Hey everyone.

I've been using my own PS3 with a CFW for a while now and everything's working like a charm. A couple of days ago I tried to get my friends console to run kmeaw also. Everything went fine, firmware installed, all the necessary pkgs worked fine. We then tried to fix the broken bluray drive in his console. We ****ed it totally up and it ended up being worse than before. But even after installing it back, and trying it out everything worked well on the CFW side.

Yesterday I tried to get back to the console, installed the newest multiMAN etc. but surprisingly enough nothing would run. No one had done anything with the console since weekend when we powered it down and gave up. So I went on to install the OFW again and the install kmeaw and all the rest normally and nothing is happening! I tried to remove the bluray, made everything even worse, the PS3 won't do any system updates without the bluray drive being connected.

So I've done all the cleansing that there is available in service mode and even ran the 4 hours total format through the XMB. And installed all again. And nothing. I even changed the hard drive of the console from a 40gig to a 60gig. All the pkgs install totally normally, no problems there but when I try to run any one of them, the system just enters a black screen, no way out from there other than hard reset. I've tried restarting the console in between, uninstalling the pkgs, installing them again etc. Nothing seems to work.

The console is a 40gig CECHG04. The weird thing is that everything used to work (just games not loading because bluray was broken to begin with) and now nothing!

Do you guys have any ideas? Please help, I've been at this for like 6-8hrs now. :/

PS: I'm using all the same files that work perfectly on my own 60gig PS3! So: kmeaw CFW, lv2v6, multiMAN 1.15 and I've tried running BlackBox FTP and Comgenies Awesome Filemanager too. All end up in the same black screen.

Dave: themes press shift+start to get to the file manager, then its under the 2. To last bar at the top or the last one, under there it would say themes, click and you will see them:-) clicking on the .msi file to use the theme

I don't seem to catch any breaks with this
Downloaded Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Extracted it. Copied via FTP to hdd0/gamez.
Game found in both multiMAN and Gaia, but when i try to run the game, the PS3 just reboots back to XMB.
Only difference is multiMAN asks "are you sure you want to run the game without quitting XMB? Some games will not allow this" or something like that. Choosing yes or no makes no difference, result is the same.

check this, said it before that I am not sure how updated this list is but for me its given me a good idea if or how a game should work.

I even sorted it into the specific N for Ninja category for ya hehe

http://www.psjcl.com/gamelist-N

One thing I know though is that not all games work, the vast majority, probably 95% by my last guestimate work fine but some simply refuse to work, such as Iron Man 2 game just will not work no matter what.

I get the impression Ninja Gaiden should work though.

But we have to realise its not an "exact science" yet so some games will simply not work.

Good luck either way, hopefully you can sort it out

Ok, I solved this problem by myself, just writing it up here, if someone else ends up being in the same situation and is as WTF as I was. The problem was the bluray drive that I broke. I took the drive out but left the circuit board that connects the drive to the rest of the ps intact. Now I can install everything, everything runs smoothly etc. I even can load some games (at least Assassins Creed II so far).

Now I have a problem with Fifa 11 that is working on my other PS3 without a disc. On this one with the broken bluray it freezes up in the "loading trophies" screen and automatically restarts the computer after about 10 seconds. Any ideas on how to fix this?

"delete install data first . Update throws error 80029567" doesn't make any sense to me lol what install data?

EDIT: I assume you just press the X button when you got the game selected? There's no more hocus pocus to starting the game? What's all this "run the game without quitting XMB" stuff multiMAN is throwing at me?

i got my 3.55 CFW installed, was kind of disappointed that i couldnt play divx/xvid movies in the multiman , i have heard of plenty of people with non jailbroken ps3s playing divx but that isnt the case with mine, I also watch videos on my ps3 where i do not have access to my home computer so the 'media server' is kind of a moot point, so my question is... what programs do you guys like for your JB ps3? besides multiman and the ftp software what else do you guys do with a jb ps3??

