There is only one reason for his retirement and we all know it's not the cane, it's the catholic church trying to escape the heat coming from pedofile priests. The current californian case was the tipping point and since this pope is heavily involved on covering up the pedofile priests (before he was a pope, he was the head of the office which task was to address molestation cases aka cover them up), it will be in the interest of the church to let him go before the trial starts.

Californian case is so big and has so much publicity in usa that it will go to court (they already had to give all the internal records considering this event, even they tried to fight that on court but in the end they were forced to hand out the records which shows horrible rapes going on. A priest was fucking kids and forced them to watch porn from internet while he was fucking them, etc.)
This pope will be one of the key people and they have calculated that it would be best if he resigns before the shit hits the fan. Perhaps they even hope that him resigning will get them easier time in the court.
Perhaps they even say that he can't testify or he can't be asked any questions because he is in so bad shape, he can't remember things etc. Thats why he resigned.

Have you heard about the vicious attack of the Croatian catholic against the secular government and it's atempt to introduce fact based sex education to public schools?

Recently they even brought Judith Reisman from USA to talk in our parlament about how sex ed actually promotes paedophilia. Now they are treatning to sue the news reporters who wrote that this homophobic hatemongering pseudoscientist should not be allowed to smear the dignity of our parlament with her presence.

They are very well organized and funded. I think Vatican wants to spread it's influence in our soon to be youngest EU member country and use it as a beachhead for future atacks agains secularism in Europe.
