Dunno if you played WoW in cata or MoP, but you would be amazed how many players don't even understand the concept of macros or keybinds in this game. Sole fact that 99% players waste their spacebar (easiest spamable key on entire keyboard) on jump is astonishing for me. I remeber this funny little moment in cata just after it was released when 5-man heroics were challenging and how fast they were nerfed becouse of overall whine that they are too hard.

Don't get me wrong, i don't blame playerbase much for it's current state. Blizz made this game so easy now it's hard to not get more and more stupid by playing it.

FYI the only problem i have with younger players is "mom error". If he/she is good, age doesn't concern me much.

Space is not wasted on Jump, jump is one of the most useful things in an mmo, it's what we all do when we're running, standing, walking, we jump everywhere, It's fun and a nice distraction. Do not underestimate it.
Seriously though, there are enough ways to bind every macro and ability you could need with a proper mouse and with the use of modifiers.

Jumping is one of the most important buttons in the game. Pretty much every single raid boss throws some type of AOE on the ground and when pressing jump you avoid taking damage for a long period of time.
On ragnaros jumping probably reduces the damage taken by 75% and that is a shitload of healing.

I'm sorry. What? there is only 1 arena map which force you to use jump, absolutely none bg.

You need it only in couple of places: Stonecore (1 type of adds uses quake), BFD (low lvl dung jump puzzle on enterence), ToFW (i guess third part of boss fight to gain altitude), EoE (same reason), naxx (dance boss) and this are all places i can think of that acctually force you to jump. I thought that fire resitance works better to avoid dmg in Ragnaros fight but what do i know. FYI flames on the floor are not avoidable by jumping just like you won't loose healing while jumping in for example healing rain, you need to move away from it in anyway like blink, heroic leap and so on or by foot. Only one class needs jump in pvp and these are hunters, but only when they have engineering and parachute.

How come jump is any useful in this game to get best spammable key on entire keyboard?

Nobody said anything about arena.

Every single AOE spell that is on the ground or placed upon a target will have a maximum range it is effective. That means it is either direct contact on the ground or a bubble around the target player or area.
Rain type effects can't be avoided.

You don't lose your jump button when you equip gear with fire resistance. Don't know where you got that silly idea in your head. You still have to wear fire resistance when doing MC but you also need to time your jumps and movement right to save mana on pressure on the healers. The lava ticks for something like 600 and if you avoid 3-4 ticks that is almost a full health bar.

And yes you reduce damage taken by jumping. You only take damage for being in the lava when the damage ticks.

And no space bar is not the best spammable key on the keyboard. It is the longest key with a single trigger just as large as any other button on the keyboard. It is the easiest key to find on the keyboard but if you need to spam a key often it is MUCH better to bind Q, E, R, F, V especially if you have a mechanical keyboard.

LOL i was at least hoping you talk about Firelands. MC wise you still had fire resitance aura of paladin and pots for fire resitance and only hadful off ppl that get a lot of dmg like tanks and melee dps needed it. No need for fire resi gear. But nowadays MC ragnaros is like 3-4 shot boss solo wise? You need to jump there?

BTW you dwell over and over again about 1 place. 1 outdated place that you can solo effortlessly in vast,  big ass game! Also i have exercise for you, get priest use levitate (hey it keeps you on same height as jump but non stop) in flames and tell me how much dmg you will avoid. I will tell you, but i don't wanna ruin suprise for you, so i will put it in spoiler tags:

NONE

I remebered 2 more places you needed jump in entire game: vortex pinnacle last boss and nexus last boss (and only if you wanted archi effect was dispellable).

BTW you always know where space is. You will never lose it. mispress or anything cuz it's impossible. Q,E,R F, V (i would add Z, C, X and ~) are great keys to spam, but it's only 5 (or 9) but with space it makes 6 (or 10) and it's before alt and shift combos. dunno how about you but 5(or 9) spammable keys are worse than 6 (or 10). You can put jump somwhere else like (i know it's heresy for you, but bare with me) mouse button.

So we have 8 places when jump is needed and only on specific encounters, specific adds or places. 10 if we take pvp into account (class or map based).

No srsly you changed my mind. Thank you. Really! I'm diffrent man now. Jump is so useful. Yay! WOW! OMG! I have to sing that out, sing with me plz. This song will fit http://youtu.be/wlq0lYB3iSM

Jumping out of AoE's is worse than simply running out.

Jumping in WoW registers you at the place where you started the jump until you land.

So there's a good chance you will take more damage from the AoE if you jump out.
