Okay so I have 3.55 kmeaw and a backup manager, I have copied games to my hdd that I have the origional of and they run fine but how about the games I download off of here? How do I get them on my ps3 hard drive? I can put them on an external hdd or flash drive but I don't know how to transfer the games to ps3 .

Put them on a external hdd in the root of it in a map called GAMEZ then plug the ext. hdd into the ps3 and open one of the managers then you will see the games there, and one of the buttons which i think is the circel in most of the managers which lets you copy your game to either internal or external.

Or you can FTP them onto your ps3 instead, then you have to install for example blackbox ftp 1.2 on your ps3 then start it up and use for example flashfxp on your computer and connect to your ps3.

If you want more help you can whisper me! =)

Multiman has built in FTP, no need for another ftp app if you have multiman

I'm confused. Some guides are so badly written I wouldn't even know where to start.

I own ONE usb flash drive, no external HDD and the HDDs in my PC are running with NTFS, is there a way for me to install that 3.55 firmware and copy games via ethernet or wlan to the internal HDD of my PS3? If so, how? Thanks.

Yes, via FTP.

This link has most of the important files you will need which are mentioned below: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/cfw-km … ack-77294/

1. Format the USB flash drive to FAT32 if it isn't already. If you don't know how to do this, use Google.
2. Place kmeaw's 3.55 custom firmware on your USB drive in the following directory... X:\PS3\UPDATE\ ...note that the file should be named PS3UPDAT.PUP
3. Make sure you already have the official 3.55 firmware installed on your PS3
4. Run the system update on the PS3 and select 'Update via storage media' rather than internet. You will see the custom firmware and will be able to install it now.
5. Once the system reboots you will have a couple of extra options on the 'GAME' menu - the first is to run games that are loaded through the backup managers and the second is to installed 'pkg' (package) files such as homebrew.
6. Download the level 2 patcher and also Multiman. Copy these packages to the root of your USB i.e. don't put them in folders.
7. Under the 'Game' section of your PS3 menu, select the install package option (don't have the exact wording as I'm not near my PS3, sorry)
8. This will load any package files on your USB stick. Install both files.
9. Run the level 2 patch from your list of installed games, and press 'x' when prompted on the black screen to return to the PS3 menu.
10. Run multiman and take note of the IP address
11. Install an FTP program on your PC (I'm using FlashFXP)
12. Connect to the host (IP address shown in multiman) with no need for a username or password.
13. Once connected to the PS3's internal drive, navigate to //dev_hdd0/GAMES/
14. Copy your game folder to this folder and you will have installed the game to your PS3's internal HDD.

This was all written from memory so some small details may be off, but this all worked for me.

edit: I'll also add that hardly any of the backups I had were running when I had no PS3 disc in the PS3. Keep any random game in there so that the backups can run.

multiman does not require a username or password btw.

@zaprct: Oh great, thanks man.

I've got a 20GB version, guess I'll only be able to play one game at a time. Hopefully they will add a way to mount images one day. <- You don't happen to know if it's safe to JB this specific PS3, do you? ;-)

I just done my daughters 120 gb slim, works perfectly with online too

Custom Firmware FTW

edit: Some original Eboots for those who were using modded eboots (like me).

When you run a custom 3.55 firmware you wont need modded eboots and the modded eboots will need to be replaced with the original ones.

Here are a few.

rogero also offers to repair the modified eboots and it has always worked for me.

OK i'm going to try this fairly soon, once i can be arsed

I already have a couple of games installed on the internal hard drive from running 3.41 with a JB capable device. If i update to OFW 3.55 and then install all the CFW stuff will i still have said games installed there, or will they get wiped during the process?

Also does anyone have a link to a tutorial with all the links and stuff needed to get it all updated with CFW etc? Would rather follow a complete n00b guide designed for a blind person to install CFW than trust my own instincts with it

So how easy is the CFW to detect on Sony's end?

Kinda don't want to get myself banned from PSN.

My BR drive is broken too and I read that it should work even with a broken drive. I'm copying Red Dead Redemption to my PS3 right now and will see if it works in about an hour.

Does anyone know if it's possible to connect my PC with the PS3 via wlan without the PS3 being online?

As I mentioned on the previous page, you will most likely have issues with quite a few games if you don't have a game disc in the PS3. Out of about 20 games I tried running without a disc in the PS3, only a handful worked.  Putting a disc in solved these issues (just any random game).

Do you remember which games worked? I hope there will be a way to fix it rather sooner than later.

Saw RDR as a game, heard to the music and all but it didn't start. Gonna try something else soon.

Yeah, your fat32 external will be fine as is and your movies wont be affected.

You will have to make a folder called GAMES or GAMEZ (depending on what backup manager you use) and just pop the games in there.

you might want to put your movies into a folder (you probably have them in a movies folder anyway I would imagine) but I don't even think that would be a problem although that's what I would do.

This is the guide I used, really easy to do and unless something changed since yesterday (just got home and have not had a chance to check) its all still current.

I will check now and update if anything has changed.

edit: in answer to some of the other questions posted by others.

Your game folder on the internal will remain the same however you will have to remove the gamedata and I am pretty sure you lose all your gamesaves also, so that means going to the game data utility on the xmb and deleting game patches and what not for games you have.

The handful of games I tried my gamesaves would not work once I updated to CFW but this may not be the case for all games, maybe worth leaving the saves on and if the game fails to work then its probably the gamesave or the game will say "corrupt gamesave couldn't be loaded" or something like that.

If i remember correctly you can't put files bigger than 4gb on them.
So how do you guys get the ps3 games on the HDD?

And another Q
I have a NTFS HDD
How do i get it back to FAT32 so i can use it on my PS3

yeah the ps3 will only accept fat32 externals, although I have not done this yet I believe there is a method (pretty easy too I think) where a file larger than 4gb (not many games have a single file larger than 4gb btw) will be split into two then put back together once you transfer to your internal ps3 drive because the internal handles large file sizes and is not limited to 4gb.

Your NTFS drive just needs to be formatted to fat32.

Windows disk management wont do this as I don't think it formats anything above 30gb or something to fat32 but you can get free disk manager tools to easily do this.

http://www.partition-tool.com/

I used this and it worked a treat.

thanks 4 the reply
i will try that out to convert my HDD

Alright my BD drive can't read BDs anymore and because of that I wasn't able to start any game while having a BD in the drive, BUT when I put a PS2 disc inside I was able to install and play Vanquish from the PS3 HDD. I'm not sure yet if it works for all the games, but for now it sure looks that way. Maybe someone else had the same problem and can fix it that way.

Uncharted 2 and Red Dead Redemption incoming!

Question for everyone that has the CFW on their ps3

When it asks to update a game, I presume this update comes from the PSN therefore you are connecting to PSN to get it. Is there a way to update it offline. If I load the CFW on my ps3 I dont want it to ever connect to the psn as I dont want them to see my CFW and if and when the ban hammer comes down I will remove all traces of the CFW and load OFW and I should be fine.
