CFW out now with Cineva protection removed so if u dont like showtime or rather just play movies straight through XMB it works now.

Recently my Ps3 FAT 60GB stopped reading discs.. I opened it up and cleaned the lens as well.. But no avail.. It doesn't even spin the disc.. reading around, i've found out, that the disc only starts spinning once the lens reads, what kind of a disc it is..

Is it a common problem with the Ps3 lens getting screwed? and needing a change?

Its the launch ps3 i think, with the 4 USB ports, Mem card slots and has a single-eyed lens.. if that matters.. =/ I used to leave a disc inside at ALL times.. could that cause any problems?

Old post but just in case you haven't sorted it, your lens is almost certainly gone. My advice buy whole replacement drive for your model and just fit your blu-ray board. I changed the laser once it's not hard but it's hassle and if it doesn't work you're left wondering if the new laser works or did you do something wrong, plus the whole drive isn't that expensive and damn easy to replace.

Any news on anything about new C/W, seems to be a dead end now when all of the new games are 3.6+.
If I won't be able to play UC3 or MGS PW by then I'll probably have to go legit again.

Downgrade but its a real pain in the ass, every now and then we got info about being closer to hacking newer firmwares but its been a while now but I wouldn't say its never going to happen but cant give no real ETA.

you can update to 3.70 and downgrade to 3.55 if you're on a slim.
Just look around on some sites mentioned in this topic.

Pain in the ass? ohh yeah

I think the vast majority of people will wait for the solder less chip that is apparently in development.

#1428901 by Moosdijk (Power User) at 2011-09-13 21:33:20 (1 year ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

yeah, except that you don't need to solder.

You do need a programmable usb stick though

The whole Jailbreak thing is really. I had a few PS3's with old firmware been tempted but in the end sold 2 and will just sell the rest. It's so not worth the hassle for me, Sony have won!

what? pain in the ass?

Taking the fact we cant play newer games yet I fail to see how it is a pain in the ass.

Its about 3 button presses and a usb stick (not a jailbreak dongle) to update to a CFW and play the entire back catalogue of games and shitloads of homebrew.

Sony have not won, they have simply delayed the inevitable, if you honestly think that we wont be playing newer games on modded 360`s then I am afraid your wrong, if history has taught us anything its if man can make it, man can break it.

Look at the situation, unless I'm missing something if i wanted to play LA Noire or go online I'd have to have 2 Playstations and it's only the fact that I liked repairing them that meant I had a few with old Firmware on them. You still can't downgrade and almost every PS3 I've seen for sale has been upgraded.

Now I see a modchip that only allows you to downgrade to 3.55 and you may have to solder, holy jesus. Taking into account the size of the games too would probably mean I need a new HDD too, unless you can play them off a NAS. I seriously couldn't be bothered Sony have successfully put me off.

You can play LA Noire on a hacked PS3 with 3.55 CFW.

"Developer deank is back with another update to his famous multifunctional tool for the PS3,
releasing multiMAN v2.07.01. Version 2.07.00 was released with a bug, which was quickly
fixed with this current release, and what a release it is! He has added Lv1 and Lv2 patches,
as well as the ability to backup blu ray and dvd media, and even psx and ps2 discs thanks
to the works of graf_chokolo and the SACD-Ripper people."

Does "ability to backup blu ray and dvd media, and even psx and ps2 discs" mean that ones you backed up PS2 game it can be played also on nonbackup comp. PS3?

What were your procedure to unjailbreak safely? I would like to keep the legit game saves. I might do this soon as well.

Lucky you! Yes, you can jailbreak it! No point for me to write a new tutorial, I'll just link you to one great and easy-to-follow one. http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=26677 . PS3Hax is probably the best place to find Homebrew and news otherwise too. If you have any problems, you'll definitely find an answer there but the folks here can probably also help you. Good luck mate!

I've never really had luck with splitting files and then trying to put them back together.. I would suggest that you transfer the game to the internal HDD with Blackbox FTP http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=561 with that I mean that you move the files over with via FTP (I personally use FlashFXP on my computer and Blackbox on my PS3). That way you'll be able to move the file over without breaking it apart.
