Is this worth watching?  Only Tv shows I tend to watch are Dr Who, Voyager.  I watched Walking Dead and loved it and was also a massive fan of Heroes (bastards !!!).

Is this like Lord of the Rings ?  I do like that stuff.  If its good ill snatch the HD stuff and catch up

It's more like a piece of LOTR, a spoonful of Rome, half a cup of The Tudors, shaken, not stirred.

So, for the guys that have read the books, are the events in 'sync' with the book?

And most of all, as we're closing to the season finale, does it seem like S2 will be still made out of the first book?

With all the things that's been happening and all that build up, it either ends with a big ass cliffhanger or just rushes to an end. How did this go in the books?

DOnt want to hear specifics though!

Its been a while since i read them, but its very in 'snyc' with what i remember from the books.
By the looks of it S2 will be made of the second book.
If i remember the ending correctly you'll see the story stop right after an epic moment. It wont be like "someone does something and.......SEE YOU IN THE NEXT BOOK". It was more like "OMG THAT WAS AWSOME!!, i can't wait to see what happens in the next one"
They might opt to change that for the tv show though.

Yep, since taking a peak at the Wiki for this show after a few episodes, I realized then that I shouldn't get too attached to any of the characters because they were doomed.

Ned Stark brought with him his personal guard (the people who were killed) and the skinny pimp with the goatee (Petyr) gave Ned stark the city guard. Joffrey was in charge of the guards standing in front and next to him, as well as the guy with the disfigured face, Then Petyr the pimp double crossed Ned Stark and ordered the City guard to Ned's personal guard and I assume take him as a prisoner. That's where the episode ended

The guards Ned brought besides his own household guards were the Goldcloaks. They are basically guards for hire. They mainhold the peace in kings landing, Ned hoped having them would be enuff to hold off geoffrey. But the goldcloaks heed to the one who pays them, so as i interpret it Petyr was paid more by the lannisters.

When he was young Petyr was in love with Ned Stark wife....so he has a grudge on Ned.Also Petyr was the man who send the assassin to kill Ned son Bran and then lye and blame Tyrion Lannister.

Littlefinger won the dagger in a game from Tyrion which was given to the assassin to be used to frame Tyrion Lannister, since littlefinger points out that it was Tyrions dagger that was used by the assassin.

Are u sure? I thought Littlefinger lost the dagger to Tyrion. Btw, why did Littlefinger gave order to kill Bran? What could he possibly gain? I've watch the episodes again but can't find any of this. How did u guys came to this conclusion?

It`s from the books. You have a better perspective if you read the books. So far the series is in "sync" with the first book, but in the book the "plot" is much better explain.

could we limit ourselves to spoilers from the show in the thread about the show please?...

It's got spoiler tags and since books are relevant to the story I don't see a problem with it. If you were obsessed about spoilers you shouldn't read them.

Edit: all the things written above were EASILY found or assumed from the show so far.

That would be very thoughtful. Even Martin asked not to talk about the books on his Blog to ensure that the TV audience is safe from spoilers. It is possible to spoil the entire next three seasons with a small comment, so please be careful.

Btw. I read the books twice and listened to the audiobooks. This TV show is the best adaptation of a novel I know of.
It is almost as synced as it can be in 7 Eps so far. A lot of scenes are 100% "booklike". And the cast is very fitting. So far only the Renly actor doesn't fit as the rest and I considered Syirio Forel way older, white-haired and lean (maybe I got that wrong).

The bad thing is, although I know exactly what will happen next I suffer greatly on these spoilers too

Stick them with the pointy end!

#1406213 by CrazyGorila (Power User) at 2011-05-31 17:51:44 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Martin said that he doesnt want spoilers on his blog as it doesnt have any spoiler tags.
So spoilers would be in plain sight in normal reply's, which would make them hard to avoid. If you cant restrain yourself from reading the spoilers, ohhh well you got only yourself to blame.

Yea I accidently was reading a wiki for the characters and came across that last week...for those who haven't read the books DO NOT read that spoiler

I do have a suggestion...if you're going to post a spoiler from the books that the show hasn't covered yet can you please point it out before the spoiler tag...as in something like:

the following was from the book...

[insert spoiler from book]

Sure no problem with that.
Although that was the only spoiler where you really had to read the books to know.
I haven't checked all the spoilers though. Still i think you could assume the information from the other spoilers just by watching the show. Although i wont lie, knowing the story from the books is a big advantage when watching the show.

Although I agree that the books give a much better perspective of stories, places and intrigues, I think that the TV show gives you a quicker glimpse of the plot. The books are darker and let you guessing and thinking for a longer time.
