Sorry to see this place go, I was a member back when it was TorrentBits.

If anyone can recommend some alternative sites, please send me a PM.  Thanks.

God damn, i've been so happy here i haven't really felt the need to look for another place. Now i have to, anyone want to like share some idea on that?

#1536515 by spirit (Power User) at 2013-07-21 21:12:05 (6 days ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I would appreciate any (if) suggestions for other sites as well if any one can spare them.

There are VIPs/staff members from other 0day trackers who usually have unlimited invites, they do permanent giveaways on other sites.  It might be possible to get one directed here to help migrate people to a new tracker.

It just depends how willing TBytes staff is to allow that to happen and if the other sites want to assist.  I've been apart of other trackers that got shutdown and the entire user database was moved.

Torrentbytes has open registration (?) so the other, more restrictive private trackers are probably less interested in openly accepting members.

I have known for a while that this day would happen. Damn you paypal!

Thanks for 7 wonderful years, Torrentbytes!

why? we need to keep the forum alive!

this is really sad, been with the site for a long time, got banned once even and got a new account. good old days when i was young and stupid. but now as ive grown with the site its going away?

(if anyone is looking for another site for the future i got 2 invites, pm)

one of the first things i check when i wake up is torrentbytes for so many years.

This absolutely sucks. I just want to say thanks to everyone who had a hand in keeping TB running all these years, been here for 5 years and it was always my go to tracker. I'm very grateful for the staff and uploaders for keeping it awesome.

Again, this really really sucks. Can't you guys take bitcoin donations or something instead of paypal? there has to be a way.

Registered myself on the forum Ezzy mentoined,
Even though I haven't been active on the forums replying, I did read a lot from you all.

Always a good boredom breaker.

Thanks for registering, I hope we can keep a lot of us together should no solution be found.

Even if it doesnt look like TBy (yet...) it's the same in spirit.

Users, Mods and Admins needed.

i have a message from bob to post on his behalf as he is currently unable to;

bob wrote:
As most of you know I was staff on TBy for quite a while.  Towards the end the frustrations that lost us some of the best staffers like DXC finally got to me.  Bickering with VBG was beyond a joke and rolled onto the forums.  It was apparent that there would be no intervention so really that was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.  Yet again the same person who caused the frustrations laid claim to another staffer gone.

I do get vexed to hear the mistruths being told on the forums, to the extent I rant and get banned.  The current people in charge have opted not to use their own accounts as a means to fund the site.  They were happy for me to do it and others who won’t be mentioned.  So smoke screen aside that is why the site is where it is.  In my opinion these people should stand down.

For what it’s worth Tokol has bent over backwards for this site, I harbour no ill feeling nor do I believe he has ever acted out with his belief in what is best for the community.  Unfortunately I cannot say the same for sniperfin, and what he has done for this site is really beyond me, with the exception of an overly complicated cheat log system I have no idea.

I stepped down for the good of TBy and in the hope it would continue without my bickering.  VBG opted to hang on and remain on staff years past when he should have stepped down, just like sniperfin.

I was called a martyr by a fool, as I believed this would never be happening had I not been left in the position of having to leave staff.  Well like me, hate me or think wtf is this clown, this would not be happening.

For the sake of this community I feel sniperfin should leave TBy and allow some new blood to take over, the site has stagnated for many years due to this and now it is almost dead.  Should a community be disbanded due to a few peoples stubbornness?

I spent years on staff, most at admin level, the issues with paypal mainly happened to MY paypal.  I would do it all again if I had an account.

I truly hope this site remains, however in a new state a not the current one.  In the past 6 months ive seen an admin be out right racist while at the same time a user was banned for being suggestively racist.  For me that captures the current feel in the forums, well done to Sniperfin for that, thanks for ruining the place.

i don't post much nowadays but when reading the forums it was the same old crap from the same old people.

it will be sad to see the site and the community or whats left of it go, cos lets be honest its nothing like what TB was back in the CoD server days

anyways much thx all that made things possible.