@dave73: Every game I tried so far worked. Vanquish, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls. As long as all the games I want to play work I'm fine.

With the new 3.55 custom firmwares. Black screens are a problem for downloaded games because many contain modified EBOOTs and PARAMs to work with the dongles. You'll need ORIGINAL EBOOTs AND PARAMs for games to run. ORIGINAL, as in, directly off the RETAIL DISC.

Any problems for me with games were because of the Modified Files or bad File/Folder Permissions. Finding original files and using the Permission Fix fixed those problems.

My PS3 is kmeaw 3.55 CFW and GAIA Manager v2.07. And that's all. Loading games with GAME DISC in, and DIRECT BOOT disabled.

Multiman and Rogero have many extra features, which can make it confusing for some. GAIA is straight forward, has FTP, Runs & Creates backups. Thats all you really need.

Also, DIRECT BOOTS, and DISCLESS MODE are not stable with a lot of games. So, best way to load games is to Select the game, which puts you back in XMB, and Load the game with a GAME DISC in.

I tried this, but when I have returned to XMB the game isn't there? Where exactly do i find it after Gaia returns me to XMB?

I'm waiting for the dust to settle, and expanded media playback features. Essentially, what the PS3 should have been all along- with the addition of free games.

It will be where it would for a regular game. You'll need a GAME DISC in. And XMB will show the game you selected in place of the game you have in the PS3.

I use 3.55, so not sure if everything works the same. Assuming that it does, I'd say you can. On the external drive, make a folder named "GAMES" or "GAMEZ", depending on the BACKUP MANAGER you're using. Then put your downloaded game into that folder.

Here's the expected Directory structure: for example (BLUS12345) is your downloaded game folder

X:\GAMES\BLUS12345
X:\GAMES\BLUS12345\PS3_GAMES
X:\GAMES\BLUS12345\PS3_CONTENT
X:\GAMES\BLUS12345\PS3_UPDATE

Inside "BLUS12345" there should always be the folder "PS3_GAME" and the file "PS3_DISC.SFB".
Depending on the game, there's "PS3_CONTENT" and "PS3_UPDATE". I usually remove those to save space, they're not necessary.

PS3_UPDATE = Firmware included to update your PS3 incase it's not already on the newest version
PS3_CONTENT = Usually trailers and behind the scenes videos of the games.

It will be where it would for a regular game. You'll need a GAME DISC in. And XMB will show the game you selected in place of the game you have in the PS3.

That's the thing. It doesn't here It just shows GT5 (which is the original disc, not the game i'm attempting to load)

EDIT: It's the same thing with both Gaia and multiMAN. Running 3.55 CFW by kae-something. Even tried the lv2 v6 patcher without any luck.

There's so many things that could be wrong. From a bad firmware flash to a bad GAME download. Too many variables to be able to pinpoint with the information you provided. Only thing I can think of is, doing a permission fix if you haven't already. There are different permission fixes for the different firmwares, make sure you get the one catered to your firmware. Do this after you've got your game on the PS3. Also use the newest lv2 patch before you do the fix, which is v8 right now.

You can also back up your own game to troubleshoot the problem. Choose a small one so it'll be fast. Then pop in that GT5 and try to load the game you just backed up. That way you know if games are the problem or not.

Last thing you could do is just start fresh. Flash it back to 3.55 OFW then to Kmeaw CFW. Goodluck.

You don't need to use lv2 patch anymore because syscall36 is being implemented into existing backup managers, Its also the same with permission fix.

True, but it is recommended by the developers to run a lv2 patch first before using the permission fix. Not sure why, but i always follow developers suggestions to make sure everything works the first time.

1. Fresh boot
2. lv2 patch
3. permission fix

EDIT: "If your having trouble with black screens and freezes, make sure to run Lv2 v6 then run fix permissions found below." That's a quote from the latest GAIA release.

latest multiMAN has built in permission fix. Using it solved my problem
Wish somebody had told me sooner to press R1 for permissions
