Progress on this seems to have slowed to a crawl :-(

I would say progress is going pretty fast, when we encounter a game that does not work its taking a very short time to rectify this, fully fledged linux support is coming along great too and that is going to be brilliant for many who want to use the ps3 as a proper media device.

I have to say regarding piracy, its working extremely well with the vast majority of games, emulators are coming along nicely too.

I do admit though there does not appear to be much progress but there is if you look closely.

Finally updated my PS3 to 3.55 CFW last night, very easy to do tbh. Got PSN working after a fair bit of messing around as well. Just need to borrow Black Ops off someone (can't find a decent PAL version of it) and then i can destroy all the n00bs at work :giggle:

Edit: I do have a good source for the US version, will this work on a PAL console or is there a patch or something that will make it work?

Bear in mind some games actually don't work from internal and only work external and Vice versa.

However with the games I have tried the majority do work internal but at the moment I would try and get an external drive, even if its just a cheap 100 or so gb drive it may prove to be useful if you end up wanting the games that require external.

I do hope they hurry up and sort something out so all games work internal and/or external.

yap i know, but with only 40gb i have played most of my games from the external, but games like killzone 3 and some others dont want to play from external as you know ;-) and the biggest version out is 41.5gb :-(
and thats the one i wanna plaaay lol

If you don't have a 3D tv then I can confirm the NO3D 20 GB release works perfectly its simply the full game just without all the 3D cut scenes although I have also downloaded the 40GB release too just for when I do buy into 3D.

I dunno why when I first read your post I thought you didn't have an external and were hoping to play everything from internal.

Cheers, Dave. I already knew the PS3 was region free as well so feel pretty daft for asking now lol, just never actually occured to me after seeing "USA" and "PAL" versions

Edit: LOL the PS3 version of this is shit. Every game i've played has lagged at some point or another, and even though it's on the same monitor (although through HDMI instead of VGA) the graphics are terrible and i'm sure the FPS aren't the same either. Really dropped the ball there, i get why so many people at work sold on black ops for the PS3 yet i only know 1 guy who sold the 360 version

Hi guys, i got PS3 with bad Blu Ray drive and going to JB but before it maybe i can fix  drive by myself:
drive takes -ejects disks w/o problem and Blue light indicator is shown but disk doesn't spins.
Does it means(blue light) drive is working but can't spin or it could be drive w/controller board from another PS3 (bought it like this) ?
I have doubt orig. owner installed BR drive from another PS3 to sell it.

Fuck PSN new version that does not transmit console ID.

Installation

   1. Install dev_blind.pkg and OpenPS3FTP on your PS3 (using FTP, external USB or what else)
   2. Launch dev_blind and make it mount the flash
   3. Open OpenPS3FTP
   4. Connect via FTP to PS3 (using username root and password openbox)
   5. Go to /dev_blind/data/cert
   6. Rename CA27.cer to CA27.cer.bak
   7. Put my CA27.cer as /dev_blind/data/cert/CA27.cer
   8. Set the PS3’s PRIMARY and SECONDARY DNS server to your PC’s IP address
   9. Reboot your PS3
  10. Start f**kPSN-v0.6.exe
  11. Enjoy with PSN

Not tried this myself and don't feel the need to be honest but I have a few friends who say this works very well.

Yes, apparently the PSN store works just fine but you have to understand all I can give you is second hand information as I have not personally tested it.

If I was to do this this is what I would do.

Create a brand new PSN user account (not sure if this even matters but I would do it) via PC.

Set up fuckPSN etc etc

Buy pre paid PSN store cards (I wouldn't suggest paying for DLC with your debit/credit card for obvious reasons) and buy whatever DLC I wanted.

If I only wanted DLC access and didn't care for online play I would not use fuckPSN again until I absolutely needed it.

I would say no if you plan on modding it as we don't have a 3.56 firmware or "hack" yet, could be any moment, could be weeks, could be months could be never (although I highly doubt it will be never) but we can play any game and have a seemingly reliable way of getting games that require new firmwares to work on old firmwares, been a while now since we have been modding the games to work and its proving to be extremely reliable.

From what I gather though even when we do get a new 3.56 CFW its going to be extremely difficult for those on official 3.56 to install it, its the reason so many people have just stuck with 3.55 (nothing at all does not work with 3.55 at the moment).

Meh I used my credit card, they cant do anything but ban me which i think they have done. Lucky to get my 6.99.Anyways I wanted Dead Money but i have the wrong version of New Vegas for my country guess ill have to make a US account to try, but i got a NFS:HP DLC and it is not working, might be the same country issue.
PSN works though, can play NHL again!!

1. When i download for example a game from TB, and the extracted folder name is BC000SSFS, can i change it to for example Killzone 2 or do i have to have that name on it?,

2. And when are we gone get those ps3 games that we download on cd.

1.Yes you can rename it.

2. ??? You mean burning to disc?
after reading it again you mean on TB? Well we used to have quite a bit of games on the ps3 section
however it's up to the uploader to upload releases. You have to find the older games elsewhere.

Why on gods green earth would you want to sit for ages burning Killzone onto about 23 billion cd`s ?

About 60 CD`s for Killzone or something ? :lol:

Even with DVD5 it would be about 10 disks or thereabouts.

Assuming your on about burning to bluray then I don't see much point when you can store them easily and much cheaper on hard drives.

I for one do not want to be having to burn my ps3 games to expensive media that tends to get scratched, lost and borrowed.

The games I truly like (LBP2 I downloaded then bought last week) and want to archive I buy.

Hey, I had a console with the exact same problem. Opened it up and tried to fix it but ended up destroying it even more. Your laser lens is probably finished and it can't be fixed without buying a new. After my attempts to fix the blu-ray drive, the console basically froze, so that I couldn't install any homebrew etc. I fought with it for days until I realized that I could take the whole drive out and only leave the small circuit board that connects the drive to the rest of the PS3.

Now I can play some games, basically any game that you have yourself and can backup (or can backup from a friend) will work. So in other words, the eboot has to be original and the whole game has to be a straight rip without any modifications, otherwise it won't work without a disc in the drive..

Replacing the laser is pretty easy, I've done it once but now that you can pretty much buy whole drives on ebay for not much more money so that's the option I went with on my other PS3 and you just swap in your own blu-ray board and problem solved.
