is it too early to change the title of this thread?
"New Show: Falling Skies! DO NOT WATCH !" ?
+1
Against my better judgment and in risk of severely damaging my brain, I'm gonna watch E03 and see if they can make it even worse xD If they keep it up, i guess this might be the new weekly nr 1 comedy!
Lol...okay so yesterday I had that quality time moment. I had my beer ready, sat on the couch fired up my mediaplayer...scrolled to the first episode of falling skies and wanted to press play. But what did I see......this greatly anticipated tv show had a rating of 6.8.... "that can not be right"....so I thought my mediaplayer did not sync correctly...I browsed to IMDB and in my horror I saw the rating....
So in stead of starting with this tv show i continued with a couple of episodes of justified....Now I assumed that it would be great and I have two questions....
1. What is so bad about it?
2. Because Steven Spielberg is the producer I thought this would be awesome....But now my question is what does a producer actually do? Can he tell the director to do a scene differently or change the story? OR is he just there for funding?
too many plot holes to explain away...terrible scripts...mediocre acting.....
That about sums it up.
You could forgive any one of these things, but all three together just makes the show dull and painful to watch.
This will definitely be cancelled once the first 8 shows have been aired.
considering the writer for this show wrote the script for 'saving private ryan' makes it even more disappointing.

The producer is like an overall manager for a project getting all the individual parts working together (writing, funding, casting, filming and promotion) and usually has a lot of creative input, working alongside the director most of the time. Spielberg though has a reputation these days for lending his name and using his contacts without putting in much creative input to the finished project.

Thank you guys for the replies.
Too bad Steven Spielberg is not involved and even a bigger disappointment that the show is bad even though it was written by the same lad who wrote Saving private ryan (did not even know that).
and now "and still not even close to being on par with the level of stupidity now being expressed on True Blood"....this is worrying me because that was next on my todo list for tonight.....thanks verybadguy

Did you perhaps like Buffy as well?
Check out the thread where Qbert compares the two and shows how crappy True Blood has become

i think maybe, possibly, hopefully, what and heres wishful thinking, this show could well have going for it, is the fact, that like myself, there are people out there WANTING this show to get better. We can all see the potential and we'll keep watching till it's fulfilled or we're just plain disappointed!!!! Either way, we'll keep watching
hmmm I think most people would disagree as it actually focused on the Aliens and furthering what little there is of a plot.. and not on a gang of racist survivalists....but hey that's just me.

Feels like theyre still introducing us to the plot.. but its kinda obvious, gerilla armies in war with alien, OMG HOW DO WE STOP THESE SKITTERS!?!?
Better yet to ask the question "If you are banned on the Internet....does anybody hear you scream other than your mother whose basement you are living in?
Worse in that all the "moments" between characters that was meant to be really deep and important, just felt wooden, cliché.. just shit. Also, the aliens feel completely uninteresting, if they'd built em up over a couple of eps, i might have cared, when they showed them in the first few minutes of the first episode.... blah. No buildup at all, just, oh right some ugly 6 legged aliens..... uhh? And now what, last part of the ep.. telepathic powers/hi-tech link to the zombie kids? Really? Überhightech interstellar aliens using nanotechnology (maybe) to control the kids... and they still can't track a big glowy heatball of humans down :/

Agreed. The show is terrible. The show is not about the sci-fi but rather about the people. So this is a drama with an exterior conflict.