Read this whole thread and your question was attended to and answered, not by staff but...

I'm quite surprised how many people use this as a sole source :o

I have a bunch of private sites aswell as this as not one place has everything and i stopped using public trackers 10+yrs ago.

Personally though i moved to usenet+ sickbeard/couchpotato/headphones setup some months back and run my own indexer (private with just me as the only user) using the open source nZEDb software (a port of Newznab+, with active development and open source community). I still use torrents for things and keep all my tracker accounts active for "that one time you cant find something".

There is a bunch of trackers with faster speeds/pre's and more content than here but they are far from easy to get into unless you know someone willing to not only give you an invite but place their trust in you, something most won't do with the anonymity of the net as if you screw about they lose their account to.

As for ontopic, i have been fearful for sometime that it would be left to a situation where it was all behind closed doors with the community not really being told, other than "we are looking into alternatives", untill the finale was to happen. To the staff/donaters that have been actively working and paying for the site these last few months, i salute you!

As for the obvious things that have happened to cause the shutdown whereby staff wont put names up but wont step down/aside to let those who would, hmm, why let something die due to your stubbornness/power trip?

This community came from the ashes once before 8 yrs ago, people will state it was a totally seperate site but the base community was the same and who ultimately brought it back. Hopefully we can do the same again.

Made a great team back then

That was the good old days, wasn't it? I miss the racing and uploading quite a bit. But I doubt I have the spare time for it nowadays.

I can't see what's wrong in Green suggestion
Completely legal and clean forum and most of the 2000 members who are using the forums can live without the tracker anyway
I know that anyone can create a forum asking the people to join, but we will lose a lot of users in the process
We need the site database for the sake of not losing too much and for the sake of the history as well
I appreciate what the admins did in the past few months and I believe they did their best for the community, but I would like to hear their opinions about Green suggestion and if they are willing to collaborate

Had a great 5 years guys but now I guess not contributing to the scene for the last 7 years (MVids, AU TV) means TB is the only private tracker/ftp site I have.

If anyone could sling an invite or some alternatives that would be awesome.

Its certainly a shame to see the site just die, i've personally put in 1000's of hours in the past (along with many others) helping the site stay afloat and develop and never thought it would be a donation issue that would see its downfall.

I want to thank the current staff for keeping this place alive using money out of your own pockets to do so

I would request thought that if there are people willing to keep this site alive (even just as a forum) that you seriously consider passing over the code and database and allow them to do so.

Lets face it there is every chance that a new version of torrentbytes would arise and i'd much sooner see it passed to a current member who has the time and inclination to fix the current issues, rather than see some scam site pop up and take advantage of the members like happened when tbits closed.

Thanks to everyone who has ever been part of the staff here, especially those i was fortunate enough to work alongside

And especially big thanks to all the members who made the site so diverse and enjoyable, and who knows hopefully will do so again in the future if something can be worked out

I have to ask... being a programmer since the past 20 or so years, and a web dev since the late 90s, knowing exactly how computationally demanding your forum, indexing service and torrent tracker is... why do you guys insist on running this on an expensive dedicated server instead of a reasonably performing VPS which costs just a fraction?

Take a look at the VPS offers on hetzner.de, edis.at, vr.org and ubiquityservers.com/cloud, just to mention a few, and see if it fits the envelope. You may not be able to raise the seemingly sky-high monthly fee for hosting this on a dedicated unit anymore, but donations to cover for a decent VPS shouldn't be much of a problem. Legally and from a privacy perspective, serving this up from a VPS should be no different than from a dedicated unit - let's be realistic, it's not like PRQ haven't been raided before.

Please let us users know what has been on your mind regarding moving the platform.

edit: thanks to whoever reported this post, for whatever reason you did so. Hope one of the admins/sysops gives us some feedback and heads up on their thoughts.
