That has nothing to do with the site itself, most releases come from the scene...

Last time I criticized this tracker I got a fat warning so I'm treading on thin ice, presumably.

1.  Slow pre-times on the tracker are TB's problem, not the scene.
2.  The scene pre's a lot of stuff that don't show up here.  For a better example of that, use a pre channel or check out another trackers that grab stuff from the scene.  You'll notice other sites have much faster pre-times and offer way more content.  I assume those sites simply have more members/uploaders pushing content.

Some things on TB take hours to show up, where they take seconds or a few minutes on other trackers.  Some things take days to show up.  And I'm talking about big movie/game releases.  The extreme lack of peers on this site makes snatching old stuff even more difficult, maybe it has something to do with limiting the total number of accounts?  Also the 30-day TTL limits the amount of content, too.

I love the forums here, by far my favorite of any website, but the tracker itself is underwhelming.  I don't really care what happens to the tracker but losing the forums is a pretty significant loss.

If TB is your only 0day, I advise you to expand your horizons.

Yeah, I get you. My "most releases come from the scene" was mainly about the remark made on the content. Ever since the financial trouble in the spring I stopped using TBy as much, mainly coming when a release didn't make it to another tracker or two I'm on, but back when I used it in late 2012 and early 2013 a large majority of the releases I downloaded were available within 5 minutes, usually only half that. To me, that's good. Most P2P users (mainly just on public torrent sites) don't even know what the scene is and don't understand the concept of it leaking from topsites to private torrent sites, then public websites. I don't pay much attention to categories outside of tv and some mp3, but yes I have seen some releases uploaded 1-6 days late. Not many, but still some. Plus there is the fact that there is a latency between when a new upload shows up on /log.php and when it's actually on the browse page - a release can be uploaded and appear on the log but it does not go on the browse page until it has a seed. Usually I see late releases uploaded when the site goes down. That's kind of expected. I never paid much attention to peers but with 375GB down and 3.56TB up in half a year, well, I guess I did will. I will say 1.09 TB of that upload is from a freeleech pack of a tv show, but still. Maybe it's changed over the last few months, idk. 30 days isn't bad as long as you download releases as they come in or get some of the freeleech packs. I myself always grab stuff as it's released. I too am on multiple trackers...easily 5 or something.

Just my two cents anyway.

I remeber racing with you in the early days ;-)

Made a great team back then

That was the good old days, wasn't it? I miss the racing and uploading quite a bit. But I doubt I have the spare time for it nowadays.

Wow... Long time no see ! How's things ?

Would TorrentBytes have better luck surviving on Tor? Regardless of the lag.

Its certainly a shame to see the site just die, i've personally put in 1000's of hours in the past (along with many others) helping the site stay afloat and develop and never thought it would be a donation issue that would see its downfall.

I want to thank the current staff for keeping this place alive using money out of your own pockets to do so

I would request thought that if there are people willing to keep this site alive (even just as a forum) that you seriously consider passing over the code and database and allow them to do so.

Lets face it there is every chance that a new version of torrentbytes would arise and i'd much sooner see it passed to a current member who has the time and inclination to fix the current issues, rather than see some scam site pop up and take advantage of the members like happened when tbits closed.

Thanks to everyone who has ever been part of the staff here, especially those i was fortunate enough to work alongside

And especially big thanks to all the members who made the site so diverse and enjoyable, and who knows hopefully will do so again in the future if something can be worked out

Denise, my heroin. <3

What she said!

Another tracker I visit uses indiegogo to fund their tracker.

i.e. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/invad … ion-video/

Donors will donate, site will get money, and the campaign is so terrible looking no one will donate by mistake.

Everybody wins.

Knowing bits and pieces about the site's history, it feels like it's not your right to shut the place down with trustworthy VIPs offering to take the burden off.

How BoB is being treated after all he's done for TorrentBytes is shocking. Regardless, fingers crossed this isn't the end yet.

How do we solve this? Been an member since 8 years back.

We remember that this a community, its not about the staff, its about the forums and friendships formed!

Give the site to me and BoB, we pull the tracker offline and move the forum to a cheaper host until something can be sorted.
I don't want the hassle of running this place but I am certainly not prepared to see it die completely!

It only takes an hour or two for anyone to set up a forum, so there's no need to wait for a staff reply. Just post the forum url here , before this one goes down.

Exactly, its already been done. The url is in the topic.

Ideally what we need to happen is : all the forum content stays, besides Staffs venting on users forum, that gets wiped with their secrets! This way we don't lose any history! IF we sort shit out we can add the browse.php page back in and everyone still has their ratio's.

While I've always been a lurker and never contributed to the forums, I looked at my join date today and found 2005-05-20 (8 Years)... Dang!

This is my only tracker so anyone who has a spare invite to another private one, I'd love if you PM me.

Oh, and I'm all for a resurrection as TorrentKbytes - good call @bufa

You don't seem to understand the concept, the issue is not hiding, its paying the bills, Tor does not hide the bills or even stop them. I can't understand even how you come up with this as an idea lol

I have to ask... being a programmer since the past 20 or so years, and a web dev since the late 90s, knowing exactly how computationally demanding your forum, indexing service and torrent tracker is... why do you guys insist on running this on an expensive dedicated server instead of a reasonably performing VPS which costs just a fraction?

Apparently you don't have a clue how much it takes then, not only is the site run across 2(+) servers it actually takes more than you seem to understand, if a VPS was to work do you not think people would use that? And lets not forget a VPS is shared, if a Kimsufi 2g dedi server was enough to run it, do you not think that would be done on every site instead of these torrent sites using multiple servers for hosting, tracker, database? Maybe you were a programmer 20 yrs ago? It seems you need to come up to the current day, trackers like this and bigger have to use multiple servers. That was a laughable read though. thanks.

Terribly to wake up to this news. Has been a member since day one and used the everyday since then. Is their any good alternatives? Would be very happy if a friendly users could share an invite via PM. And ofc, if there is any way to save TB from going to the grave I like to help as much as I can

Getting too old for this ! Well I'm hoping if it does come down to it that we will go out gracefully. I'm with Green on this one. I would also like to see the TBy forums kept alive or at least have the community migrate somewhere.

For everyone looking into a new tracker, TorrentShack have open their signup.

Many thanks to Earwig for that!

(Still hoping for a miracle TBy)

It's hard to believe that I joined TB in 2005... How time flies :/ This is great loss for me, I truly get used to it.

Ps. This is my only source of torrents, could somebody provide me any good alternatives (via PM)? Much obliged.

This is exactly why I asked about the monthly traffic in average in this thread.

Has been up pretty much as long as TB. Now they recently decided to become closed. Meaning invite only.
They have all the torrents TB has and more. They recently built the site code up from scratch.
I have 5 invites and pretty sure people here have more, just don't feel like posting.
I will invite anyone within Uploader class that pm's me (no one else). Chances are TD will soon realize that TB members need a new place to live and remove invite only status.

No longer invite only. For a short period we now have open sign ups for those that want to join.

Glad to read that we're welcome there, thanks! I will definitely consider joining. If by any chance I could turn over my ratio there though, that would be amazing!
