So perhaps no Dongle needed then ?

Might be worth trying this by the weekend then

I wouldnt jump in so soon, there has been no mod for the ps3 for the last 3 years, waiting another 3 weeks is not going to kill me. The scene is just beginning to develop when it comes to ps3 modding. So the more time we give it the better and more reliable it will be. More backup managers, a more stable firmware with more security as I can almost guarantee the first round of CFW users that go on psn are going to get banned later on.

my brother who is quite frankly pretty illiterate when it comes to this type of stuff managed to downgrade his ps3 from 3.50 using the p3go, for this he had to get into recovery mode.

GeoHot and FailOverFlow get served by Sony

PSXscene.com wrote:

Sony has finally decided to play their poker hand today!

Their MIB (lawyers in black suits) have landed, and the target is of course Mr. George Hotz aka "geohot"!

Recently "Geohot" had published the PS3 'root key' on his website, along with various 'signing tools' and samples of possible ways to install and run 'homebrew'

It seems Sony has decided they have had enough of this, and as of Jan. 11, 2011 have filed a lawsuit against Mr. George Hotz, which will be filed under the court docket of 'C 11-00167 JCS'!

We here at PSX-SCENE will be bringing you exclusive daily reports and filings from the Sony's Men-In-Black court case, and unlike Apple it seems Sony will not allow Geohot to walk all over their product by "Jailbreaking" their PS3 Consoles!

The two early court files released by Geohot on his website, show that Sony is also going after the members of Team fail0verflow and are listed as named aka Bushing, Sven, Marcan as defendants!

I've never liked Bushing or Marcan, both are a pair of c*nts who point the finger at piracy but use backup loaders themselves!

Nothing will come of it.

They paid for the hardware and as such I am sure you are allowed to do as you please with it. I feel it will be a big waste of time for Sony and in the end it does not matter as the damage is already done :yes;

Exactl, unlike xbox firmware hacks this isn't intended to pirate games and so is more like iphone jailbraking. As long as sony get laughed out of court then everything will be fine.

It all depends what people are coding on, if it is the leaked Sony tools then it is illegal.

If they are coded using PSLight which is open source and contains no Sony code then they won't have a leg to stand on.

How did you get on with the FW ?

#1368360 by durkgentlee (User) at 2011-01-14 07:11:55 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

What possible good could come from suing these people?

- they won't be rich enough to sue for an amount that would compensate any losses Sony experience

- it won't stop what is now out of the bag

- it won't please shareholders, only actually re-securing (impossible?) the console would do that

- it is incredibly bad publicity for them to be suing kids

On the plus side;

- it might deter others?

I can't think of any other good reasons

do you need a special dongle? or any usb key will do I am on firmware 3.55

#1368452 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-14 16:04:57 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

you need a jailbreak dongle, loads to choose from.

I got the p3go, works very well.

I think you can downgrade from 3.55 now but not sure how exactly, pretty sure the best firmware at the moment for backups is 3.41 spoofed to 3.50.

Its actually really simple although before I had a dongle in hand to do it I thought it was pretty complicated.

Regarding Turismo.

It must be FTP`d to the internal PS3 hard drive, this is extremely simple.

I assume you already have a jailbreak dongle Waterboy ?

With that in mind I will assume you already have Open Manager or Multiman on your ps3, Turismo I think only works with multiman.

Just load up the latest version of multiman, multiman has built in ftp so when you load it up dont do anything except hit R1 on your pad to enable patch mode.

There will be an IP number at the bottom of the screen, this is the IP you will use in CuteFTP or whatever FTP program you have on your PC.

Simply load up your ftp program, connect to the IP (no pass or additional info needed) you will notice a few different folders but don't be alarmed its actually really simple.

Just go to dev_hdd0 then GAMES and transfer the entire GT5 Atax folder to this directory.

http://hotfile.com/dl/94083000/bc006c3/ … 0.zip.html

Get this ^^ (This is the EU Eboot file)

(Atax may have already applied this modded Eboot file I dunno but I got this one I have linked above)

And put the eboot file in this directory

/dev_hdd0/GAMES/Gran.Turismo.5.ATAX/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/

This can be done before or after the FTP of the game.

If you do it before you FTP it it will be going to

Gran.Turismo.5.ATAX/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/

You will overwrite the old Eboot file, just like applying a crack on a pc game.

Make sure before you hit transfer on your ftp program that Multiman is in patch mode (on the ps3 in the top right corner it should say USB Patch)

Once its done simply press R1 on the joypad twice, the list will refresh and you will see the GT5 game listed and the cover displayed on the right of the screen.

Insert any original PS3 game, then select Gran turismo in the list, hit X, say no when it asks if you want to boot without going to XMB, launch the game from the disk as you would normally with any retail game.

The latest update does not work for Turismo yet so don't update the game, just say no.

If you do update it wont work but you can just remove the update the normal way you would with the game data utility built into the ps3

Gran Turismo should load up fine and work perfectly, mine certainly has.

Also note that I think you have to have Hermes 4b with 3.50 Spoof running but odds are your jailbreak dongle is already loaded up with it, my p3go was shipped with that as its default payload.

These are the instructions I seen and followed when I done it but are a little more vague than my instructions above.

Installation GT5 BCUS98114 proper way per FTP:

1. Clean all GT5 Data if any is left on your PS3
2. Start multiMan 1.12.00 and press R1 into Patch Mode
3. Connect from your PC to the PS3
4. Transfer the Game to your PS3 (in Patch Mode!) including the new EBOOT.BIN
5. After transfer, press R1 to leave Patch Mode
6. Press again R1 to enter Patch Mode (Gamelist rehashes)
7. Insert any BDVD Game
8. Mount the Game
9. Start it from BDVD

any other ways of running GT5 I am unaware of and have not realy checked because mine works just fine as it is.

hope this helps

oh siht dave thats great.. im sorry forgot to add i dont have a dongle.. do i need one?

#1368494 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-14 19:57:59 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I am pretty sure the new custom firmwares dont allow backup managers or stuff like that (yet), only a small handfull of games are able to be ran on 3.55 firmwares and GT5 is not one of them.

You can pick up a dongle very cheap so I would say grab a cheap dongle to keep you going until we eventually get a fully fledged custom firmware (no dongle needed)..

This is the one I got

http://www.dscartshop.com/p3go-gtbreakg … p4433.html

Not the cheapest one but has loads of storage and comes with a switch for the slims.

This one I am pretty sure works well and is used by quite a few people and is very cheap, the large storage of the one I got to be honest will probably not be needed anyway.

http://www.dscartshop.com/ps3usbjailbre … p4438.html

Or the absolute cheapest one you can get however I know nothing about this dongle but I don't see why it would have any issues running the payload you need.

http://www.dscartshop.com/amazebreak-v- … p4507.html

Or as I say just hold on and wait for a proper custom firmware but its anyone's guess how long that will take.

GeoHotz 3.55 fw will allow backups if you play around with the eboot, basically tricking the PS3 into thinking its a PSN game instead of Bluray disc.
