The only thing more outrageous and horrible than the whole scandal and the US government acting like that is that, come the next news cycle, this will all be forgotten, all the internet fury will dissipate, the men in power will stay in power, and nothing will ever come out of it.

This.

That depends on who is in charge.  Obama is the medias choice, regardless of his thug tactics and authoritarian administration, they will cover for him.  Bush, for example, would be crucified endlessly.  Obama could eat a baby's face off on live tv and there would be excuse after excuse for why that's ok, and that anybody who spoke against it is a racist.

The problem is they are screwed with this latest scandal since they normally sit on it and wait for FOX or Drudge to break it so they can insert that "rightwing agenda" angle when they finally report on it. The Guardian is a even more influential and respected leftist newspaper than the NYT so that cant spin it like they want so you can expect the most epic of character assassinations of Snowden in modern media history, it will make those rape charges against Assange seem like a parking ticket. The simple fact that he went to a British newspaper than an American one speaks volumes.

A dog has been hailed a hero for saving the life of a newborn girl who had been slung into a rubbish dump.

The animal, a Thai Bangkaew called Pui, discovered the child inside a plastic bag at the roadside tip in Bangkok.

He carried the bag in his mouth to his owner Gumnerd Thongmak's house and barked loudly to get his attention.

Syrian rebels execute teenage boy for "polytheism"
"The SOHR said witnesses claim Qataa got into an argument at a coffee stand where he worked in the Sh’ar neighborhood of Aleppo. He was overheard saying: "Even if the Prophet Mohammad comes down (from heaven), I will not become a believer."  His words caught the attention of members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria who kidnapped Qatta. They then brought him back to the stall late on Sunday night with whiplash marks on his body.

According to the report published by the SOHR, one of the members of the group addressed the crowd and said: “Generous citizens of Aleppo, disbelieving in God is polytheism and cursing the prophet is polytheism. Whoever curses even once will be punished like this.”

"He then fired two bullets from an automatic rifle in view of the crowd and in front of the boy's mother and father, and got into a car and left," the report said.

Islamic extremists jailed for up to 19 years each in the UK
"A judge slammed the ‘tide of freely available extremist material’ found on the internet as he jailed six terrorists for a total of almost 120 years yesterday.

Nicholas Hilliard QC said the gang were fuelled by a torrent of graphic imagery as they plotted a revenge attack on a Right-wing rally.

The men amassed a huge haul of violent ideological material before their bungled attack on an English Defence League demonstration."

As it turns out, humans possess the ability to tell who's a criminal and who's not simply by looking at them because criminals look different from noncriminals.

I would say that in this case it's pretty obvious.

That would be islamofobia, a word which every politician/person in public don't want to be assosiated with.
The power of this invented imaginary word is limitless, as we once again witness.
