I've got sufficient supplies, can I build a portel to the nether that works?
I read that on the server side some changes needed to be made.

You can turn "hell: on" but that would make the whole server into the nether, and there would be no normal world.

Be aware that Bukkit (Or minecraft server software itself) Has a bit of an issue that's come to light recently.

Certain chunks of the map are reset. I have no idea what causes this, but I am co-operating with the Bukkit devs to attempt to solve this problem.

(You may have noticed this on the skyway)

EDIT: A new build has been released, claiming to fix the issue...

We shall see how the matter progresses.

Something causes its data to become corrupt.

The server detects this. But the only way it knows to fix it is to delete the chunk, and replace it with a new one.

The Bukkit Devs think it's because of mobspawners, and implemented a fix in build #141

EDIT: No chunk corruption/resets have happened since I updated... but you never know.

Report it to me if you find any 16x16 pieces of the world suddenly resetted (Is that a word?)

I'm new to minecraft and don't mean to get off topic but I'm curious to know what people think about the online authentication.

I know..I know you can still play offline(which is great).

But..if the minecraft authentication servers are offline and you cannot play online that takes half the game away IMO.

I wonder if this was a major release from a big company.

Would people make a big deal of this and scream drm but now feel it's ok because it's from a "little guy".

I'm thinking of purchasing the game is why I ask.

Well a big company should be prepared, I'm not sure that applies to a little guy who's userbase has been growing at a huge rate like Notch's has. And it's not like he's ever let the problems stick for too long, shortly after shit goes wrong he upgrades the servers and whatever else and is currently in the process of switching to dedicated auth servers too (but they won't work until the next version of the client, I think I read).

As for buying the game, at this stage I'm not sure I would feel guilty about pirating it. The "small indie devs need the profit" line doesn't fly in this case.

I totally agree that a good game should be paid for(to support the devs). "Trying it out" is not bad IMO. It just seems to me that people would complain about the authentication server.....if it was a big company. Does an indie get a free pass on things because he is indie?

Not trying to start a cat fight...just wondering how people see it.

Small indie devs bullshit doesn`t fly since he made 10+ million euro with a BETA GAME! It sold 1+ mil copies already which is retarded. And the team still has only 2-3 people? Same old greedy ass bastard but with a more human face.

Greedy? He quit his day-to-day work so that he can put those hours into a game he is creating. This is his work. Of course he should get payed for it. And the fact that he made alot of money does not make him greedy. That probably shows that the game is so good that people want to spend money on it.
I will support indie devs as long as they keep on bringing fresh material to the table since the big co's does not.

It`s creating a very dangerous precedent. Imagine EA selling beta games [they pretty much do but they just call them complete]. DLCs is a lazy way to push an incomplete game and make twice as much money for it, now this? Doesn`t look like I`ll buy a game in the near future if this keeps up.

Since it's beta, I don't feel too bad about it. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought it, but still.
