So surprised that the coder was allowed to stay for so long there should have been multiple people doing it.

how can you rid the place of someone with knowledge of their own code, root access and no one else to replace them that knows the code enough to keep things ticking?  yes you can change root passwords (only tokol can do that now) but the issue of no coder remains.

If root was to be changed it would have happened by now.  Seems its a case of keeping a sinking ship afloat that little bit longer.

I have tried everything I can with the exception of phoning sniper and tbh, its not worth it.

Funny how some people have gone silent though

In all honesty you can throw cash at this issue but all that does is buy time and ffs the magic fairies aint coming and time aint gonna change a jot.

Please for the love of god someone step up, take charge and do something fukin pro active.

Thanks everyone for the long run.  I've been here quite sometime, even when my account got disabled when I was deployed I was still able to come back and create a new account.  Thanks to the current staff, former staff and the guys in the background for keeping the site around for as long as you did.  I will keep lingering around until this site revives itself just like I still linger around and wait for ftwr.  I do believe when I left the irc xdcc warez channels and when nxsecure died this was my first torrent site I joined up with. This one has remained my number one for a long time.  Good luck to everyone and hopefully someone comes up with a excellent idea on this sad situation.  Until then I will definitely be on the alternate forums.

The only way would be complete lock out, take site down completely have code inspected (or scrapped depending on depth of possible backdoors).

Data is the main concern as long data is preserved then restoration can be done, if it cant then lost cause.

I recently had to inspect a large code base (100,000 lines+) at work due to someone left and put a few little nasties in there. It can be done and it is time consuming but it needs commitment which could be months.

With the loyalty this site has gained over the years people will wait months and still come back.

Me and Green spoke shortly after this was announced and I offered to help and that still stands however one man can't do this alone and I am sure there are other with the skills that can help (also be trusted), which i hope the time I have been here and TB even thou I don't speak out much that I could be included in that.

The torrents are all draining away...
Never did get Game of Thrones S03... (Don't warn me for that please!!!! :winkkiss: )

i still dont get it £1 per person pays for about a years worth of access

and well said:

And the removal of some power hungry staff members wouldn't have gone a miss. When I fust joined staff in the early days none of us were above the users and we kept to the same rule set. We didn't bend the rules to our favour or deliberately dangle carrots in front of users knowing they would take the bait and we could ban them :-(

There was a lot of that going on the last few years and banning people for no reason and generally being assholes

its a shame it made a mark in such a good site

Thank you TB for this time!

I want to thank all the staff, old and new.. except those who didn't let this place thrive even more. I guess the other guys in the staff knows who they are. This was a place for me to check what was up, didn't even need any nforce or other sites to see if something was released. Stuff here worked, every single time, OR just got fixed real quick.

I regret that in recent months I dl'd less and less, uploads seemed to be way too spefic. I am no coder, I can do some stuff for my own blogs or something like that, but ever since I heard about the irc channel between torrentbits dying and torrentbytes being born, I wished I could do wonders with code. This site here is the only place in the internet I ever wished I could do more for. ( I did work as a forum main admin for few years but mainly heavy moderation work)

Hard to get that 8+ years of feeling of belonging to something again. That's at least 8+ years from now anyway.

Thanks for the staff, thanks for the uploaders... And thanks for the people still figuring out how to salvage stuff from this.. And I guess best parts of TBy is (at this point) ... the people loving and wanting to care for it. So, thanks for alternative forum too, much appreciated.

Really quite surprising - no real staff / admin around and very little rule-breaking going on.

Wonder what we'd have to do to get a last-minute ban around here.

(I'm too chicken to find out...)

I'll miss you guys.

As long as people don't resort to disguised requests!!!

Mate i would be 100% behind anyone trying to save this site, first the site has to be saved from itself and for that to happen root needs changed and people need locked out.  Only tokol can do that, bill runs out shortly but i suspect it will get paid and hope to fuck whoever pays it has the sense to do as has been said.  Otherwise your just bankrolling another month for the site to be up and some false king to sit on the throne.  I 100% know tokol is trying his best and being pulled in 100 different directions. Ultimately the decision is in the hands of the owner.  Just please for the love of god dont waste cash on prolonging, move forward please. I live in hope that someone mans up and takes control with people supporting them, without that no one can do anything.

This sucks so much.. This was my absolute favorite! and it doesn't help that I still have 2+ TBs left on my Ratio(not that important). Thank you TBy and TByers! It has been a blast... Cheers and I hope that TBy will rise again in the future!

Do you "BoB" want to take over as admin over TorrentBytes? Is that possible?

#1537509 by Pillzbury (Power User) at 2013-07-25 23:08:57 (2 days ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

For torrent action, I would recommend a few private trackers.  I can not invite you to any of these, so do not ask.  I am only recommending them because I believe them to be the very best.  You'll have to find your own information on how to get in to them.  Most of them have an invite channel buried on IRC somewhere.  If you get into one and become a power user+ you can get an invite to the rest easily.  Also, due to different rules on each site, I will only be posting abbreviations of their names.  Google is your friend if you aren't already hip to the info.

Movies:
PTP-  Great tracker, LOTS of movies.  Sorted by title, IMDB link, actor, director, etc.  Fairly easy to maintain a ration.  Runs on Gazelle.

Music:
What-  Excellent source of music.  Very hard to gain or maintain ratio.  Occasional freeleech helps. Runs on Gazelle.
Waffles- I hear it's comparable to What, but easier to maintain ratio.  I am not a member.

TV:
BTN-  The end all be all of TV trackers.  RATIOLESS, minimum seed times instead of ratio.  Absolutely the best tracker for television.  Gazelle based

General:
IPT- Scene releases, TBDev based tracker.  Good pre-times, p2p content.  Extremely easy to maintain ratio.

Porn:
Fux0r-  minimum seed time of 72 hours per torrent.  Wide range of content.  Easy to maintain ratio. Too easy.

ebooks/audiobooks:
MyAM-  This mouse has most everything you could want.  Their BP system is very poorly weighted allowing you to gain thousands of points to exchange for ratio.  My ratio there is almost 1500!

eLearning:
thegeekz- Easy to maintain.  Great community. Weekly freeleech on staff picks.

Comicbooks:
Comicbt-  Ratio system is weird.  Basically, you have to have enough ratio to complete a torrent or it wont let you get the torrent file.  Easy to maintain though, grab some freeleech torrents (of which there are many) and build up a small buffer.

Good luck getting in, but like I said, once you're in one, you can get to the rest.  Especially if you get into one of the first 4.

I want TBy to continue and improve, I have been admin before so if i could help and keep this site secure and help move forward of course I would help, really though its new fresh leadership that's needed.  But if I can do anything I will.

edit: just to add faced with a choice I would opt for "I would rather not, and have someone else fix it all and do a brill job", I got stale and started to take stuff personal.

Would have to disagree with BTN being the best out there but the ones i consider better im not naming lol

Waffles is my go to over what, both tend to have the same though, very minor differences, both great.

The ones you want are the ones you need to sell your first born and soul to get an invite for, stupidly hard to keep a decent ratio though as most have 1gbit seedboxes and up, although for a few yrs i did it on 45kb/s upload just had to be prepared to seed for months on end.

A private general tracker that's easy to get into is the big Russian one rutracker. It has 1 1/2 million torrents, and is right up there with Waffles behind What.cd for music. It's strong in rare movies and US sports, with English tracks along with Russian audio. A translator makes it easy to use. It's open often.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful place for all these years.  I've been around in various ways since the Torrentbits days, and have never gone anywhere else.

Wherever I end up, I sincerely hope that they have a Christmas Calendar every year like we had here!!  That was simply fantastic in every possible way!
