I have read over a few posts that there in in fighting? Why dont the admins/staff or who ever is fighting. Pull your finger out, your not bigger than the site, you're just the guardians of the site. Nothing more nothing less and you're making it fail.

How can other sites pay their sever costs with paypal and you're telling us you cant? Too many logins to the one paypal account? Easily sorted have one person who is in charge of paying the server costs. Limit the access to it

Pretty sad day when the site will be shut down for good.

All the best to the admins/moderators/uploaders and everyone who kept the site going for long.

...Last, but not least, a thankyou to these fine people: hOG, tokol, brohan, MissOneOneNine, JEFFSR, BabyLove, cRaZy, MaxthePuppy, Pethron. They all did something to make, at the very least, my experience here a great one.

Ah the good old days. This site was THE site to be on, and if you weren't, well you were on some wannabe. It's a shame the people that have been "running" this place can't even respond, but what could they really say? They've spent so much time keeping secrets, and are probably so shocked that there are people willing to step up that they don't know what to do.

It's what happens when you think you have what it takes, but really don't. Haven't done anything for years and it's sad that some of you think they'll do something now.

It's probably because they don't have the correct account type, therefore it keeps getting locked/frozen/whatever Paypal's calling it because no one will submit the documentation with their name on it (which has to be verified). That's why you run into all of these issues, since I can guarantee the site wasn't pulling in obscene amounts of donations to warrant anything else.

What is this talk about pulling code out, etc? How much bandwidth is the site using per month, I'm still trying to figure out why it costs so much to operate a site that doesn't actually host any of the downloadable files.

It's not only about hosting, it's also about covering your ass for as long as possible. Who actually knows where the site/database are actually hosted? :-O

------

Quote:

I don't own the domain...

Then this site is miffed, since anyone else is completely useless it seems...

Quote:

I'm not interested in running to new places. Also, I'm not interested in opening a completely new forum. Just remove the fucking tracker from this site, and move the forum as-is to a new host. It should be a walk in the park for any basic coder. Seriously, why aren't we getting any feedback on this?

Would make a little too much damn sense, wouldn't it? Would also means someone would have to do something...Good luck.

This could have all started months ago, this is what is frustrating.

Now we are left with a final minute rush to get shit sorted. Which is not looking good, I can't even get to the bottom of the server costs or server load.

The idea's put forward are all doable by the right people, my help would have to come from you all (the userbase) to help code and setup the hosting. Without the forum to ask for help, i'm fucked. A few people have offered but its a big task and would need everyone's input/help or I would end up destroying the site by playing/adding to things, trial and error coding by me is not going to be a smooth ride.

I don't want to go out without a fight, just don't be putting all your trust into me. I have idea's, I have no fucking clue how to sort it at a code/server level.

If not, looks like it wll be mass migration to torrentshack as Earwig has been so kind to open the doors.

Oh how I wish I'd gotten the chance to know you...

Quote:

Looks like the site costs are around 200 euro for just the forum to run!

Thanks for that info <3

Can we as a community find that amount for a site with no torrents?

We would be legal, paypal would have no fight with us while there is no illegal content and someone can legally put their name on the site without fear of being done for piracy. That does not bother me but to the current staff, there is no issue putting your name on the server bills now!

------------
That cost could probably be dropped to a bit over 1/4 of that if it's just a forum. It being legal and all. :-)

@ djinkyman: You would be correct.

---------

Quote:

right, we won't ever be given access to the code.

No one has the skills to remove the shit to hand it over, when I say shit, I mean staff secrets/forums.
BoB has a backup from a long time ago so that's not good for the forum content.
We won't get access to the host.
The domain is under fuck knows whose control.

The chances of this place carrying on are beyond slim, we need all this to carry on as we are.

It would need to be a new site and name, with a new host. We might as well migrate somewhere. I can't try anymore than I am doing, I can't pester Tokol anymore than I am (sorry Tokol) and Sniper is M.I.A.

Surprise, surprise, the visible one with access to the database is missing. All you would need is the forum and user database tables...not hard. Now if one of those coders could provide you with that is a different story.

Ah well...nap time. Keep asking questions though folks...they're great!

Maybe I should go on MythBusters...

Edit: I broke something with quotes, but you can figure it out...I think?

Don't have to assume when you know. It's ok. I don't expect you to though. "No offense" :giggle:

TorrentBytes Packs transfer upload in the future to Torrentshack?

thanks for info. :-)

TSH:

Ratio system:

Will have no ratio rules. This means no Upload counted, no download counted, and no hit'n'run rules.

We would also like to point out that in removing the ratio rules from the site we will Not be storing any Torrent history at all, this information is auto deleted after 24 hours. There will be no trace of what you have downloaded. Due to this we will have no control over what you seed and what you don't seed and so therefore will have to rely on your good hearts to seed as long as possible for the other users. We are hopeful with no history of your activities here it will encourage people to create more of a community.

In the coming weeks we plan on implementing extra security features that have never been done before, that would make us a little revolution in the Torrenting world. Access to these extra features would only be available via donating, or activity in the forums, or a combination of both.

Userclasses Alterations:

Newbie - The default of all new users
Active Member - 100GB Upload or 50 Forum Posts + 2 weeks Membership.
Family Member - 500GB Upload or 250 Forum Posts + 12 weeks Membership.
Elite - 1.5TB (1500GB) Upload or 750 Forum Posts + 1 Year Membership.
TorrentShack Addict - 4TB (4000GB) Upload or1,500 Forum Posts + 1.5 years Membership.

2005-02-01 19:28:59, that was some time ago.. But this was the sadest news since, ever! If there was any way of donating I could probably had fund this site alone, but I understand the amount of money people are willing to donate is not the issue. Many thanks to staff, uploaders and users for all these years!

Of course they're not. I don't understand how hosting a forum would cost so much. It's not like all 50k members would stick around.

The problem isn't hosting a forum, it's getting the userbase there. Creating a new forum will only get a few on there, so the general plan is to keep TB running as a forum (you know that already probably). Now because apparently, - Green figured that out -, nobody is either willing, capable, or trustworthy to strip the proper parts, and make it run on a cheaper machine. So the way I see it things are a bit stuck atm.

Doesn't mean we should give up though.

edit: clarified a sentence.

I wasn't talking about a new forum, of course, I'm not interested in that. I'm talking about keeping this one as-is. Therefor, I'm asking the question: why the high monthly costs for running a forum with about 5000 active members?

I was trying to explain that, unfortunately it's not one of my best traits.

The forum cán be kept running, however the people that are capable of taking the actions needed to do that aren't around at the moment. Now I understood that there are people that can give access to the code/database, but before that can happen some sensitive information needs to be removed from the staff/admin forums. Again, the people capable of doing so aren't around.

So Sniper just went M.I.A. (probably on holiday) without anyone knowing his return date? Well, as long as he shows up by the end of next week there's still a chance.

Torrentshack is probably (partially) inspired by TB, and I must say they're doing pretty well. Next best thing imo.

It will be a real shame to see TBy go, I've had some great times here!

Thanks to everyone who helped make TBy what it is today; a great place. Including all members and FLS, and a special thanks to the Staff that have worked tremendously hard to keep this place running over the years, and particularly during the recent months gone by.

I still hope a solution can be found and that we can somehow keep the TBy community alive!

Thanks & Take Care

I haven't been too active around these parts but I've been lurking.  I'd like to at least see the community stay together, torrents can be found elsewhere, I would consider it a bonus if they stayed or came back.

So far, the only person I've seen around here lately that's been here longer than me is Aterlatus.  I'll keep my eyes on this thread and others to make sure I move (or stay) with the group.
