Well, I guess I can afford to rent DVD's instead of downloading them, but there isn't anny good video stores ner by and all movies are old when they come to the store. I whant to be able to watch them at home when they are avalible at the cinima, not ½year later...

It's not that the majority of us are necessarily POOR, it's just that things are WAAAY to damn expensive and there is NO reason anyone should overpay for software/games/movies etc.

Time is the big deal for movie.
Compare to the USA, I have to wait 6 months or 1 year to see the movie in DVD's shop....

Okay. I'm poor and i cannot effor games which i wanna buy. But for the games which I like i can buy them. You should also know how much programmers are spending on development of games. I've vote for It costs too much.

Btw, there is another reason why i download, if i download i have the stuff much earlier most of the time. I live in the Netherlands and most things get released in america while we in Europe have to wait longer.
i live in the netherlands so i have to buy the indo to get me in shape... its not downloadable you know

the things i dl here are not outh for months or will never get released, thats why, and i have a limited amount to spend. dl is anice feeling to but the best one is to share..... is't it wonderfull that you can share your joy? i think it's great =D
I just dont have money to buy all the stuff i would want. (among things here of course)
Pc games are so expensive, that i could maybe afford one every month.
DVD's are not so expensive, but the latest ones are. Only movies that are like a year old has
a prize i can take.
But hey,you should help the poor anyways...so why not give us warez?

and i have always thought that life in old EUROPE is good and easy. but you dont have ¤¤¤ too
also, lack of avability is very good reason not for buying movies and games

Costs waaay too much for the average person over here, including me. Sometimes I do want to buy since I really like the game, but then the availability problem occurs since games arrive pretty late over here, some never do. So my only choice is to download.
#142689 by unknown[16624] at 2005-04-03 17:11:52 (8 years ago) - [Report]
I mostly download things that I know I'm not going to buy - that doesn't mean they're not good (otherwise I wouldn't download them - unlike some weirdos). Sometimes I download things to try them out because demos never give to a really good idea of what you're going to get. I have money, but I don't have money to waste... it's all about whether a product represents value for money to me.
Anything I buy is likely to be of very high quality, such as an album where I like 90%+ of the songs a lot, a game that I'm going to get months worth of play out of or an application that I really, really need. DVD's are different, I don't tend to download them unless it's something that isn't commercially available to me in this country... my girlfriend & I have a subscription to LoveFilm and tend to buy anything that we're going to watch over & over again.
I think that since filesharing hit the big time the quality of some products has really improved. If it wasn't for napster & kazaa I don't think iTunes etc. would exist (even if it is too expensive), many more artists release better quality albums now (rather than a few good tracks and some fillers), games companies are spending more money & time on making quality games. The film industry has a lot to learn though, they need to spend more time on the quality DVDs & stop ripping consumers off... if it wasn't for online retailers like Play.com I would buy any DVDs at the highstreet prices.

It's not the fact that I'm poor or whatever, It's just the fact that the producers get more than the Artists. The RIAA MPAA BAF etc. all those fuckers get cash out of this and price the stuff way too high. I mean, on iTunes I can get an album for what? 10 euros? Why should i pay 22 euros in the store then. If I could get a CD w/ cover etc for like 14 euros or so, I'd have a shitlist of albums here, bought and stacked. Now I only have the ones i REALLY want, mostly limited editions, or the ones on Sale that i wanted for a long time.

I download games to try them out. If they are realy good and don't bore soon I buy it half a year after it's release when it is only 1/5 of it's original price.
For music. What the hell am I going to do with a cd? I never listnen to cd's. I have a mp3 player and I have winamp connected to my stereo. Maybe I would buy a cd once in a while if it included an mp3 verion.
For dvd's im a worthless piece of shit I guess. I copy every dvd I hire and share them with my friends. Most films I just download. I'm not going to justify this (altough some actors make a abnormal amount of money).

I voted:
It costs too much...
And realy, DVD's and other software cost a little too much...
the main reason i could say it costs to much but the real reason is why should i pay for it when i can get it for free ( do buy some stuff and do go to the cinema )
i dont buy ANY music albums due to i listen to ALOT of music and i rarely listen to an album more than a couple ov times and that doesnt justify the £10 i would pay for it

The poll needs an "I can afford it but I´m too cheap" option.

There's way too much crap out on the market and I'm not going to spend $40 for a game that gives me 3 hours of entertainment or less - I can get 3 hours of entertainment for $20 or less elsewhere. Although I may actually purchase a copy of Windows XP sometime - the cost is absolutely horrendous (I think $200 is gouging for an operating system especially since there are others that are absolutely free and just as good - read Gentoo and SuSE Linux) - even after three years of it being on the market. Even Windows 2000 Pro is absolutely horrendous pricewise and it's been out for six years (if my memory is correct it was released February 99 - it might've been 00 I forget) - but I'll buy a copy of it because it's a damned good operating system.
The last game I bought and actually enjoyed was Half-Life 2 and I didn't actually buy it - I received a free copy of it with the purchase of my Radeon 9600XT back in November 03. The last game I bought was Battlefield Vietnam and we all know how worthless those 3 CDs were. I doubt I'll be buying any Starforce-protected games, even if I like the title. I won't be buying any Metallica albums either, although I absolutely love their style. (Metallica's drummer made a big deal about MP3s back in 99 and that's what helped cause all this filetrading horseshit)
