as someone who HATES reading books (havent even read the harry potter books) not only did I read all the books within months, I'm now re-reading them (thats how intricate and complex his work is)

you definitely wont regret reading the books if you have the time -- all the wtf moments in the show are definately bigger wtf's when you read them.. and youll still enjoy the epic "blackwater" episodes as much if not more.

Patiently waiting for qbert to bring havoc to the thread for even spelling the word "book"....

Oh and also, doesn't make any fucking sense at all that the White Walker would stop, look at Sam and then just pass on..... Shit is what it was....

so was the design of the white walkers changed from season 1 to season 2?

White Walkers in season 1 were like a brownish color. I'm guessing they put in a bit more funds into special effects for the ending scene of season 2.

My problem is there is this ocd that a whole lot of people here have where they constantly drop hints to future storylines to reinforce their weekly "ive read the books" statement. VBG finally gave in and made a separate thread for them yet they still come in here because in their minds they cant impress anyone in that thread with their "accomplishment" of reading the books.

Can someone explain to me what happened to Winterfell without spoiling from the books? Why did they burn it if their were 500 men loyal to the stark siegeing the place vs. 20 guys that surrendered and left in exchanged for Theon.

Actually I felt it made a lot of sense, it made them look more intelligent, these aren't mindless zombies

Well, the producers really need to improve on their story telling now that all the characters are in different places and the story's become more fragmentet.

Also, kind of underwhelmed by the size of Winterfell. Are they going to shoot every scene at the same few square meters of a courtyard?

they showed how big it was in the final scene..plus you do realize that the godswood (where the heart tree is, you know the one Ned prayed to and where Maester Luwin died) is also inside of Winterfell right?

No area really looks big in this series due to budget reasons (except for beyond the wall). I mean, Harrenhal is supposed to be a fucking massive castle even three times as big as the whole of Winterfell but they completely failed in making it look like that large. I'm disappointed considering that a five second CGI glimpse would've been enough to show its size.

They spent the whole cgi budget on 10 seconds of baby dragon footage

I don't quite get why the castle is considered such a great honour to receive from the King, I mean yeah, it has lands and incomes etc. But its a fucking shit tip...

As you say, it's the land that comes with it that makes it valuable. But the castle was magnificent before Aegon decided to fuck it up.

I did see, however does that crappy CGI fram justify them using the same part of the same square (and the godswood..) for every scene? I don't think they've managed to portray Winterfell as a mighty castle, more like someone's back yard.

Slightly disappointed by the second season, but perhaps that's just unrealistic expectations and the residual effects of the excitement of how they actually managed to do a proper fantasy show based on the series in the first season and judging it with some bias because of that.

Not that it's been bad just not as good as I thought it would be. Probably something to do with how more and more fragmented the storyline was. A minor gripe was the special effects, the dragons and the bearded ice ghoul dude looked a bit off... particularly after how great the ships going nuclear looked.

From the wiki:

http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Harrenhal

Quote:

Harrenhal is a great castle constructed before the War of Conquest, located in the Riverlands, on the north shore of the Gods Eye lake. It is the largest castle in the Seven Kingdoms. Since the War of Conquest, however, it has become a dark and ruinous place.

its funny how a clash of kings was "too big to put into 10 episodes", yet the writers write all this extra almost irrelevant stuff for so many episodes... kinda contradictory

really looking forward to interviews or Q&As with D&D to get more insight.

For the most part it didnt seem like everything was tiny though..

I thought the dragons wouldve grown a little bit, and in the last episode Summer and Shaggydog looked small and husky-like again, which was weird since we had seen Ghost in episode 3(?) and he was HUGE.. so I didnt really understand that

IMO ,until now, the series fail to show how strong is the bond(connection) between Stark kids and their dire-wolfs.

I don't think it needs to go into it at great detail. We know that they were reared from pups. The bond is self explanatory.

It's more than that, especially with some of them. Bran for example has a stronger bond and can see through the eyes of his warg.
