Kinda obvious Davos didn't die, but still spoiler

I doubt Matthos died either. Probably severely burned, but not dead and still as eager to fight for the one true God. As it should be for the night is dark and full of terrors.

If he is dead
wink, wink
suppose Davos is either going to turn even more bitter and pour his anger on Melisandra or try and seek help from her first or something. Either way I hope we are going to hear more about Dog and Theon Greyjoy. The two tragic villains of the show. And of course Stannis shouldn't die being a badass.

I am kind of with VBG.  I watch the show right now for Tyrion and Bronn.  All the other characters have not been as interesting this season..

...they are not real villains, 100% bad guys. Both of them are marked by traumas suffered in childhood. From all the characters we met in this two seasons(or two books) real bad or 100% evil are Joffrey and Dogs big brother ser Gregor Clegane aka "The Mountain".VBG is right if you read the books you`ll have a better understanding of the events and the characters.I know you have read Tolstoy ....so GRRM should be a walk in a park for you.Others guys(like qbert95 :-P) should wait for the comic books versions.

I'm familiar with GRRMs approach to character alignments and how he stays clear of the Tolkiensque bad/good guys. It's supposed to be more shakespearean and is so in the show and Shakespeare had 'tragic villians'

edit: my favorite of what I understand as tragic villain of the show would be Theon. But how else would you understand a character?

I don't have time to read those books at the moment :/

I actually find it more difficult to read GRRM than Tolstoy, mostly because GRRM isn't a particularly good writer which makes his prose tedious and boring at times.

Looks like Meera and Jojen didn't get axed after all. Finale will also be 10 minutes longer than normal.

Good call imo. Imo they've had trouble introducing all the new characters as is, and the first part of the 3rd book doesn't include that many new characters.

I wont call him boring or not a good writer. He`s dark and cynical.Others books (novels or short novels) of him like "Sandkings" or ''Tuf Voyaging" are brilliant written. But ,yes I admit that "A song of ice and fire" is a bit ...how shell I say?..Hard to follow? It`s like a giant maze ,or like a huge spider net.Lots of characters ...lots of "new characters".Lots of places....lots of "new places".Lots of events which are connected with things form the past time...past time which is not clearly explain. But it`s an unfinished work and we must wait for the seven book to be written maybe then all the "fog" will be lifted and the story will clarify.
Overall "A song of ice and fire" it`s a very ambitious and original work.A "realistic" heroic fantasy.

...Speaking about the fact that  GRRM isn't a particularly good writer ...from the comments here  I see we all agree that "Blackwater" was, until now, the best from the series.Guess who was the writer for this episode?

It doesn't have to do with story being dark and cynical or hard to follow, it's about alot of parts being boring and tedious. With that said I'm not someone who craves action at every page, I'm just saying that GRRM doesn't have the gift of turning mundane things into good prose. The world he has created is pretty spectacular though.

If you like dark novels you should read Blood Meridian, if you haven't already.

The problem I have with what you're saying is you basically stating his work is tedious and boring and thus he is a bad writer, but what exactly is it that makes him a bad writer and what is so boring about how he writes?

Just would like some constructive arguments

To be fair I should correct myself a bit. I meant to say that GRRM isn't as good of a writer as Tolstoy, not that GRRM is a bad writer. Multitasking isn't my thing. My point is that litterature by a nobel laureate doesn't necessarily mean it's more difficult to read.

But OK, my criticism against GRRM, without spoiling anything: He fails at making the minor characters in the later books interesting. Almost every chapter begins with a summary of what's happened since the character's last chapter. That is followed by text that doesn't let the reader get a deeper knowledge of the character or push the plot forward, but is just a report of some mundane event. Then the chapter ends with a cliffhanger. He could've easily left 20 % of books 4 and 5 out.

I was already sort of spoiled during season 1 because of youtube comments etc.
I keep thinking with every episode that features Theon that I've seen "that event which is going to spell doom for someone" by Theon's hands, but I guess it is not over
. Still it has become clear he is a tragic villain over season 2 of course. But is failing at whatever he does, not accepted by his father, his kinsmen and so on.. lost like Rodrick said. Gotta love those characters.

yeah a lot of this stuff is way off topic, can probably discuss how good or bad GRRM is as a writer in the books thread.

anyway! Cant wait for the new episode!

Also, no matter how well any actor does, or how much of a favorite he is -- if its their time to die, its their time to die!

Sundays episode should be good, if nothing else we'll get to see Jorah scream "KHALEEEESII"

What I loved most was the face of Tyrion after Sansa tells him she'll pray for him "as much as for king Joffrey"

The ensuing dialog with Bronn is great of course. And I'm not saying that only to point out it wasn't in the books as a mean to underline that I have, indeed, read the books.

Though I did read the books.

Ser Mandon pierced his skull and brain. The little guy is dead. Deal with it.

na, he sliced his cheek open a bit
the dwarf will live if no infection, deal with it :p

He sliced from the top left of his forehead over his nose, down to his right cheek. He's not going to die..though he could very well lose his nose.

hmm the 720p on my 63" is bad then

looked like it was just a sliced on the cheek and and scratch on the forehead
