Ok I have read all this thread and I am going to ask an see I got a full understanding of this from you?

I am on 3.21 firmware on a slim ps3 model

1: format a usb stick to fat32
2: create the folders \PS3\UPDATE
3: copy the firmware 355 OFW PS3UPDAT into the update folder.
4: then remove the stick and replace ofw with cfw in UPDATE folder, install again
4: copy the pkg files onto the memory stick
5: go to system update on your ps3's xmb. select install from storage media. press install.
6: After the ps3 restarts, you should see install package file and app_home/PS3_GAME/ on the xmb. go to install package file and add the pkg files.

1) Which .pkg files are absolutely needed to play my backups since it seems that Gaia has some of them built in already?

2) Do I have it right and also should I use the Gaia 2.06 or the newest version which I belive is 2.07?

3) I also got Multiman v1.16.08 which I assume is the best version?

4) Can someone recommend a free app to hash check the Firmware files so I can make sure I have the right ones?

Cheers
DK1

do this until #5

The files linked are all fine and good to go in that thread, you may not even have to install the official 3.55 before the custom one but to be safe I would just follow the instructions in that thread.

Once you have the custom firmware on you will have the install package files option, just drop the multiMAN .pkg file onto the root of a fat32 storage device, plug it in and install.

Get the latest version of multiMAN, its the best, period.

http://www.ps3hax.net/2011/04/multiman- … -released/

This link also has the BDEMU file you will need to run once after you install multiMAN.

The BDEMU file is installed the exact same way you install multiMAN.

Have fun

btw if your ps3 has an active internet connection (PSN not required) you can update multiMAN when an update is available via the program itself, multiMAN also has showtime media player integrated (plays 1080p .mkv perfectly).

Thanks dave73 for the help and I did see that link you posted and I am in the process of getting the luisgarciaCFWPack at the moment.

Also cheers for the second link since I see that the full version of Multimanger comes with covers already included which is a nice touch.

I have Kmeaws CFW and it works a treat but as the guy who made that tutorial has switched to the one your getting I would say its probably an improved version.

Yeah multiMAN is awesome, not a single valid reason to use any other manager as far as I know.

edit: my mistake, its still Kmeaws he just renamed the pack, sure it used to be called something else but that's no matter.

I hate to say this as I am a loyal Sony customer, been with them since the days of the PS1.

They have lost me now. Never will I trust them with my information again. As soon as sign in is available, i'm changing my password, deleting any sensitive information, and ***IF*** I ever purchase anything from them online, it will be with a voucher, which is a pain in the ass and will definitely make me spend less.

Also, I fully plan on taking any and all action I can against Sony Corp. should my information be used for nefarious activities.

Not cool bro.

Well just got this email.

Quote:

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

1)     Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2)     Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3)     Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility.  If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking.  When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password.  Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience.  Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority.  Please contact us at www.eu.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Teams

:wow:

Superb !

We also have a 3.60 game working on 3.55 however its almost certainly a one off as the update patch for Brink was compiled with the 3.55 keys and makes the game playable, doubt it will happen again but yet another major fuck up by Sony, how the fantards can still think Sony are godlike is beyond me, they are so fucking incompetent they deserve to crash and burn, we gamers wouldn't lose out on anything significant if you ask me.

Its not even as if their TV's, Camera`s etc etc are the best either.

I am really enjoying the drama

#1401905 by LoveJimbo (Power User) at 2011-05-18 12:10:52 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Hmmm... I'm starting to think about unjailbreaking my PS3 to get use of my lovefilm and playTV again, as well as being able to play the newer games.

Am I right in thinking Sony and the homebrew devs are in a bit of a checkmate with the newer firmware and that none of the devs are seeing much competition in finding a fix?

...just I'd be gutted if I reverted to OFW and found out I wasn't looking in the right places for info and everyone else knew there was a new CFW around the corner

Also - does anyone have experience with reverting to OFW? Should I remove all the ripped games from the hard drive before reverting so I don't end up with a ton of space taken up by files that the OFW can't access to write over?

Thanks for the help!

#1401913 by unknown[9089] at 2011-05-18 12:26:52 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Could be 5 minutes, could be 5 years, as the devs who are/were working on the PS3 craved attention by not being anonymous I think most if not all of them are scared of the Sony law machine.

If your going back to OFW (bear in mind if a new CFW drops the chances are you will not be able to use it on any firmware above 3.55) I would just format the whole system and then update.

Most of the devs/hackers are apparently against piracy and this is one of the excuses they are using however when the very same people criticised Sony for saying 'update to play new games, or don't update to keep linux and lose new games' they are now doing the exact same thing, bunch of hypocrites.

#1401919 by AmbientMike (VIP) at 2011-05-18 12:54:49 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

This isn't going to sound very technical...

As I understand it the leaked keys could exploit some part of the PS3.  As a result of this they moved the code that needs exploiting to another part of the PS3 system that the leaked keys cannot touch.

In order to exploit the 3.60 firmware they will pretty much need to guess the security keys for the sector in 3.60 that needs exploiting.

The chance of this seems miniscule.

That is the lay-mans take on it anyway but Sony do seem to have done the impossible after the leaking of the keys and re-secured the PS3.

I believe all they need is the Level 0 keys and apparently failoverflow and mathiow (spelling ?) have got these or can get them but wont release them because of piracy and they have linux working right now, as I said they are doing the very same thing they criticised Sony for, giving us an ultimatum, keep linux and lose new games or lose linux and keep new games.

When failoverlow said that no matter what Sony do other than a hardware revision they can break it I believe they were right but now seam too scared (understandably to be honest) to release lv0 keys because Sony will come down hard on anyone who does this.

Bit of a shame but certainly not the end of the ps3 hacking/homebrew scene I think.

The hacking of PSN is all about the Jailbreak of Sony.  Sony sued George Hotz for jailbreaking the PS3.  Got a subpoena for all the ip addresses of the people who visited his blog.  Violating the privacy of the masses..  77 million user accounts were taken by Anon.  PSN used no encryption whatsoever.  So all your credit card information had always been transmitted in plain text across the internet.  Enjoy your PS3 guys.

Guys, i got 3.41 version  Fat PS3 60GB with PSgroove and Backup Manager v#1m i wanted to play Uncharted Drakes Fortune wich supports BM#2, what's the easyest way to do it? Just change BM ?

#1406089 by unknown[9089] at 2011-05-31 10:58:54 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Install Kmeaws 3.55 custom firmware, install latest multiman and bdemu and your good to go.

dongles are not needed anymore

http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/cfw-km … ack-77294/

Follow this up to the step where you install Gaia (unless you want to run that backup manager aswel).

Then install this, multiMAN is my choice for best backup manager.

Will it work  on PS3 w/damaged BluRay drive?

#1406417 by unknown[9089] at 2011-06-01 11:42:39 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yes but you will be limited to what games will work as some games wont work without a disk in the drive, this is the same for using a dongle too.

As far as I know the common problems with the bluray drive is the lens and mechanical "tray" issues (not that the ps3 has a tray as such hehe) so odds are it will be powering up but just unable to function, hopefully, at least then he will get to play some games.
