S0NY signed homebrew H4X will be everywhere

PSN will be dead due to cheaters, the Puss3's only use now is a piracy playing homebrew machine

The ps3 has bluetooth, the superb dolphin wii emulator is already being ported so I can see the ps3 now being a fully functioning wii also because it has bluetooth (all you need for wiimotes) and anyone can buy a sensor bar for a few quid and the sensor bar does not need to be connected to anything.

Not that I need a Wii but cool either way

I can actually see us getting psn access but I don't think its guaranteed, even the slighted difference in an eboot file or something might be able to be detected although I don't know nearly enough about the actual coding aspect of what's going on or what detection methods sony may or may not have in place.

Can I upgrade to 3.55? As they got allot of the root keys now, or would it be impossible to play jb games then?

#1366349 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-07 15:27:14 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I wouldnt unless you absolutely must, could be hours, days, weeks or months untill we get a 3.55 "exploit"

Although Geohot says he has a custom homebrew 3.55 almost ready

http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/geohot-f … ing-74836/

But this does not enable backups and I am not sure how easy or hard it is for someone to get his custom firmware and do the stuff needed.

I thought with all these keys released and being able to sign our own software that we could run anything we wanted including games etc.... ?

I am beginning to wonder if this really is the breakthrough we were looking for as nothing has emerged and there is very little news on anything so far :-(

Wouldn't it be freakish if this whole exploitable PS3 signing etc was all some ploy from Sony to sell more PS3's to the potential pirates?

your kidding right ?

http://psx-scene.com/forums/latest-news/

shit loads of stuff happening m8

The thing is though I think most of us are expecting things to be done overnight, custom firmware has been made already, its a short space of time until this inevitably runs backups, we just gotta be a little patient, stuff is happening for sure.

PS3 3.55 Jailbreak Released

PS3 3.55 Jailbreak Released
Posted by greg
Put your hands together … geohot has released a modified PUP that jailbreak’s 3.55 for your homebrew’ing enjoyment; it’s a real small PUP too. And to respect geohot’s wishes we won’t be hosting/mirroring that here — if you click here you’ll find everything you need. Well, not everything — pkg tools will follow. Available however is geohot’s homebrew pkg from this video. So again, click here to download the custom PUP and demo pkg.

Note: Current pkgs (homebrew) will not install/run. Please, be patient. We’ll keep you posted when those pkg tools are available.

Extract and copy the update file — PS3UPDAT.PUP — to /PS3/UPDATE on a USB mass storage device. Connect that device to your PS3 and flash it through Settings -> System Update.

Update: The test.pkg does not install on KaKaRoTo-created PUPs.

Update: I recommend, if you’ve flashed a KaKaRoTo-created CFW, that you restore OFW 3.55 before flashing geohot’s custom PUP. Otherwise the test.pkg won’t work.

Update: Confirmed working: geohot’s 3.55-jb. Be sure to read the user agreement. That’ll answer all your questions. Kudos, geohot! Nice work.

Seems we are getting somewhere now ! Gonna have to start stocking up on games now.....

#1366843 by ConsoleKingDonor (Power User) at 2011-01-09 11:24:55 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

So simply put PS3UPDAT.PUP onto any USB key, flash it through update and we are set?

I haven't kept up to speed on things but how do you play games once the PS3 is running custom firmware?

#1366844 by EarwigDonor (VIP) at 2011-01-09 11:30:59 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I am in the same boat as you, only had my PS3 for a few weeks now so have only been looking at the basics of what is needed.

But AFAIK we don't need special JB dongles anymore

I am also hoping that once the USB stick is removed that the FW returns to standard or something ? Just in case there will be a PSN ban ?

Will still have to wait a few days I think to find out the finer details and wait for feedback on others that have done it

Well if it's anything to go by PSP custom firmware then it should flash the update on the exact machine so it wouldn't revert back to normal firmware without flashing it again. I don't game much any more let alone online so I'm not too worried.

In the mean time I'm the same as you Earwig... Begins to leech PS3 games on Usenet

geohot cfw won't allow backups so its useless, nobody... should put that "jailbreak" firmware on theirs consoles...
wait for the real deal.

As far as I read he never intended to make a jailbreak that would allow backups.

