There are a few automatic backup scripts for Minecraft servers out there. They will all stop the server for the backup and restart it later. Pick one that best fits the server and set it up in a cron job. This will also take care of backups.

I'm trying a server running bukkit as well but the plugins doesn't seem to "work" all the time where one of them is this autorepair plugin that is supposed to repair your equipment using resources in your inventory when they are about to break, but it only seems to work every now and then. Also most commands doesn't seem to work, like "setspawn", "set time" and a few other commands.

Have you downloaded the command plugin?
As if right now bukkit doesn't have any of that built in.

In  the old minecraft thread there was someone complaining he couldnt use the things he build in minecraft.

Once I get the new "Permissions" plugin figured out.

New Minecart Mania feature list:
    GoldBlock Boosts carts by 8x, disabled by redstone power.
    GoldOre Boosts carts by 2x, disabled by redstone power.
    SoulSand slows carts to 1/8 speed, disabled by redstone power.
    Gravel slows carts to 1/2 speed, disabled by redstone power.
    Iron Blocks eject passengers/mobs, disabled by redstone power.
    Cloth reverse minecart direction, disabled by redstone power.
    Unpowed Obsidian stops minecarts
    Powered Obsidian Launches stopped minecarts
    Signs with a direction (north, south, east, west) adjacent to obsidian can override the standard NESW direction selection.
    Pressure Plates act as rails
    Minecarts that collide with animals/mobs will kill them

This is actually pretty fun!
There's some latency issues on my side (may come because I use the mac client)

I can start building on a plot of land that nobody has claimed yet, right?
Also, what is the best way to build something? I say something about a cobblestone factory on youtube.

I'm going to start harvesting some purple stone to make a portal.

Just a quick note.

I just changed the RAM amount allocated to Bukkit from 1024 Megs to 512 Megs.

Which resulted in a massive REDUCTION of lag.

Apparently Bukkit works backwards. Holy wierdcrap of win?

Hmm strange it gives me not enough ram error if I try to allocate 512MB for my server, have to use 1024MB for some reason, think I should ignore error and try anyway?
