Calling a console a PC is daft. Differences go way beyond upgradeability and have to do with what you can do with a console vs a PC. The gap is pretty big with consoles being only entertainment devices and PCs general purpose machines that can also act like entertainment devices. A PC can replace/supercede a console. A console cannot replace a PC.
It's also perfectly reasonable to compare consoles with PCs in respect to their graphical prowess as both can act as the gaming machine of choice. Compraisons have been made countless times before and are going to be done in the future. What are you complaining about ?
Calling a console a PC is daft because it's not really a peronsal computer. But It is a computer. So you are comparing two computers. And again, one computer can't be upgraded while the other can. So it's silly to even start comparing the two (how are you not geting this?). PC has had all of those features for years now. That's why I don't see the PS4 as "oooh woow thats awsome" since it doesn't really impress me because I have a gaming computer that I upgrade every year.
But sure, people still want to compare apples with pears. Doesnt mean its not stupid. A console could never compare to a PC, even for a month.
But then again, a console fan is gonna come around and say "Noooo sure you can compare and my thing is better because I own it atm".
So now we're moving goal posts just so it can fit your argument, ok. Yes, a console is a type of a computer but you specifically called it a PC which as you said yourself is daft. Glad we're on the same page here.
So because one computer is crippled and can't be modified I cannot count that as a flaw compared to the other one ? How stupid is THAT ? If you're gonna choose a gaming platform are you not going to compare every single feature each of the platforms has, like for example upgradeability ? Seriously ? Are you also suggesting that notebooks cannot be compared to desktop PCs jus because they're not fully upgradeable ? Wouldn't you agree that a feature like upgradeability would actually be part of a COMPARISON between the two options ? You know like: do I go with portability or the ability to upgrade whenever I like. Doesn't that sound like something you would do when choosing which product suits you better ?
On the other hand if you have a game that's available on both platforms ( PC and consoles ) are you not going to compare which version will give you more for your money like better visuals, more/exclusive content, lower cost, less problems etc. ? Really, you're gonna stand on principle and say you can't do it cause the console can't be upgraded ? THAT is stupid.
If both platforms play the SAME games it's perfectly reasonable to compare which of them do it better. How can you not see that ?
I'm not saying one platform is inherently better than the other but to sit there and say you can't compare them is just beyond me.
Looking forward to see what M$ got to show, but will most likely buy a ps4 had all other playstations and doubt im gonna skip this one as for exclusive games worth getting im sure we gonna see something, i can almost be 99% sure they are working on the next Uncharted which we all know is gonna be exclusive.
We just need to wait for E3 where we finally will get to see the actual machine and i doubt sony wont have major companys show off games running straight on the hardware.
I'll be sticking with the PS4. The share button seems cool and the fact you can watch other people or ask for help is cool too.
The instant boot up and playing games half downloaded does not really matter to me.
I heard rumours they are going to start charging for online. If its a yearly subscription ill be okay with it but if its based on a per hour thing, it will be annoying.
I find it funny the console v pc crap. Reminds me of all the Iso v android arguments.
Swing and a miss - I own a PS3. Do some background check before you start calling people names
what you on about i was not even talking about you nore did i read your posts
My mistake then. Move along
back on topic
sony have done us all a favour by jumping the gun with a pretty good show.
microsoft will be pulling out all the stops to counter the ps4 in april, its going to be one good fight and at the end of the day its only a good thing for us gamers.
Who knows maybe the next xbox will be even more powerful than the ps4 hence why sony jumped the gun
God, enough with this damn social interaction bullshit! Who really gives a damn!? It's all about the games themselves!
Tell me about it, it's like they all want to do is rent us games and then sell information about our habits and interactions with other people. Gots to earn them dolla bills somehow.
Wanted to post a few days ago, but didn't get to it, anyway.
I'm happy to see that there might finally be some games on them that were possible on PCs 5+ years ago using DX11, physics, better lighting models and sporting big worlds.
Anyway, so much to the good part, the rest of it was full of buzzword-bingo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jeM0ENR6rI and some of the worst and most consumer-denigrating shit I've ever heard.
First their insistence on "Cloud gaming", which is a buzzword for shit streamed over the Internet instead of doing it properly, which for some people apparently doesn't even yet go far enough.
That shit absolutely has to die in a fire similar to how OnLive did or worse, or we as consumers will be collectively fucked. It opens the door for all kinds of crap, if you thought they go out of their way with practices like DLC, Pre-Order features, Always-On DRM and the likes nowadays just wait till they can make you pay for every hour to play a game or for specific features. The concept of "DLC" and "Microtransaction" would also become obsolete, since by only being able to Stream a game, the entirety of it can be "DLC". They can even make people pay for stuff like graphics options, or try to re-establish the "Arcade"-model where you paid for a few lives. In-game Advertising (or between game play sessions e.g. every half an hour or whatever) would also be a real possibility. Put short, if people give these kinds of services the green light they give the platforms holders and publishers the entire power and control and they themselves as consumers remain with nothing.
Then they've got the (Real name)-Online services and "Social Features" that they lauded so fervently, including integration and being able to share even more with your friendly neighborhood Facebook (as if they didn't already know enough) in a "permanently-connected" life as they put it:
They also talked about the "Share"-Button on the controller, with which you can immediately share content and upload it to your Facebook or with the press of a button start a UStream Live Stream of you playing, including face cam through that "PlayStation Eye" periphery that they are using. Another feature it had was Login via "face recognition" and it also sports and microphone-array inside.
The other thing was their focus on "online", they fell just short of saying that their console is "Always-Online" (which the NextBox is rumored to be), but from all they've said I got the impression that they weren't exactly that far away from doing that themselves. "Like PS4, Destiny is an online, connected experience."
Another thing they haven't directly said was the prevention of "used games", which to me kind of sounded like a cop-out or rather like them saying, "no, we won't prevent you from doing so, but you'll likely have to register them to your account, and then good luck doing that" similar to how Steam or similar services handle it.
It all just made me want to puke all over it. Another "console generation" where I'd rather put 500€ down on a graphics card I might not really need instead of getting a console or two.
Well, that's a dealbreaker! (the whole social thing) The only way I see myself purchasing a playstation 4 anytime soon is if the last guardian turns out to be on the same level as shadow of the colossus (and does in fact not come out for playstation 3)
Why is that a good article? Did not find a single written sentence that would give any information just some speculation by CVG.
And after this sentence
CVG wrote:
Sony initially said the PS3 was an immensely powerful system that could change the colour of the sun whilst checking your emails, and look what happened to that.
we can pretty much all agree on that CVG knows nothing about console hardware at all.
It has been known for several years now that the CELL cpu in the PS3 is indeed very powerful and even today it is a very fast CPU able to do wonders what it is designed for. Only problem was that it was very hard to work with and when game designers made multi platform titles they could not work with the CELL directly only utilizing a very small proportion of its true power. Hence games like Call of Duty looks and runs like shit while PS3 exclusives made by Naughty Dog looks and runs really good.