Correct, all you need is a PS3 and update it to 3.55 online as you would normally, then install the CFW through a standard USB memory stick. If you want to have legit firmware, download it and put it back on a USB memory stick and update it back

Once he releases the software to sign homebrew to the CFW then the game loaders etc will get assigned and carried over, will be very little time till it works as we all want it to

Also with regard to PSN, i imagine if they started banning access then someone could probably make an Xlink kai client/engine run on PS3 (they've managed the client at least on 360 now) and people will flock to that. Whereas you can only really use xlink on a jtag 360 there's no restrictions like that i know of for the PS3

Dont get those CFW just yet, im sure the guys releasing all these loaders and stuff gonna come with something much better thats not gonna require dongles anymore its just a matter of waiting, these hacks is only a few weeks old, but as know most games works just fine on 3.41 with patched eboot's just look for them, and remember to manual edit the sfo's also.

Needless to say I didnt think they would be able to hack the ps3 but sure enough they did. Since the games are big Im guessing the best way is to transfer them to a external HDD, connect it to the ps3 and load them from there? After they have come up with a good CFW ofcourse.  Kinda new to this console-hacking stuff

PS3 3.55 CFW WITH PEEK/POKE! - BACKUP MANAGERS CAN NOW WORK!

All we need to do now is hold on a little while for the backup managers to be updated and I suspect this could literally take hours and not even days for this

Great news, once everything is out in the open hopefully some one can post a short tutorial to get everything up and running.

Myself and Earwig wait in anticipation :giggle:

#1367316 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-10 17:55:44 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I will be doing it as soon as its all working so will happily link to or post my own tutorial on it.

What I gather so far is all your going to need is a usb storage device

#1367323 by EarwigDonor (VIP) at 2011-01-10 18:16:39 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Look forward to the tutorial

gonna get myself a USB drive ready for this but unsure which is the best to go for really ?

Is it worth getting a fast drive ? Or a slow one will do just fine ? Or maybe even just use the internal drive ?

#1367327 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-10 18:28:51 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

5200rpm is perfectly fine, my small external (laptop sized drive) works as fast my my 7200rpm full size external.

The internal ps3 drive is also 5200rpm and I doubt getting a faster one will make any difference in this case.

Thing is at the moment its best to go with both internal and external as many games only work internal or external and only a percentage of games work both internal and external.

We don't know if backup managers will ever allow all games to work either internally or externally.

Best bet however who knows what the next generation of backup managers will be capable of is to upgrade the internal ps3 drive (650gb is the max supported at the moment) and have an external.

One good thing is though is that if you go and buy lets say a 1tb external, stick in a 650gb internal is that if we do get all games working internal you can always find a use for your external and lets say for instance we got a situation where all games work externally (not likely tbh) you could take out the 650gb internal put the smaller ps3 drive back (original one) and grab a 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure and have a 650gb pocket drive.

Either way whatever you buy and no matter what happens in terms of storage you will have a use for your drives in one way or another.

edit: Just read we may have to do this in recovery mode !

Not a problem for anyone with a jailbreak device and it is very easy, just posting this as the initial "put on a usb stick and update ps3 like you would with a legit firmware" may be inaccurate.

edit: After more reading if your currently on 3.55 you will have to do it via recovery mode otherwise its going to be done by a usb stick like you would with any legit firmware (the official way).

#1367336 by EarwigDonor (VIP) at 2011-01-10 18:55:13 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I think I am on 3.55 :-(

That makes it harder right ? And means more expense. Maybe worth waiting for another version that does not need a JB dongle and the need for recovery mode ?

I am guessing the dongle allows the PS3 to be placed into Recovery mode ?

#1367339 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-10 19:03:39 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

To be honest m8 you can get a perfectly find JB dongle for less than $10.

Unless I have missed something (possible hehe) the only way I know of to get into recovery mode is using a dongle, my brother who is quite frankly pretty illiterate when it comes to this type of stuff managed to downgrade his ps3 from 3.50 using the p3go, for this he had to get into recovery mode.

I have not needed to do it myself but I say its easy because if he can do it anyone can

If at worst you do have to get a dongle I can recommend a good dirt cheap dongle, were talking about $10 including delivery and they are very easy to use.

edit: apparently this

Install in order:
1) Official 3.55
2) Geohot's Custom 3.55
3) This patched pup file found in this thread
4) Geohot's Custom 3.55 (again)
