I think political stability has allow the power structures in all our countries to solidify and all government becomes oppressive given enough time.

Maybe be you are right but nevertheless we should be worry
because if those power structure  will solidify to much ,up to crystallization, we will be f*cked ...all of us.I don`t understand why people from the democratic countries looks so jaded when the basic principles of democracy are broken ...and those principles are broken by those who were elected by us and pay by us to respect and ensure democracy.

29 boarding school students burned alive, shot dead by Islamist militants in Nigeria
Islamic militants attacked a boarding school in northeast Nigeria before dawn Saturday, killing 29 students and one teacher. Some of the pupils were burned alive in the latest school attack blamed on a radical terror group, survivors said.

Parents screamed in anguish as they tried to identify the charred and gunshot victims.

Farmer Malam Abdullahi found the bodies of two of his sons, a 10-year-old shot in the back as he apparently tried to run away, and a 12-year-old shot in the chest. "That's it, I'm taking my other boys out of school," he told The Associated Press as he wept over the two corpses. He said he had three younger children in a nearby school.

"It's not safe," he said. "The gunmen are attacking schools and there is no protection for students despite all the soldiers." Survivors at the Potiskum General Hospital and its mortuary said gunmen attacked Government Secondary School in Mamudo village, 3 miles from Potiskum town at about 3 a.m. Saturday.

The gunmen are believed to be from the Boko Haram sect whose name means "Western education is sacrilege."

I have flown from L.A. to Sao Paulo on Korean Airlines with the same model Boeing.
12 hours @ 50K feet and indicated air speed of 600 and 13 hours to return (150 headwind @ 50K feet).

These guys hit the levee before the marked landing area.

As for SFO (the airport) they average 11.166 arrivals per hour daily averaged out...and more land/take off during the peak hours.

San Francisco 777 Crash: Why Did So Many Passengers Evacuate With Bags?

Quote:

At least one man interviewed in the New York Times indicated that he grabbed his bags and then his child. In that order. All I can say is that it was very fortunate that the fire was slow to spread.
...
Of all the aircraft accidents I have investigated or am familiar with, this is the first where it appears significant numbers of people took their belongings with them in escaping.

I told you it was not trauma it was pure unbridled materialistic selfishness that is not at all common amongst plane crash survivors.

*edit* btw this was part of a discussion we had in random pics about this picture when I pointed out how amazing messed up it was so many people seemed to have taken their carry on bags...

Meanwhile back in Ohio...

Newcomerstown to allow guns on school property

Quote:

The group, calling itself the Parent Safety Committee, cited a New York Daily News report that stated, “With a single exception, every multiple-victim public shooting in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed since at least 1950 has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry their own firearms.”

The committee contended there was a need to “get rid of gun-free zones” such as schools, where no one is armed to combat an attack by an outsider.

Aussie restaurateur Paul Mathis invents new letter of the Alphabet
(you have to check the link for the actual letter because it wont display here for some reason)

Quote:

Aussie restaurateur, Paul Mathis has invented a new letter of the alphabet to replace the word "the" because he thinks it is more efficient.

The letter looks like if an upper case T and a lower case h were to have a typographic baby, this is what it would look like.

Mathis has invested $38,000 into developing the symbol which he would like to see added as a 27th letter of the alphabet.

Id go along with it, why not?

*edit* here is a pic...

It's tough to comprehend how 1/3 of all teenagers are obese.  There was ONE fat chick in my graduating class, and she was teased mercilessly.   I'd assume it's from computers/video games.

Finnish minister wants Old Testament laws

I have a feeling even this "controversial study" has been thoroughly whitewashed so it hides behind economic outcomes with no mentions of other "factors".
