Time for a post a la books vs the series....

I don't remember Daenaerns Targehrhergn beeing so foolish/retarded, i mean...when she went all woman on that fat merchants ass....don't remeber her acting that way at all.
I recall her beeing pretty clever and likable, now she's just...bleh...I remeber there beeing less of  "the fucking throne is mine and i will take it and there will be blhuuuud!"-talk.

It's gonna be intresting to see how this whole Jon Snow - Ygritte thing is going to turn out, pretty big change they did from the books. Guess they had their reasons for changing it.

Daenearnrnsns Targehrhians was like 14 in the book, and was the most naive of all the PoV characters(apart from Sansa ofc), this is just where her stupidness begins, carries on for a while unfortunately...

As long as the Jon-Ygritte situation leads up to *that part* im cool with the changes

Yeah, but still i recall her beeing less PMS:ish
Don't remeber it too well though. It was quite a while ago since i read the 2nd book.

Yeah, me too. Reading the books i got the feel that there could have been some cool stuff happening between them. Thumbs up there i guess.

How far into the books are you? Because ADWD feels more like PMS.

At the end of the 2nd book. Didn't want to finish it cus somehow i though that would spoil the 2nd season.

Book spoiler!

Speaking of the books....didn't they find a whole city in the dessert before they went to quarth?

The series is starting to take way to much liberties in changing the story for my liking! Season 1 was magical, now I find that in every episode there is something that bothers me that  is changed or slightly altered..

I agree that season 2 is quite different from the book but I like it. Why does it bother you when you see the changes? If you want an exact replica of the books why don't you just read the books again?

I mean, they're removing the stuff that works great in books but would suck in TV-show. The same story can't work in two different mediums like these.

Yeah, this is a big let down for me. I was really looking forward to that.
IMO that was one of the coolest moments in the 2nd book.
Maybe they messed with the timeline of the book, when things happen etc.
Cus it seems like a pretty important event in the story.

So far the changes are ok, gonna wait and see until the end of the season until i start nagging.

I'm quite happy with the pace of the show at the minute. Keeps it intriguing. And what's with everyone talking about the books, oh in the books this, and in the books that.

Movies and TV section...not books. As far as I've read, the show is deviating from the books so as to keep it a mystery what will happen, so quit saying what happens in the Jon Snow bastard books.

If Rickon and Bran are really dead...I want to see Robb's reaction.

Although part of me thinks they are just the two orphan boys sent to that farm.

As for Jon Snow...he knows nothing!

And yes. Danny Tag is getting very tedious...faiier and bluhd!!! yahda yahda yahda DRAGONS!

I thought it was a way to slow ep. Now they will have to try to fit in a lot of things in the last eps... They could have cut the Jon part alot this time...

I don't mind the TV show deviating from the books as long as  George R R Martin dictates it.

I really enjoyed the last episode. I thought the Jaime scenes were really good. I am always 100% immersed when I watch this show. As others have said the time absolutely flies by.

I thought the Jon Snow scenes were a bit poor. Ygritte is not how I imagines her at all... too much of a slag :p

normally I wouldn't whine, but u read the book guys always seem to end your weekly declarations with a "if you think ___ is ___ now just wait and see _______" spoiler just to once again prove to everyone else that you have indeed read the book

After this season ends if I start reading the books starting with "A Storm of Swords", would I be able to follow most of what's going on?

#1476214 by EQDonor (Power User) at 2012-05-15 06:37:50 (1 year ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

yes, but having a quick(reallly quick) flick through A Clash of Kings wouldn't hurt either.

I'd actually go ahead and reply with "no".

The books have far more intertwined stories, and so many minor plots/characters that dont appear in the TV show, I'd start with Clash of Kings if you really dont want to read AGOT.

Thanks, that's what I was worried about so I think I will start with Clash of Kings.

The reason why I'm a bit impatient is because I have been reading certain things about some of the characters in Season 2 on a "spoilers allowed" forum and am blown away at what happens down the track.
I'm not sure if they are talking 1, 2 or 3 books ahead though.

Go from the first book IMO. There are lots of flash backs and stuff that might be important to the series as a whole.

I'd say you should skim through book 1 and 2 before going into 3..

what I actually did was skipped book 1 and started from 2.. am almost finished with the 5th one

while a lot of the micro plot is retained in the show, theres a TON of backstory / lore / flashbacks / details in the books that lead to lots of interesting speculation/theories about whats to come in the future -- and you might have missed out some clues from book1 and 2 if you skip them

I myself intend on skimming over book1 after I'm done with 5 to get those details in

Loved this last weeks episode -- haters can hate about how nothing actually happened but this was one of my favourite episodes.. the Arya and Tywin scenes are just so entertaining I could watch them for hours!

From everyone now, they are the most fun, i agree. Tyrion is so serious now he fell behind a bit. That guy that is killing people for her, is he part of some Dark Brotherhood like the one in Skyrim? I mean, he is skilled as fuck.

@elrey (nothing major)

Some magical uberassassin person acting as part of some larger group of assassins. Check the book wiki for more info, don't recall what the article was called, but I know the assassin has his own page in the book wiki.
