Agree with most, solid but not great finale.
Well, now when its about a year until next episodes I will probobly jump on the books since I want more GOT.
But in truth I will probobly end up reading it to were we are now in the series. Dont want to spoil April 2014

I don't like what they've done with Daenerys.  She went from "let's take back the throne" to "let's free slaves".  I understand she needs the city for boats and stuff but they seem to be focusing on other stuff rather than her actual goal.

Plus it feels like it came out of nowhere.  Since when is she a female Abraham Lincoln, anyway?  They're trying really hard to make us like her character, I guess.

It's not really new, she really identifies with slaves because she was basically her brothers slave in the beginning

Why does it seem like every season is simply setting up something big for the following season that never seems to happen?

Why do you assume they're setting it up for NEXT season?  They're actually setting things up for sometime down the road...

It's one of those shows where they keep promising something amazing will happen and then it never does.  Or something happens that you don't expect.

Reminds me of Lost.  And pretty much every other successful TV show.  It's how they keep you watching.

Read this a few hours ago on reddit, im going to spoiler tag it all since it has stuff from the books (only about the scene that was shown in the season finale),  It doesnt spoil anything thats going to happen in the future of the show, its just lines from the book from Davos and Stannis and a pretty good viewpoint on the whole scene.

I didn't really expect the scene with Stannis, Davos, and Melisandre talking about Gendry and going north this season because it happens so late in the books. To me, that scene was either supposed to be THE moment that show-watchers realize why many book-readers love Stannis so much, or it was supposed to have been a cliff-hanger that would lead to that revelation next season. Instead, we get neither, and the scene is subtly changed so that it takes an entirely different direction.

In the books, Davos reminds Stannis of his duty to the realm:

"I know that a king protects his people, or he is no king at all."

With Stannis reflecting on it later:

"Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne." Stannis pointed north. "There is where I'll find the enemy I was born to fight."

But in the show, we get Stannis sentencing Davos to death, and only changing his mind because Melisandre tells him to. Instead of getting the king who cared, we get someone who comes off like he doesn't actually know what he's doing and in the end only does whatever Melisandre wants him to do.

Show-Stannis always acted a little strangely and distinctly different from the book version, but after this it feels like D&D are rewriting Stannis to be completely different because of how they felt about him.

edited out some bits that might spoil. link post on reddit.

Well kind of like Ned Stark or Davos (there`s only right or wrong and he`s only doing what is right) only multiply by 10.

Moggg's quote pretty much summed it up.

Quote:

and only changing his mind because Melisandre tells him to. Instead of getting the king who cared, we get someone who comes off like he doesn't actually know what he's doing and in the end only does whatever Melisandre wants him to do.

He comes across as an ill-tempered clueless puppet, with Melisandre pulling the strings.

Not only that but they change his personality. He`s describe as "a serious, stubborn, unforgiving man with an inflexible sense of duty and justice. He neither dissembles nor flatters. He is an accomplished commander, sailor, and warrior, although his personality gets in his way to being a great leader as well. While he is respected and feared he has never been loved or had the affection of nobles or small-folk."

...and they make him look like a horny goat.

Yeah, it's a shame. I really like Stephen Dillane as Stannis, too bad the writers gave him shit to work with.

....well at least Davos is ok , for now , lets hope they don`t change him too ..because Liam Cunningham is doing a great job.

I thought she did, or did she miss his femoral artery, it went in deep, so he is prolly dead, plus the other wounds draining him from blood

then again, maybe magic saves him

how come Snow on horse came in so long after the fat guy ? the fat guy spent a day talking to the kid, plus they only walked

She could have killed him with one shot.  She wasn't trying to kill him.

Anyways, what I've always found interesting is that episode 9 IS the season finale.  Episode 10 is just a hour long teaser trailer.

Episode 10 wrapped a number of subplots from this season and opened new ones for the new season or seasons to come. That has been the purpose of every GoT finale

So just me that thinks snow is quite an interesting character. Can you imagine his rage when he hears about ned stark, rob stark and even catelyn? Or what happened to the lil' starks.

I reckon his role will advance in s4, or atleast I hope so. Now when that old man is dead, will snow lead the wall?

I guess I'm one of the few who agrees. The Red Wedding was just the peak, but the entire season was well worth the watch. I'm so glad I had no time to watch these past few weeks, and had a 3-episode run yesterday. T'was grand. :smirk:
