Physics guy is not on top of anything, its horizontal, and second it requires a consistent term for pure throughout each of the fields, compatible, comparable, etc... it might be the mathematician who is the "purest", but a philosopher drew that

Nah, a philosopher would have put himself miles beyond a mathematician, as logic is a subject of philosophy, not necessarily maths, and logic is at the base of all mathematics.

I don't like the term that xkcd's author uses but there is a consistent term for what he means by "pureness". Basically, you can describe sociology by using psychology but it's not as effective because you get an extreme amount of variables. The same can be said about psychology since it's applied biology, and of course biology is applied chemistry and so on until you reach mathematics. You can theoretically describe sociology using mathematics applied on the physical world (physics). The reason xkcd's author makes the physicist look arrogant is because physics pertains to everything in our universe and thus physicists assume that theirs is the ultimate paradigm but mathematics encompasses everything that can exist including physics.

This does not demonstrate the values of these fields, just what level their paradigm exists at.

Are you implying that philosophers are more logical than mathematicians? There is a reason physics and mathematics were called natural philosophy. Philosophy was divided into two teams, the ones that could deliver provable results and the ones that couldn't. The team that could went on to be called science.

Philosophy that isn't classified as mathematics is NEVER even a shred more logical than the most illogical mathematical theorem (Like any of them are illogical). There is a reason why logic is a mathematical course in most, if not all, universities. Because mathematical is confirmed to be 100% logic whilst philosophy is just speculation on what is logical and what isn't

I think it's more interesting to note that they study different "levels" of our world. For example, physics (in its "purest" form) is the study of the subatomic world, while chemistry is the study of the molecular world, biology is the study of the cellular/multicellular world and so on and so forth.
Of course biology depends on chemistry which relies on physics, but we'll never be able to predict biological phenomena with our knowledge of physics, because there's way too much shit going on at that "level" of the world.
