no problem to update your game via internets.. no idea if  the JB games will ask to be updated at all.. have not tried any one out on-line yet

If the updates were available to be downloaded somewhere on the internet that would be a great option. But as far as I know they are only downloadable via the psn, and i dont want my console to connect to psn with CFW

edit:  To the person above any usb will work as long as you format FAT32

There is a update client for game patachs now available so you can download any game patch and apply it whenever. I've use it and it works great. It creates a folder called PS£ updates just put the pkg on a usb, put usb in PS£ then click on install packages.

Excellent this is what I was looking for. Did it work with GT5 ? Might just load the CFW on my ps3 this weekend.

Ohhh ohhh  3.56 is out, I might wait a little longer before loading CFW lets see how this plays out.

This is for people who want to stay with 3.55 CFW and bypass the Firmware updates.

Edit your Network Settings to use "67.202.81.137" for your DNS.

You will not be bothered with the update, still be able Login to PSN and play your games Online.

no worries, they cracked it already :-)

yep, already cracked, should see a release fairly soon.

and you do not need to be connected to psn to receive updates, never have and never will.

There is a way of bypassing the 3.56 patch by simple doing this

Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings > OK > Custom > You Choose > Manual Settings > Auto > Auto > Do Not Set > Manual > Primary DNS = 67.202.81.137 Secondary DNS = 67.202.81.137 > Automatic > Do Not Use > Enable > X

many people have reported this method does work, i havent tried it personally.

there is also a video for the less technical people

is it ok to hack it, what happens when new games come out? how will you play those?

#1372834 by EarwigDonor (VIP) at 2011-01-29 11:33:27 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I think you need the latest updates to connect to PSN right ?

Went to play GT5 for the first time in a few weeks last night and was forced to update to be able to play the seasonal sections (They are the only things with decent money) so I had no option really...

Is this going to be a constant thing ? Having to update and wait for new CFW every week ?

Sony release 3.55, its cracked for a week and then Sony release 3.56, it's cracked for a week, Sony release 3.57 etc..... ? :-(

What we need is an all in one system that will sit on the PS3 somewhere and when an update is out, it will download, patch as CFW and then install

#1372843 by unknown[9089] at 2011-01-29 12:08:24 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Sony will always be releasing updates, not every week though.

Its always going to be a cat and mouse game, those who have any intention of hacking the ps3 should not update.

No games require 3.56 at the moment (offline) so no need to update, just stick with 3.55 CFW until the inevitable 3.56 CFW is out, really shouldn't be long.

#1372857 by Alibaba86 (Power User) at 2011-01-29 12:48:38 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

My brother is playing modern warefare 2 online on his JB ps3, though that game is original, i havent tested the PSN myself at all thinking of it! But the 3.56 is just a FW update sony released to be an ass, just like the 3.42!

But as Dave said they will keep on releasing updates some will actually do something other will just be an "update"
The 3.56 is already cracked and new CFW will be out!

Your idea yeah i that would have been nice, but you then will need to whait for them to crack it again, so you will be offline for a while, tough the multiMAN BM can update itself true internetz:-) so its not impossible!

Would have been neat if they managed to make like a multiboot or something.. Boot CFW for pirated and homebrew, and boot regular for online (original games)

Place them on the internal HDD using a FTP

#1372938 by Alibaba86 (Power User) at 2011-01-29 19:37:59 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Just buy the hard drive, stick it in and the ps3 will format it to the correct file format (not fat32 btw).

Grab a 5400 rpm laptop/notebook drive, stick it in, ps3 will detect it and tell you it needs formatted etc etc, it will format it for ya, job done.

No point at all getting a faster hard drive either, just get a 5400 as getting a faster one is a complete waste of money.

Edit: ohh yeah, your limited to 650GB I think so again, getting a larger drive would also be a waste of time although its possible we might have this limitation removed in future custom firmware updates but no one could say for certain if this is going to happen or not.

http://ps3hacks.com/ps3splitter-1-1-4-0 … 32-drives/

Never bothered with any of this myself though, always thought it was just for putting a game on your fat32 drive and then transferring to the internal drive at which point a backup manager would then re join the split files.

I didn't think you could actually play games with split files directly from external.
