I remeber racing with you in the early days ;-)

Made a great team back then

That was the good old days, wasn't it? I miss the racing and uploading quite a bit. But I doubt I have the spare time for it nowadays.

Wow... Long time no see ! How's things ?

I'm still good, haven't been really active writing in the forums though but I've always been around.

Sad to see that the site is probably dying, I dont have the resources I used to back in the day because I would almost do anything to keep the site up.

How are things going for you? Just noticed now that you had your own tracker, registered there yesterday hoping that some of the community will move on there if we can't solve this somehow.

It would be really weird if he didn't, this whole thing is nothing new.

If by going on you mean the problems we have been having these past months, yes If by currently going on then I don't know, but I don't think it is necessary either for what we are hoping to do. Know that we have considered to wipe the tracker and keep the forum before, but that we thought we'd find a way out first. Obviously that didn't happen and now we are here.. :/

To all of you looking for new homes: gtfo, you clearly don't care enough about this site. Go make a separate thread.

Remove the tracker, keep the forum as-is, with all the posts there. I'm not going to register on a blank forum with zero posts just because it will remind me of this site. I want the same people there, the same design and the same threads.

#1536654 by Green (Der Tommy) at 2013-07-22 12:31:35 (5 days ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

This could have all started months ago, this is what is frustrating.

Now we are left with a final minute rush to get shit sorted. Which is not looking good, I can't even get to the bottom of the server costs or server load.

The idea's put forward are all doable by the right people, my help would have to come from you all (the userbase) to help code and setup the hosting. Without the forum to ask for help, i'm fucked. A few people have offered but its a big task and would need everyone's input/help or I would end up destroying the site by playing/adding to things, trial and error coding by me is not going to be a smooth ride.

I don't want to go out without a fight, just don't be putting all your trust into me. I have idea's, I have no fucking clue how to sort it at a code/server level.

If not, looks like it wll be mass migration to torrentshack as Earwig has been so kind to open the doors.

Yes, I know I am a lurker but 8 years here and a bit more on bits is good enough for a little post.

Anyhow peeked into shack and it seemed a little too quiet on the HD area - may be this is the one who needs my 100/20 connection to flatter more people into 720 era (for me it is like if I have not seen it on movies and it is not 720+ I will not watch it). But on the other hand I do not like a site if I can't get at least 4-5 MB/s on a day old torrent (bytes has offered 10-11 ever since I got the my good connection). I got a nice over 1 TB buffer here, but who cares about that if the new content is not going to deliver any more... This site has always been my number one for new stuff and it does not matter for me if some of it was 5 mins or 5 days late...

If new site is called out for migration, then I am going to lurk on there. I like the quality of seeds generated by the people sunbathing here.

I hope I do not miss the migration/name change call out - if such a thing comes :-)

Oh and if you are calling out for a temp forum, then I think it would be wise to PM to every user pretty much now so they know where to sit out and get new info on new tracker.

I've nothing useful to offer at this unhappy time, so I'll just add my sincere thanks to all the Mods and Ops and numerous other unknown brainz who have made this place possible and kept it going against the odds for as long as they have.
Hasta la victoria siempre :che:

There's a tracker that's open now that's like a junior version of IPT, a place with over 300,000 torrents. If the people here can stand a site with no porn, I think the infusion of new members could make it an attractive place. Now they have over 52,000 torrents.

Looks like the site costs are around 200 euro for just the forum to run!

Thanks for that info <3

Can we as a community find that amount for a site with no torrents?

We would be legal, paypal would have no fight with us while there is no illegal content and someone can legally put their name on the site without fear of being done for piracy. That does not bother me but to the current staff, there is no issue putting your name on the server bills now!

Mostly lurker too, small amounts donated a few times.
Thanks for the great 8 years and a few more before with torrentbits.

Who the fuck is the Admin over there ?

Seems he is asking for everyone to Join TorrentLeech which has always been known as a Pay2Leech site making people buy their ratio's and earning them a huge fat wallet in the process....

Goes against everything this site has ever stood for ? What gives ?

Then we have payperVIP over at your site as well mate, that goes against everything this site stood for as well. That is your site and rules, that is up to you but we are still suggesting people go your place with its payper benefits. No offence meant, just showing they are slightly the same.

Guess i'll be removing that link then.

It was setup the last time this place was going to shit, its happened so many times I can't remember exactly what time that was.

I'll speak to BoB about the twitter account, that will have to be the only legit way to contact staff here if the doors shut and announcements needs to be made.

BoB wrote:

At this point for the future security of torrentbytes I suggest that
both Sniperfin and VBG step aside from staff and the current staff
allow a few of us who are willing to keep the site alive to take over
and work towards a realistic soloution.  This cannot be done however
while Sniperfin and VBG remain on staff.  The negativity created by
both these staff members has caused enough damage to torrentbytes and
the community.  This is a decision which is simple, close TBy or let
others step in and give their best shot at keeping this site alive.  I
may not be able to make any gaurentee's, however at least the users
will be kept up to date on issues and be part of any decisions related
to the future of the site.

This is a decision that will need to be made now and not at the 11th
hour.  I think in the grand scale of things we all want the same and
that is to keep this community and site alive.  So I ask that the
current decision makers cast aside their egos and do what is best for
TBy as a whole and not what is best for them.

If someone is currently absent then the need of the site comes first,
hand the site over and we will make that decision.

Apparently you don't have a clue how much it takes then, not only is the site run across 2(+) servers it actually takes more than you seem to understand, if a VPS was to work do you not think people would use that? And lets not forget a VPS is shared, if a Kimsufi 2g dedi server was enough to run it, do you not think that would be done on every site instead of these torrent sites using multiple servers for hosting, tracker, database? Maybe you were a programmer 20 yrs ago? It seems you need to come up to the current day, trackers like this and bigger have to use multiple servers. That was a laughable read though. thanks.

No I'm actually a living, breathing and money-earning programmer today, and have been one consistently since the early 90s. As for your guesses about my perspective of the performance requirements in this specific topic... I've actually written a torrent tracker in Perl, as a small exercise to see how apt the web-based model was after taking a small peek at TBSource. I've also written a simple, very bare bones tracker in C, similar to OpenTracker, yet not quite rich in features. Pretty much anything in terms of web applications in PHP, Perl, Python and a bit of Ruby (with whatever DBMS might be attached for whatever purpose) happens to be what I mostly do for a living these days, so I'm quite versed in exactly "how much it takes" on the tracker end of things, just as I am on the indexer and forum end of the topic.

I also thank you for your wild speculations, and I promise I didn't take a word of what you said to heart - I never take the illiterate computer world equivalent of a "muscle car enthusiast" too serious

Totally different things. People do not get free download privelages or GB added to their accounts. We do not effectively "Sell" the releases which these other sites do.

In any case my site is not the issue here, the issue at hand is keeping this community together, either on the forums here or elsewhere I guess.

But if you look at the post in question I am sure you will agree it blatently asks you to buy shit from their affiliate server company.... Someone had to make that dude an Admin there ?

On a site trying to keep this one alive it's the LAST thing you need to see. People taking liberties in order to deepen their pockets at the expense of this userbase.....

Only sites using TBDev + 5 years ago had it crossed over 2 servers
site on 1, tracker on second.
Why do TBy still have that, well coz they are still using old HW.
most sites use 1 powerful server if they are using tbdev.

if they are using gazelle they use 1 server for everything, dont need to be powerful either, strange

I know, that's why I meant no offence just pointing something out.

I don't want to see people ripped off, that's happened to many times to the users here! Twitter it will have to be if the forum is scamming.
