they don't have to run things in the background etc, and can be more optimised to a single hardware configuration.  But at present, as i've already said... a top spec PC is JUST as good.

I'm not taking anything away from the power of the 360, but please stop with the "You have sour grapes"  comments because people are putting foreward this argument.

And yes I have a top spec PC, AND have played on the xbox 360 alot.  So I can compare.

maybe your right phate when you put it that way, but name one pc game out at the mo that has better graphics that pgr3 or kameo?

and your not telling me running cod2 with 8x AA, AF and max details and res is going to run anywhere as smooth as the 360?

and the ''You have sour grapes'' comment
your right people are putting forward an arguemnt that have not even played the 360 so how can they have a valid argument? it just makes me think some people could not get a 360, so they just talk shit about it. or maybe they cant accept that the pc is not king for a day.

i have said many times that the 360 will not be top dog for long, in 6 or so months the pc will be on top again.

If like yourself if you can back your argument with valid points and testing then fine, but many have not.

pHATE explained what i was trying to say better than i did

Naming one game that has better graphics than PGR3 or Kameo is quite impossible currently, since there is none why? Because lately pc releases have been ports from ps2 and xbox with few exceptions... nothing new, FEAR is visually quite nice, and runs smooth for me. Condamned looks quite same as FEAR (No wonder since they both are made by monoloth and they both uses fears engine) and it is an xb360 exclusive title.

As pHATE already said Gears of War runs on Unreal engine 3 and developers of unreal engine 3 has said that you can see all the eye candy in ut 2006 or 2007 dunno what name it will have with ati x850xt or nvidia 6800ultra card.

Playing 5 mins... bleh we played about 8 hours straight  Yes, even i got to play :w000t: with the classical "Die or one level until changing turns" system haven't seen what pgr3 looks like since he only bought Kameo and cod2.

I run COD2 with 1024x768 resolution all maxed with 4x anti aliasing and  8x anistropic filtering and can honestly say, xb360 version of it didn't look better with 32" 720p HDTV

I will definently buy myself xb360 once i got the money

So true, not one developer has admited yet to unlocking more then 50% of the consoles power(source ign).  Most of the launch games were either direct ports, or slightly altered for the 360.  I do not think any of them are even threaded.  Give it even half a year and you will see the true 360 power.

I am still curious as to what instruction set M$ put into the xbox 360.  Does it use the new WGF (Windows Graphics Foundation), codenamed Avalon.  I know the card in there is completely different from any today, having no dedicated piplines, but was curious as to if it uses WGF, as that gives a huge advantage to the xbox 360 vs ps3

i have read it in a few respected games magazines.
They tend to know more than most game sites.

Shit i just noticed that a new mall is opening over here and their selling Xbox 360 (CORE) systems for 160 euro's, what exacly is the difference between the core and the ''regular'' 360? i mean you can insert an hdd in core to right?

#472215 by THEBiZ (User) at 2005-12-05 13:50:49 (7 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

160€??? That seems too cheap to be true. Maybe they labeled XBOX360 with XBOX price tags by mistake?

#472217 by Carpy (Anti - Royalist) at 2005-12-05 13:53:45 (7 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

core
normal av connecter (not HD)
a wired controller.

it does not have a
media remote control
Hd component cable
Harddrive
Wireless control pad

I double checked and its true, a core system for 160 euros, unfortuneatly its only the first 20 360's that arrives to their store , but core sounds useless in my ears

if your going to use it ofline and not with a hdtv then consider it
But i would not bother getting a 360 without an hdtv

Buying the cheaper version of XB360 is not worth it, since there is no place to save your games... so you have to buy an memorycard (~30€) or the hard drive that costs ~100€. You dont even get one thing that has been hyped in xb360: Full support for HDTV.
The HDD is supposed to have some used capacity on it already, since there is some shit that game developers use, don't get me wrong here it's a good thing since they use that space to make games load faster, in example the elder scrolls 3 Oblivion will use that space to make the loading parts go really fast.

Or that was what i heard... dunno also my mates HDD in his xbox had some of the space already used after he deleted all the useless crap like music videos and that kind of stuff

Anyways, since i won't be buying HD ready television any time soon, is it possible to hook the box up with pc monitor to get those resolutions work

Why i ask this? Well i will buy xb360 eventually, and my current monitor is old as hell so im gonna buy my self Samsung SyncMaster 930BF 19"  4ms monitor for the pc

dvd9, i cant see them getting ripped to dvd5

i also dont think we will see a mod chip for a good 6-12months either.
And alot longer for a chip that allows you to still use Xboxlive

Yes, you can plug it into a PC monitor, you just need to buy the VGA cable.

Why can't u see them beeing ripped to DVD5 ?, it must be possible in some way.  and a modchip that allows u to use Xbox live. hah thoose chip doesn't exist on the normal Xbox eather. so I have no problems in that

I dont think it will be possible to rip them to dvd5, Look at the problems rippers has with GT4.
I still dont think there is a 100% stable working copy out.
Now think about how much data there will be on 360 dvd's compared to the ps2's.

I may be wrong, infact i hope i am.

The chip i have allows xbox live, it has a switch.
Tho live only works with non copy games if thats what you mean
