I hadn't flown much heli's before, so the mcpx v2 was a bit of a beast.
The msr-x was a perfect starter though, and after about a week I got decent control of the very basic maneuvers on both.

I'm surprised at how much of a beating both of them are able to take. So unless he's disciplined and take it step by step, I'd suggest going for the msr-x first as it's much easier to tame, and then proceed to the mcpx v2.