....ok
never said it was fact
but in your reply you agree with what they said about the cell
but its an article not political statement nore 100% true fact...just an article.
I like how games from PS3 won't be playable on PS4. So you have to keep both if you want to play games from older gen console. Yea PS$ owns!
Almost every console I ever owned did the same.
As for the online thing, its probably there to stop people from cracking games. Also, look at how popular Steam is and how it would of got a lot of people from piracy to paying a monthly subscription.
I also find it funny how people say "if you can pirate games or crack it, I won't buy it". I don't really think your the market their after anyway.

Well, you acctually could play ps1 and ps2 games on ps3. You also could play some xbox games on xbox360. You could even play gamecube games on wii if you had controler and memory card from gamecube and you probably will be able to play them on wii u if they will implement online feature of this kind, tho it's work in progress. I don't even own any kind of console and i know that. It kinda makes me wonder which consoles you own/owned?

You do know that it would be 800 usd launch price like it was with PS3 all over again if they included PS3 hardware to accommodate backwards compatibility. PS3 doesn't have compatibility for PS2 games except the early models since they needed to get the price down. And since they are changing architecture from cell to x86, the emulation of PS1 and PS2 (which is used now in PS3) goes to trash too.
Tbh th backwards compatibility things doesn't really bother me.
If you have a half decent pc then you can run the ps2 emulator, even my shitty laptop plays psx games with ease.
In an interview with MCV, Eidos co-founder and president Ian Livingston talked about the next-gen console from Microsoft, and hinted that it will require internet connectivity and will feature watermarked discs that block used games:
“So they’ve gone halfway,” he added, giving the example of Microsoft’s supposed next-gen approach, “With the next Xbox, you supposedly have to have an internet connection, and the discs are watermarked, whereby once played on one console it won’t play on another. So I think the generation after that will be digital-only.”
If thats the truth M$ gonna get there ass kicked, i would never buy such a console, but lets hope its just roumers was some about ps4 also going that way but its not thanks god.
I know there is plenty of electrical junk lovers and they will just love to switch from PS4 to PS3 over and over again just to play some game, but i'm not that kind of guy. Also Watermarked discs? Wow! Now that's just fun overkill on DRM. I wonder how much games gonna cost...

Then its game over for MS no one in there right mind would buy a console with such restrictions.
Think plenty of people wouldnt care about waterproofed discs or whatever, and developers might feel inclined to produce exclusives for such a system since it would make their profits alot bigger if people didn't buy and sell second hand. Making that system even more enticing.
Who buys games second hand anyway? As a PC-gamer I buy all my games digital...
